Ground Water Aquifers

Some aquifer boundaries stop at the border of BC mapsheet boundaries due to resource or data constraints at the time of mapping.
Water Reserves - Aquifers

Aquifer Vulnerability Index
The Aquifer Vulnerability Index (AVI) is a method of assessing the vulnerability of aquifers to surface contaminants in Alberta. An aquifer is a geological formation that is permeable enough to transmit sufficient quantities of water to possible to support the development of water wells. In the assessment of aquifer vulnerability to potential contamination, the depth to the aquifer and the types of geological materials above them are considered. For example, aquifers closer to the surface overlain with pervious surface materials are more vulnerable to contaminants, as compared to aquifers found deeper and covered with a thick layer of impervious material. The AVI ratings indicate the potential of surficial materials to transmit water withy contaminants to the aquifer over a period of time. This data was created in 2002 using ArcGIS.
Quebec groundwater monitoring network
The Quebec groundwater monitoring network, which has more than 270 observation wells located in all regions of Quebec, aims to collect data to assess the effect of climate change on groundwater levels. Some observation wells were active as early as 1969, but most of the network was developed under the 2006-2012 Climate Change Action Plan and the 2013-2020 Climate Change Action Plan. Each point indicates the location of an observation well. The data collected and the information available are the physical description of the well, the measurements of the water level and temperature presented in tables and graphs, and the results of chemical analysis of the water.
