Lake Ontario tagged Atlantic salmon
Get data on Lake Ontario tagged Atlantic salmon recaptures. This dataset represents tagged adult Atlantic salmon that were released and then recaptured by anglers. These fish were used as brood stock (breeding) in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry’s fish culture program. All fish were tagged with a streamer tag near the dorsal fin. Each tag has a unique number and a phone number so anglers can call and let the ministry know about their catch. The data includes: * tagging date * recapture date * tag number/colour * location released * location recaptured * days since released * distance travelled
Contaminants in fish database
The contaminants in fish database is a compilation of contaminant data analysed from fish tissue at the Fresh Water Institute from 1970 to 2005. Data include lab number, region, analysis, organs, species, lake, form (whole fish, headon dressed, headless dressed), weight, and length and contaminant concentrations. Total mercury was the predominant contaminant measured. Results were expressed as ppm or ppb based on the parameter analyzed. Concentrations are expressed based on wet weight.
Great Lakes Fish Biodiversity Database
The Great Lakes Fish Biodiversity Science Database is a compilation of fish community and habitat data from DFO Science surveys, primarily related to freshwater fishes of conservation concern in the Great Lakes basin. Data include: sampling site location, date, fish species and counts, and associated habitat information. Project-specific details including purpose/objectives and study methodology are often reported in the DFO Canadian data report of fisheries and aquatic sciences series.
Fish stocking data for recreational purposes
Fish stocking data for recreational fishing purposes. Contains: * stocking data for the past 10 years for species where the purpose of the stocking event was to promote recreational fishing. This is a subset of data from the fish stocking information system. This data can also be obtained through the [Fish ON-Line application](http://www.ontario.ca/fishonline). For information on where stocking occurs for research or rehabilitation purposes, contact a local Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry district office. Herring Biosample Database
Herring biological (fish and sample) data as part of Herring Stock Assessment database
Recovered Historic Catch and Weight – Length Data of Nearshore Fish Populations on Sturgeon and Roberts Banks, Fraser River Estuary, British Columbia
A goal of the Government of Canada’s Coastal Environmental Baseline Program (CEBP) is to amalgamate historic environmental data from high vessel traffic areas. An extensive DFO biological sampling program was conducted from 1980 to 1981 on Sturgeon and Roberts banks located on the outer Fraser River estuary, BC, Canada. This report collates and simplifies three data sets: water quality and nearshore fish catch previously published as DFO Data Report 340 (Conlin et al.1982), and un- published weight-length (W-L) data for two locations on Sturgeon Bank (Iona and Steveston) and near Westshore Terminals (Coal Port) on Roberts Bank. W-L data were reconstructed from archived computer printouts using Optical Character Recognition methods. Analyses of water quality data indicate that the two banks provided different fish habitats with Sturgeon Bank having a greater freshwater influence. Although Iona area water quality was exposed to sewage outfall from a nearby sewage treatment plant, it appears that fish communities were not different from the other Sturgeon Bank area (Steveston). The fish communities were found to be different between the two banks with Roberts Bank having greater overall abundance and diversity. Interestingly, of the seven fish species used for condition factor analyses, five were found to have lower Relative Condition Factors in the Roberts Bank sampling area.

PARAMETERS COLLECTED:Species counts (ecological); points (spatial)USE LIMITATION:To ensure scientific integrity and appropriate use of the data, we would encourage you to contact the data custodian.
Fish Holding Areas - Coastal Resource Information Management System (CRIMS)
Fish holding areas (i.e. areas of concentration of salmon and herring, both adult and juvenile) in coastal British Columbia. Attribute information includes overall relative importance, species of salmon and other fish observed at various times throughout the year as well as information on spawning activity and larvae. CRIMS is a legacy dataset of BC coastal resource data that was acquired in a systematic and synoptic manner from 1979 and was intermittently updated throughout the years. Resource information was collected in nine study areas using a peer-reviewed provincial Resource Information Standards Committee consisting of DFO Fishery Officers, First Nations, and other subject matter experts. There are currently no plans to update this legacy data.
Recreational Shark Fishing Tournament Landings Data and Canadian Dart Tag Database
These data consist of the Recreational Shark Fishing Tournament landings database (1993-2022 inclusive) and the Canadian Dart tag database (2006 onwards; updated annually). Both were collected by the Maritimes Science Division of Fisheries and Oceans Canada. The landings records include biological sampling from 4266 animals and the dart tag records include 4138 tagging and 97 recapture events to date. Potential users should consult Bowlby et al. (2022) for the description, management history, and technical details pertaining to these data. Information is focused on Blue Sharks because they were the primary species captured at recreational tournaments.Cite this data as: Bowlby, H., Joyce, W. Fish Habitat Assessment Output from Bay of Quinte Suitability Modelling: High Water Level (75.4m ASL) - Spawning Habitat - High Vegetation Association Species (All Temperature Windows)
Fish Habitat Assessment Output: 1 of 16High Water Level (75.4m ASL) - Spawning Habitat - High Vegetation Association Species (All Temperature Windows)Habitat suitability was assessed for the Bay of Quinte Area of Concern, at a 3 m grid resolution, using the Habitat Ecosystem Assessment Tool (HEAT), temperature algorithms, vegetation models, and water level input. Habitat classifications were based on three variables: depth (elevation), vegetation, and substrate; and modified by temperature suitabilities. The final suitability maps were based on documented habitat and temperature associations for the fish in the area. Different life stages (spawning requirements, nursery habitat, adult habitat) were modeled for the years of 1972-2011. Suitability values were scaled from 0 (not suitable) to 1 (highly suitable) and converted to suitability classes of very low, low, medium, and high. The final maps for each guild – life stage combination are maximum suitability values from the 39-year period modelled.
