Point locations of water and weather monitoring stations used by the [Surface Water Monitoring Centre](http://www.ontario.ca/page/surface-water-monitoring-centre) to assess flood and drought conditions across Ontario. Monitoring station types include: * streamflow gauge stations * Environment and Climate Change Canada climate stations * Ministry of Transportation road weather stations * Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) fire weather stations * MNR snow network stations (wildlife) * MNR snow survey stations (weather) * Ontario Power Generation snow survey stations (weather)
Temperature sensor point
Temperature data (typically in time series format) comes from investigations performed by government agencies, geotechnical engineers and consultants, academics, and others to obtain information on the air or ground thermal conditions of a site. Ground temperature investigations generally include the installation of temperature sensors at a variety of depth intervals, and data loggers which record the temperatures at regular time intervals ( e.g., hourly or daily) for varying time periods ranging from one-time or occasional measurements to multi-year monitoring. They also often involve the installation or monitoring of above-ground weather stations. ## Get data on boundaries of local climatic areas used for forest fire weather forecasting. This dataset shows the boundaries of administrative areas used for forest fire weather forecasting. North of the French River, boundaries correspond closely with Environment Canada’s areas for public weather forecasting. South of the French River, 25 Environment Canada areas are combined into six larger areas for provincial forecasting.

Winter surface conditions – Helicopter survey
Mean 2014 to 2023 winter surface conditions in the Estuary and Gulf of St. Lawrence. The survey has been taking place every year in March. Surface conditions are described by temperature, salinity and nutrient concentration (mmol/m3) interpolated on a 10km x 10km grid.PurposeSince many years, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) has been conducting annual surveys, at different periods of the year, in the Estuary and Gulf of St. Lawrence, each having many objectives including assessment of environmental conditions.However, these surveys, carried out on vessels, did not cover the winter period. Since 1996, a regional monitoring program, conducted by Maurice-Lamontagne Institute scientists, is taking place in order to fill this gap. Peak Season Leaf Area Index of Canada from Medium Resolution Satellite Imagery
Leaf area index (LAI) quantified the density of vegetation irrespective of land cover. LAI quantifies the total foliage surface area per groud surface area. LAI has been identified by the Global Climate Observing System as an essential climate variable required for ecosystem,weather and climate modelling and monitoring. This product consists of annual maps of the maximum LAI during a grownig season (June-July-August) at 100m resolution covering Canada's land mass.
Time Series of Leaf Area Index for Reclamation Sites in Alberta 2016-2025
Leaf area index (LAI) quantifies the density of vegetation irrespective of land cover. LAI quantifies the total foliage surface area per groud surface area. LAI has been identified by the Global Climate Observing System as an essential climate variable required for ecosystem,weather and climate modelling and monitoring. This product consists of time series of LAI observed between 2016 and 2025 over reclamation sites in Alberta, Canada May and October. The temporal frequency depends on cloud cover.
Overland Flood Alerts
Current weather induced overland flood alertsThe Hydrologic Forecast Centre (HFC) issues several categories of flood alert throughout the year including riverine flooding due to snowmelt and rainfall, wind and wave induced shoreline flooding and ice pileup, and rainfall induced overland flooding. This layer demonstrates the location and/or extend of current alerts due to rainfall induced overland flooding. The types are defined below:Overland Flood Warning: A severe weather warning that is issued to alert the public that overland flooding is imminent or occurring in the warned area. Overland flooding is a quick onset of flood conditions, usually occurring after heavy rain that may not be linked to a specific waterway or lake. Rainfall intensity and duration, topography, soil conditions and ground cover are factors impacting overland flooding. Overland flooding can also occur because of a sudden release of water held by an ice jam.Overland Flood Watch: A severe weather watch that is issued when conditions are favourable for overland flooding. Normally issued when significant rainfall is expected in locations with saturated soil.
