Formerly known as the Nova Scotia Sportfish Registry, this dataset is a list of the current record holders for several popular Nova Scotia sportfish. There are both youth and adult, catch and release and catch and keep and smallmouth bass tournament categories.

Get data on fish stocking records from 1900 - 2012. This dataset is the most complete collection of historical fish stocking records available for the time period 1900 to 2012. Locations are indicated based on the information available. If coordinates were not available, the approximate location is indicated using the description associated with the record. Note that effort is not accounted for in this dataset, nor is effort equally distributed throughout the area captured. Data derived from satellite or acoustic tagging are not included in this dataset. Note that not all records are confirmed. DFO Science reviews records and reports and classifies them as either confirmed or unconfirmed, based on the available information (e.g., pictures, videos, descriptions).

The Geological Survey of Canada (Atlantic and Pacific) has collected marine survey field records on marine expeditions for over 50 years. This release makes available the results of an ongoing effort to scan and convert our inventory of analog marine survey field records (seismic, sidescan and sounder) to digital format. These records were scanned at 300 dpi and converted into JPEG2000 format. Typically, each of these files was between 1 to 2 gbyte in size before compression and compressed by a factor of 10:1. Empirical tests with a number of data sets suggest that there is minimal visual distortion of the scanned data at this level of compression. In this KML file, scanned data are available in a reduced-scale thumbnail format and a compressed full-resolution JPEG2000 format.

The daily climate records database, also known as Long Term Climate Extremes (LTCE), was developed to address the fragmentation of climate information due to station changes (opening, closing, relocation, etc.) over time. For approximately 750 locations in Canada, "virtual" climate stations have been developed by joining (threading) climate data for an urban location, from nearby stations to make long-term records. Each long-term record consists of the extremes (record values) of daily maximum/minimum temperatures, total precipitation and snowfall for each day of the year. Many of the longest data sets of extremes date as far back as the 1800s. This data provides the daily extremes of record for Snowfall for each day of the year. Records of marine mammal sightings (N = 5,324) collected by ASOs and submitted to Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) between 1979-2024, across three DFO regions: the Arctic, Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Maritimes. Prior to January 1, 2008, fishing divisions were administrative units to manage, monitor, assess and regulate recreational fisheries. Each zone was based on angler usage and ecological/geographic patterns. Refer to [Fisheries Management Zone for boundaries after 2008](/dataset/fisheries-management-zone).

Fisheries Management Zones have replaced former Fishing Divisions and are the geographic basis for managing, monitoring, assessing and regulating recreational fisheries for a majority of lakes and streams in a zone. Each zone is based on angler usage and ecological/geographic patterns such as climate zones, watersheds and road networks. This product requires the use of geographic information system (GIS) software.

This dataset includes maintenance, quarries, stockpile, borrow , and gravel pits used by Transportation Division. Other pits and quarries not used by Transportation Division are also included.
