Trends of surface pressure change based on adjusted and homogenized climate station data
Monthly, seasonal and annual trends of mean hourly sea level and station pressure change (hectopascals) based on homogenized station data (AHCCD) are available. Trends are calculated using the Theil-Sen method using the station’s full period of available data. The availability of surface pressure trends will vary by station; if more than 5 consecutive years are missing data or more than 10% of the data within the time series is missing, a trend was not calculated.
Port of Saint John intertidal water level and temperature (2020-2022)
The Coastal Environmental Baseline Program is a multi-year Fisheries and Oceans Canada initiative designed to work with Indigenous and local communities and other key parties to collect coastal environmental data at six unique sites across Canada, including the Port of Saint John (New Brunswick). The overall purpose of the Program is to collect localized ecological data in these areas to build a better baseline understanding of marine ecological conditions. The Maritimes region has developed a physical oceanography project to align with the interests and data needs of local communities and stakeholders. Starting in 2020, data describing the depth and temperature of tidal flood waters have been collected at a series of intertidal locations in the Port of Saint John vicinity, to characterize high marsh flood tides and water level fluctuations near the Courtenay Bay causeway. Inundation by marine waters in high marsh areas is typically limited to spring tides, while the water level in Courtenay Bay is influenced by anthropogenic infrastructure (e.g. causeway, tide gates). The resulting data can enhance studies ranging from coastal vulnerability and resilience to salt marsh morphodynamics, by quantifying the frequency, amplitude and duration of tidal inundation. Data were collected using Hobo U20-001-02 water level loggers, which were deployed inside stilling wells constructed from 15-inch lengths of perforated ABS pipe (2¼” diameter). The stilling wells were sunk to a depth of 6 inches below ground, with the water level logger suspended inside the well from a bolt near the top. The logger was positioned with a rigid wire such that the measurement volume was equal to ground level, while allowing the logger to be easily removed for downloading and precisely replaced at the measurement location. Loggers were accessed 2-3 times per year to download, and were removed during the winter months. Data have been compensated for changing atmospheric pressure using the Barometric Compensation Tool in HobowarePro (version 3.7.21) and barometric pressure data collected from a dry location during the study period. The resulting water level is reported in meters, and is relative to the elevation of the water level logger (e.g. above ground level).Citation: Port of Saint John intertidal water level and temperature (2020-2022). Homogenized Surface Pressure (AHCCD)
The Homogenized Surface Pressure data consist of monthly, seasonal and annual means of hourly sea level and station pressure (hectopascals) for 626 locations in Canada. Homogenized climate data incorporate adjustments (derived from statistical procedures) to the original station data to account for discontinuities from non-climatic factors, such as instrument changes or station relocation. The time periods of the data vary by location, with the oldest data available from 1953 at some stations to the most recent update in 2014. Data availability over most of the Canadian Arctic is restricted to 1953 to present. The data will continue to be updated every few years (as time permits).
Coastal Environmental Baseline Program (Newfoundland Region), Placentia Bay CTD Moorings
This project was completed by the Coastal Environmental Baseline Program (Coastal and Freshwater Ecology Section) in the Newfoundland and Labrador Science Branch of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO). From 2020-2023, there were semi-annual deployments and retrievals of 3 moored CTDs in the bay. From 2020 to November 2021, moored CTDs collected hourly recordings of conductivity, temperature and pressure. From 2021 through 2023, these CTDs collected year-round, hourly, information on temperature, conductivity, pressure, dissolved oxygen, and chlorophyll-a. Acoustic releases also collected hourly ambient noise (mV) data. This record contains the geographic locations of the sites, and information on the timings and types of data collected at each site.
Indicator of the availability of surface water in current and future climate
This theme represents an indicator of the availability of summer and winter surface water. It combines a sub-indicator of the pressure of water samples from surface water, and a sub-indicator of the severity of low water levels. The indicator is calculated based on the current and future climate.**This third party metadata element was translated using an automated translation tool (Amazon Translate).**
Global Environmental eMuLator
The Global Environmental eMuLator (GEML) is a component of the experimental Global Deterministic Prediction System (GDPS) and is an artificial intelligence (AI)-based weather emulator trained on past atmospheric states. More specifically, this GEML model is based on data compatible with the ¼°, 13-level version of the GraphCast model (Lam et al. 2023) from DeepMind. It was trained and refined by ECCC, using ECMWF's ERA5 data (1979-2016) and operational analyses (2016-2021). The weights have been recalculated and are also available to the public. Forecasts are carried out twice daily, each with a 10-day lead time. It generates the reference large-scale temperature and horizontal wind fields, toward which GDPS's GEM forecasts are spectrally nudged. The geographical coverage is global with a horizontal resolution of 28 km. Data is available on 13 pressure levels, and employs a uniform latitude-longitude grid with 0.25-degree grid resolution. Six atmospheric variables defined on the 13 pressure levels, along with 4 surface variables are available every 6 hours.
Rural Utilities Alberta Low Pressure Gas Distribution
This dataset is provided by the Ministry of Utilities and Affordability, Rural Utilities Branch, and represents rural low-pressure pipelines (less than 700 kPa) and customer meters in Alberta that are under the jurisdiction of the Gas Distribution Act, including Gas Co-operatives, First Nations, Municipalities and Counties, Private Systems, Apex Utilities Inc., and ATCO Gas Inc. The data is based on the annual submissions of construction as-builts to Rural Utilities, Alberta Affordability and Utilities. The geodatabase contains linear pipeline data features and customer meter point features. The pipeline data features contain: Pipe material. Status. Year built, if known, and the name of the natural gas distributor and general contact information for inquiries and requests. The meter attributes include the type of meter and the contact information for each distributor. The Customer meters features contain: Meter Code. Meter Type. and the name of the natural gas distributor and general contact information for inquiries and requests.
