NTS Grid 1:20 000
This dataset is produced for the Government of Alberta and is available to the general public. Note that the distribution contact is different for the general public than for Government of Alberta ministries. Please consult the Distribution Information of this metadata for the appropriate contact to acquire this dataset. The National Topographic System of Canada (NTS) is a national mapping reference grid defined by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) that is based on degrees of latitude and longitude. Starting at the Prime Meridian and at the Equator, the 1:50 000 grid is formed by intersecting every 1/8 degree of the meridians with every 1/4 degrees of parallels. It is also true that the standard 1:20 000 NTS block is broken down into 4 1:20 000 blocks that are labelled by quadrant. Each polygon in the grid is designated with a two digit number. a single letter. two additional numbers and a two letter quadrant value (Example 83H08NE). The 1:20 000 NTS grid was developed to support the Provincial Digital Base Mapping Project and is not part of the formal NRCan NTS program. The province of Alberta is covered by 2838 complete and 269 partially complete 1:20 000 NTS blocks.
Canadian Weather Year for Energy Calculation (CWEC)
644 datasets of Typical Meteorological Years (TMY) created by joining twelve Typical Meteorological Months selected from a database of up to 20 years of CWEEDS hourly data. The months are chosen by statistically comparing individual monthly means with long-term monthly means for daily total global solar irradiance, mean, minimum and maximum dry bulb temperature, mean, minimum and maximum dew point temperature, and mean and maximum wind speed. These hourly datasets are used by the engineering and scientific community mainly as inputs for solar system design and analysis and building energy systems analysis tools. This dataset has been updated with the most recent changes made in March 2023. The solar values in these files are based on 0.1° x 0.1° (11 km x 11 km grid) for all of Canada. Refer to Data Resources below for additional information on the TMY file format.

Biomass Agriculture Inventory 1-in-20 Probability
The “Biomass Agriculture Inventory 1-in-20 Probability” dataset is a table that contains the estimated 1-in-20 year low for agricultural residue yield and crop production for each Biomass Report Framework. It provides the fifth percentile values for the years 1985-2016.The table includes straw or stover information for barley, wheat, flax, oats and corn, and crop information for barley, wheat, flax, oats, corn, canola and soybean.This dataset also includes information about the type of tillage used in the area and demand for straw used for cattle bedding and feed. These values are derived from Statistics Canada data. Additionally, the dataset includes the amount of agricultural residue calculated as necessary to remain on the field to prevent soil degradation. Soil degradation is determined by the type of tillage in use as well as the landscape type of the area.
Pan-Arctic Wetland Inventory Dataset Version 1 (baseline)
This dataset presents the first comprehensive, high-resolution (10-meter) wetland inventory map covering the entire 32.2 million square kilometers of the Pan-Arctic region, of which 14 million square kilometers (43%) is terrestrial and 18.4 million square kilometers (57%) is marine. Generated through advanced Earth Observation and machine learning techniques, the map was produced using multi-year (2020–2022), multi-source satellite imagery—including Sentinel‑1, Sentinel‑2, and ALOS PALSAR‑2—as well as various environmental features such as elevation. Over 1,000 wetland polygons were analyzed using an object-based random forest classification workflow on the Google Earth Engine cloud platform, achieving an average overall classification accuracy of 89%.The mapping extent was defined according to the Arctic Council’s Conservation of Arctic Flora and Fauna (CAFF) boundary, resulting in the identification of 2,947,618 km² of wetlands, representing 20% of the land area within the Pan-Arctic region. This dataset establishes a consistent and authoritative baseline for pan-Arctic wetlands, leveraging the latest advances in Earth Observation, machine learning, and cloud computing. The Canadian Wetland Classification System was used and includes the major wetland classes: bog, fen, marsh, swamp, and water.The overall wetlands coverage by country within the CAFF boundary was: Canada (27%), United States of America (i.e., Alaska 39%), Finland (31%), Iceland (8%), Norway (17%), Sweden (26%), Kingdom of Denmark (i.e., Greenland 1%), and the Russian Federation (21%).Development of this product was undertaken by Natural Resource Canada's Canada Centre for Mapping and Earth Observation and the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure Division in collaboration with the Arctic Council’s CAFF biodiversity group, CAFF Wetland Experts Group, national organisations mandated to monitor wetlands, and Arctic National Mapping Agencies, and Canadian company C-CORE, integrating ground truth data collected from Alaska, Finland, Sweden, and the Kingdom of Denmark through partner agencies and digital image interpretation. More than 60,000 images (2020-2022), primarily covering summer periods, were processed to ensure robust results.This dataset provides essential baseline information for Earth Observation monitoring of climate change impacts and supports critical environmental surveillance for Arctic and remote northern communities.

Spot Height
This dataset contain the 1:20 000 scale spot height elevation text converted from the Provincial Digital Base Mapping Project. Currently, no spot height information exists for Banff, Jasper and Wood Buffalo National Parks and also for the extreme north east portion of the province.
