Rock Properties
This compilation sources data primarily from the Yukon Geological Survey’s (YGS) field projects and archival collections, and from the Geological Survey of Canada’s (GSC) Canadian rock physical property database (Enkin, 2014, 2018). The data distribution is far from uniform but covers a range of lithology classes and terranes. The compilation of data from archival samples is ongoing, and the dataset will continue to grow as new samples are collected for YGS projects and pass through the survey’s physical properties lab.The foundation of this dataset originates from samples collected for a mapping project in western Yukon led by Dirk Tempelman-Kluit from 1970 to 1972 (Tempelman-Kluit and Curie, 1978) and subsequently digitized by the Geological Survey of Canada and Mira Geoscience (2014). This dataset alone contributed 1642 records to the compilation. Map unit names from this original dataset were modernized for this compilation to reflect current understanding of Yukon geology.Systematic measurements of magnetic susceptibility and specific gravity have been incorporated into the workflow when archiving rock samples from YGS projects. Additional magnetic susceptibility measurements are also routinely collected in the field by YGS geologists. This will continue to expand the dataset. Rock samples are not collected specifically for the physical properties dataset but are well characterized and have sufficient metadata to be incorporated into the dataset. Samples are not uniform in size or weight. The Yukon Geological Survey’s HS Bostock Core Library houses >10 000 Yukon rock samples from previous and ongoing geological studies. Archived collections provide a great opportunity to further expand the dataset in specific regions or areas lacking representation.Distributed from [GeoYukon](https://yukon.ca/geoyukon) by the [Government of Yukon](https://yukon.ca/maps). Historical trace metals concentrations from sediment samples and suspended particulate matter (SPM) samples, 1976 - 1987
This dataset is a compilation of numerous data files recovered as part of a data request in 2024 from a historical archive of DFO research data. Sediment and Suspended Particulate Matter (SPM) samples were collected over more than a decade as part of Dr. Douglas Loring’s research program while working at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography (BIO). Samples were collected as part of individual and collaborative research projects, and links to the relevant primary science publications and reports are included in the data in an effort to provide context to the data, as well as describe the field and laboratory techniques used to generate the attached data.
Groundwater Samples, Groundwater Geoscience Program
Groundwater samples have been collected in the hydrogeological unit, for various types of analysis. The dataset is not used to represent a particular phenomenon or observation but rather as a utility dataset to add context and reference to groundwater analysis. It represents a general description of the sample site and sample. Sampling methods vary according to the types of analysis.
Assessment Report Geochemistry
The Yukon Geological Survey stores a significant amount of geological information gathered by exploration companies in compliance with the Quartz Mining Act. This information is primarily contained in assessment reports (AR). Since 1920, more than 8000 hardrock assessment reports have been collected, with more than 6000 of these containing geochemical data on surficial samples (e.g., soil, rock, stream sediment, and vegetation). The sheer volume and historical depth of these data provide valuable insight into the mineral potential of the Yukon. Exploration companies rely on data from ARs to search for exploration targets. To aid exploration companies, YGS has developed this database to consolidate geochemical data extracted from assessment reports. This database, the Geochemical Assessment Report Data Extracted database (GARDEd), was created by extracting and compiling data from more than 300 assessment reports. GARDEd was initially populated with data from samples within a 75 km radius of the Casino deposit to evaluate the data extraction procedures and assess the feasibility of the database. Data capture focused on recent ARs because these were available in digital format. The initial release of this database contains approximately 10% of the geochemical data from surface samples within Yukon ARs.YGS encourages users to send feedback to [geology@yukon.ca](mailto:geology@yukon.ca) to assess the usefulness of the dataset and determine how much effort should be invested to capture older, non-digital ARs.Distributed from [GeoYukon](https://mapservices.gov.yk.ca/GeoYukon/) by the [Government of Yukon](https://yukon.ca/) . Naquadat Ground Water Quality Stations
Water wells where ground water quality samples were collected by the Naquadat Program between 1954 and 1980
Water Geochemical Data, Saline Aquifer Project (tabular data, tab delimited format)
In 2010, for the Alberta Geological Survey Saline Aquifer Mapping Project, we collected and analyzed 38 water samples from oil wells producing from geological units, including the Glauconitic, Ostracod, Ellerslie, Banff, Wabamun, Nisku, Leduc and Cooking Lake, within 100 km of Edmonton, Alberta. We analyzed filtered water samples for pH, density and specific conductance. oxygen, hydrogen and strontium isotopes. and dissolved constituents, including sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, barium, strontium, lithium, iron, manganese, chloride, bromide, sulphate, sulphide, silica and inorganic carbon.
