Terrestrial Ecosystem Information Scanned Map Boundary
STE_SCANNED_MAP_BOUNDARY_SP includes an index of the mapsheet grid location of Soils, Terrain, Ecosystems and related scanned maps (including Agriculture Capability and Climate Capability maps). These maps are intended for on-screen viewing or printing. The majority of the maps have been geo-referenced. Mapping may not cover the whole map grid area. Some maps are interim or draft and may have been superseded. Some files are of related legends and map project text. Associated scanned map boundary attributes describe the project map (project level metadata) and provide a link for downloading the map, plus links to related reports, geo-referenced maps, and GIS digital data available from other sources. ATTENTION - The IMAGE_URL link is only useable by BC government staff. Public users can download the scanned maps by using the ECOCAT_URL link. There is no charge for the scanned map files. Please note that some maps and more recent mapping may also be available in digital GIS format. See - Ecosystem and Terrain Mapping Data Inventory.
Baseline Thematic Mapping Present Land Use Version 1 Spatial Layer
This layer represents Land use polygons as determined by a combination of analytic techniques, mostly using Landsat 5 image mosaics . BTM 1 was done on a federal satellite image base that was only accurate to about 250m. The images were geo-corrected, not ortho-corrected, so there is distortion in areas of high relief. This is not a multipart feature
Maps of biogeochemistry and soil properties for use as indicators of site sensitivity to logging residue harvesting
This publication contains thirteen (13) maps of different biogeochemical and soil properties of forest ecosystems of Canada’s managed forest. A scientific article gives additional details on the methodology: Paré, D., Manka, F., Barrette, J., Augustin, F., Beguin, J. 2021. Indicators of site sensitivity to the removal of forest harvest residues at the sub-continental scale: mapping, comparisons, and challenges. Ecol. Base Hydrography Point Event
The Base Hydrography Point Event layer contains hydrographic point features representing the locations of water or water related features captured through the 1:20000 Provincial Base Mapping Project, the 1:50000 Resource Access Mapping Program, the Alberta Vegetation Inventory Program and the Federal Government National Topographic Data Base 1:50000 mapping.
Mapped Floodplains in BC (Historical) - Mapsheets Index with Links to Reports in EcoCat
Index outlining historical floodplain mapping areas. Contains links to Floodplain Mapping Reports stored in Ecological Reports Catalogue (EcoCat)
Non-TRIM Hydrography View
Province-wide spatial view showing licensed water sources (streams and lakes), under the Water Act, (current and historical), not captured (displayed) on TRIM base mapping (or Freshwater Atlas base mapping).
Ground ice map of Canada - relict ice
The mapping depicts the relative abundance of relict (buried glacier) ice preserved in upper permafrost at a national scale. The mapping is updated and based on modelling by O'Neill et al. (2019) (https://doi.org/10.5194/tc-13-753-2019). The mapping offers an improved depiction of ground ice in Canada at a broad scale, incorporating current knowledge on the associations between geological and environmental conditions and ground ice type and abundance. It provides a foundation for hypothesis testing related to broad-scale controls on ground ice formation, preservation, and melt.
Database of areas at risk of flooding (BDZI)
Data on flood zones include mapping carried out as part of the mapping program of the Canada-Quebec Convention from 1976 to 2001, the Program for the determination of flood ratings from 2001 to 2004 (PDCC), as well as the mapping carried out after that date by the Centre d'expertise du Québec (CEH) and its various partners.**This third party metadata element was translated using an automated translation tool (Amazon Translate).**
Ground ice map of Canada - wedge ice
The mapping depicts the relative abundance of wedge ice in upper permafrost at a national scale. The mapping is based on modelling by O'Neill et al.
Wetlands - 10k
CryoGeographic Consulting, in association with Palmer Environmental Consulting Group Inc., provided Yukon Energy, Mines and Resources and Yukon Environment with the results of the mapping and classification of wetlands and adjacent upland habitat in the Indian River valley and its major tributaries. This report and its accompanying map set have been updated to reflect study area expansion and additional field reconnaissance completed in the summer of 2017. Interpretation of shallow water wetlands within disturbed landscapes was completed by Ducks Unlimited Canada and incorporated.Five classes of wetlands are distinguished - bogs, fens, swamps, marshes and shallow water - based on field investigations and interpretation of high-resolution aerial photography and satellite imagery. The accompanying report w it h full metadata can be downloaded from: [https://yukon.ca/en/mapping-and-classifying-wetlands-indian-river-valley-yukon](https://yukon.ca/en/mapping-and-classifying-wetlands-indian-river-valley-yukon)Distributed from [GeoYukon](https://yukon.ca/geoyukon) by the [Government of Yukon](https://yukon.ca/maps) .
