This interactive map is a collaborative project by the Geographical Names Board of Canada, illustrating a curated selection of places in Canada with names that have origins in multiple Indigenous languages. The names selected show the history and evolution of Indigenous place naming in Canada, from derived and inaccurate usage, to names provided by Indigenous organisations. Many Indigenous place names convey stories, knowledge, and descriptions of the land. By celebrating these names through this map, the Geographical Names Board of Canada hopes to increase the awareness of existing Indigenous place names and help promote the revitalization of Indigenous cultures and languages. Many more Indigenous place names exist in Canada and will be added in future releases of this map. The content of this map is a compilation of information obtained from many current and historical sources. Designated gas storage areas are land areas designated by the Ontario Energy Board that contain geological formations used for subsurface storage of natural gas. This product requires the use of geographic information system (GIS) software.

This geospatial dataset contains the geographic boundaries of the 34 Public Health Units (PHUs) in Ontario, based on Statistics Canada’s Health Region Boundary File (2018). A PHU is the area of jurisdiction of a board of health. PHUs in Ontario are defined in Regulation 553 (Revised Regulations of Ontario), pursuant to Health Protection and Promotion Act R.S.O. 1990, Amended to O. Reg. 64/05.

This interactive map commemorates Canada’s participation in armed conflicts at home and abroad by highlighting a sample of the many geographical features and places named for those that served our country. These commemorative geographical names help us remember war casualties, soldiers, sailors, airmen and airwomen, military leaders, and civilians recognized or decorated for outstanding acts of bravery and sacrifice in battle. These names also commemorate notable battles in which Canada participated, and Canadian military units, regiments, squadrons, and ships in which Canadians served. Federal, provincial and territorial members of the Geographical Names Board of Canada provided these commemorative names for the development of the map. Many more commemorative place names exist in Canada, and will be added in future releases of this evergreen interactive map. The National Interest Land Mass (NILM) comprises a set of lands (mainly-NCC owned) considered essential to the functioning and experience of Canada's Capital. The NILM is the dominant tool guiding federal land management and ownership in support of Capital functions. The NILM was approved by Treasury Board in 1998 and the first update was approved in 2001. The 2020 NILM Update is the second update.

This dataset is a collaborative project by Natural Resources Canada and the federal, provincial and territorial members of the Geographical Names Board of Canada, illustrating a curated selection of official geographical names in Canada that have changed over time. The selection comes from the Canadian Geographical Names Database, displaying additional information including the previous name(s) of each feature, the year and the reason why the names changed along with a short history of each name change.
