Manitoba Forest Inventory – 1960s / Inventaire forestier du Manitoba – années 1960
This dataset represents Manitoba's digital forest inventory for the 1960s. Please note that because of data capture techniques used for this inventory, its base features (e.g., water, roads) may not align with other datasets (e.g., Google Maps, Esri Basemaps)This dataset represents Manitoba's digital forest inventory for the 1960s. It was created from forest inventories captured by photo-interpretation during different time periods in the 1960s. It consists of original inventory polygons without any subsequent modifications, such as disturbance or silvicultural activities. Please note that, because of data capture techniques used for this inventory, its base features (e.g., water, roads) may not align with other datasets (e.g., Google Maps, Esri Basemaps).This dataset covers a large portion of the middle of Manitoba, and is almost exclusively within the Boreal Plains and Boreal Shield ecozones. Forest inventories created in the 1960s used the Forest Resource Inventory (FRI) standards to capture details about the land base relevant to forestry, along with non-forest base features. Data collected in the FRI standard included, among other things, tree species composition, site class (site growing conditions), cutting class (stand maturity, and a proxy for age), crown closure and productivity. Fire Ignition Locations
This is point GIS coverage consisting of either fire ignition locations or centroids of fire polygons where the exact location of fire ignition were unknown for fires within the Yukon, spanning a period from 1946 to present. Although the temporal scale of the coverage goes back to late 1940's, Yukon-wide fire detection capability was not fully developed until the 1960's. In addition to this, access to regular aerial mapping was not readily available until that same time period. As a result many fires in the 40's and 50's were simply not recorded or poorly mapped, particularly in the north. For that reason, care must be taken when drawing conclusions from these data as it relates to the early years. Line P Climatology (1956-2012)
Climatological monthly-mean temperature and salinity data were computed for each of the 27 Line P stations (https://www.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/science/data-donnees/line-p/index-eng.html). For any particular station, data were accepted as belonging to that station if the location was within 10 km of the intended station (or 24km at Ocean Station Papa, P26). Data were binned by month/year over all available data for each station up to and including 2012. Hence the time interval that the mean state was computed from starts between 1956 and 1960 and ends at the end of 2012. Standard deviations were computed for each month independently and at each 5-m depth bin and were estimated as the variability between different years for the month in question.

Fire history
This is a landscape level GIS coverage of large fires within the Yukon, spanning a period from 1946 to present. Original polygon size was limited to 200 hectares, when the first edition of this dataset was completed in 1997. Smaller fires are now being included, especially near communities. It is important to note that in most instances, fire perimeters only were mapped. This means that unburned areas within the perimeter are not accounted for, either in an ecological context or in annual area burned summaries. More recent fires mapped, with the aid of satellite technology may include large unburned patches.Although the temporal scale of the coverage goes back to late 1940's, Yukon-wide fire detection capability was not fully developed until the 1960's. Oil and Gas Seismic Lines
Data for seismic surveys prior to 1999 were obtained from National Energy Board (NEB) as points data (end points and bends) in Excel file format with basic information only. The NEB dataset was not comprehensive. Seismic lines coordinates' data for some of the earliest surveys recorded during 1960s and 1970s were recorded in NAD27 and contained location errors. In addition some data were not converted to NAD83 datum currently in use therefore resulting in even larger error. These Alberta spring locations were digitized from the 1:50 000 Alberta Hydrogeology Information Map Series (48 atlases) by the Alberta Research Council from the 1960s and 1970s. Springs were digitized as part of the digital data capture process.