Northern Marine Coastal and Ecosystem Studies in the Canadian Beaufort Sea- sediment stable isotopes
This record contains results from stable isotope analysis of sediment samples including δ 13C (‰), δ 15N (‰), total N and total C collected in the Beaufort Sea.
Water Geochemical Data, Saline Aquifer Project, 2011 (tabular data, tab delimited format)
In 2011, for the Alberta Geological Survey Saline Aquifer Mapping Project, we collected and analyzed 40 water samples from oil wells producing from geological units, including the Cardium, Viking, Mannville, Glauconitic, Ellerslie, Nordegg, Banff, Wabamun, Nisku and Leduc, within approximately 200 km of Edmonton, Alberta. We analyzed filtered water samples for pH, density and specific conductance. oxygen, hydrogen and strontium isotopes. and dissolved constituents, including sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, barium, strontium, lithium, chloride, bromide, sulphate, sulphide, silica and inorganic carbon.
Lithogeochemistry Athabasca
This dataset represents lithogeochemistry of Saskatchewan samples. This dataset represents lithogeochemistry of Saskatchewan samples. This dataset represents the exhaustive mapping and sampling program of the Athabasca Group between 1975 and 1981 by the Saskatchewan Geological Survey (SGS), the results of which are contained in Ramaekers (1990). These samples are now stored at the Ministry of Energy and Resources, Subsurface Geological Laboratory in Regina, Saskatchewan. A selection of these samples was chosen to help characterize the background geochemical signature of the Athabasca Group and to identify anomalous regions. A total of 837 samples were chosen. All samples in this data set were processed at the Geoanalytical Laboratories at the Saskatchewan Research Council (SRC) in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, an ISO/IEC 17025:2005 certified facility (i.e., meets the General Requirements for the Competence of Mineral Testing and Calibration Laboratories). Samples were crushed, split, agate ground, and then run with Sandstone Exploration Package ICPMS 1. The package produces three separate analysis types: inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy (ICP MS) partial digestion for trace elements; ICP MS total digestion for trace elements; and ICP–Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP–OES) total digestion for major and minor elements. Details and detection limits are available on the SRC’s website. ICP total digestion: a 0.250 g pulp is gently heated in a mixture of ultrapure HF/HNO3/HClO4until dry and the residue dissolved in dilute ultrapure HNO3; ICP MS total digestion: a 0.250 g pulp is gently heated in a mixture of ultrapure HF/HNO3/HClO4until dry and the residue dissolved in dilute ultrapure HNO3; ICP MS partial digestion: a 2.00 g pulp is digested with 2.25 ml of 8:1 ultrapure HNO3:HCl for 1 hour at 95° C; Detection limits are from the SRC's 2011 Analytical Fee Schedule; null values indicate that elements are below the detection limit. NOTE: Attribute data headings ending with TD indicate Total Digestion, those ending with PD indicate Partial Digestion. Majors oxides are in percent; all other elements are in ppm. **Please Note – All published Saskatchewan Geological Survey datasets, including those available through the Saskatchewan Mining and Petroleum GeoAtlas, are sourced from the Enterprise GIS Data Warehouse. They are therefore identical and share the same refresh schedule.
