Rideau Canal Skateway - Ice condition by sectionEach winter, the NCC transforms the historic Rideau Canal into the world’s largest skating rink. The Rideau Canal Skateway winds its way through the heart of the National Capital over a total length of 7.8 km. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Rideau Canal in winter becomes a treasure that is the pride of the National Capital and a signature destination.The skating season typically runs from January to early March, but it is weather-dependent. When open, the Skateway is free and accessible 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.When the Skateway is open, ice conditions are monitored by section twice daily, at approximately 8 am and 4 pm.

In the Capital Urban Lands Plan (2015), Land designations identify the desired uses for federal urban lands in relation to the role they play for the Capital in a given location. The National Interest Land Mass (NILM) comprises a set of lands (mainly-NCC owned) considered essential to the functioning and experience of Canada's Capital. The NILM is the dominant tool guiding federal land management and ownership in support of Capital functions. The NILM was approved by Treasury Board in 1998 and the first update was approved in 2001. The 2020 NILM Update is the second update.

In celebration of the tremendous diversity of tree species that tell the story of our culture and history, the NCC released in September 2020 a compilation of close to 170 remarkable trees across Canada’s Capital region entitled A Living Legacy: Remarkable Trees of Canada’s Capital. An interactive map and downloadable book are available for free on the NCC’s website and will allow the public to discover distinctive features of these trees, revealing a story of the beauty of our natural heritage through the rich diversity of species thriving within Canada’s Capital. A national map of Canadian Fire Behaviour Prediction (FBP) Fuel Types (FT) developed from public data sources. The resolution of the raster grid is 30m, classified from the Spatialized Canadian National Forest Inventory (SCANFI) dataset, ecozones of Canada, and the National Burned Area Composite (NBAC). The purpose of the dataset is to characterize Canadian forests into fuel types for use in Fire Behaviour Prediction calculations as well as for situational awareness of national fire potential.

Being anxious to participate in the adaptation of agricultural businesses in a context of climate change, MAPAQ has commissioned a study to better identify the challenges current and future of water management. The mandate involved drawing up a portrait of needs. water supplies at the regional level of the various users (agricultural and residential sectors, as well as only institutional, commercial and industrial) to understand what uses and users of watermay be the most affected in the future by climate change. The project had also the objective of identifying innovations that would mitigate conflicts of use some water. Beyond data, the project was based on a participatory approach and called on theparticipation of the regional actors concerned. A first phase (RADEAU 1) started in 2016 covers the regions of Montérégie, Estrie, Chaudière-Appalaches, Lanaudière and Center-du-Quebec.
