Great Lakes Fish Biodiversity Database
The Great Lakes Fish Biodiversity Science Database is a compilation of fish community and habitat data from DFO Science surveys, primarily related to freshwater fishes of conservation concern in the Great Lakes basin. Data include: sampling site location, date, fish species and counts, and associated habitat information. Project-specific details including purpose/objectives and study methodology are often reported in the DFO Canadian data report of fisheries and aquatic sciences series.
Fish activity area
The fish activity area data represents the consolidation of two fish data classes collected by the Ministry of Natural Resources. The data estimates locations used by fish for activities such as spawning and nursing young. Locations are represented as polygons. They may be related to a specific species or described more generally. There are additional sensitive features related to provincially tracked species and species at risk that are not available as part of the open data package. Sensitive features are subject to licensing and approvals and may be requested by contacting geospatial@ontario.ca.
Fish stocking data for recreational purposes
Fish stocking data for recreational fishing purposes. Contains: * stocking data for the past 10 years for species where the purpose of the stocking event was to promote recreational fishing. This is a subset of data from the fish stocking information system. This data can also be obtained through the [Fish ON-Line application](http://www.ontario.ca/fishonline). For information on where stocking occurs for research or rehabilitation purposes, contact a local Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry district office. Recovered Historic Catch and Weight – Length Data of Nearshore Fish Populations on Sturgeon and Roberts Banks, Fraser River Estuary, British Columbia
A goal of the Government of Canada’s Coastal Environmental Baseline Program (CEBP) is to amalgamate historic environmental data from high vessel traffic areas. An extensive DFO biological sampling program was conducted from 1980 to 1981 on Sturgeon and Roberts banks located on the outer Fraser River estuary, BC, Canada. This report collates and simplifies three data sets: water quality and nearshore fish catch previously published as DFO Data Report 340 (Conlin et al.1982), and un- published weight-length (W-L) data for two locations on Sturgeon Bank (Iona and Steveston) and near Westshore Terminals (Coal Port) on Roberts Bank. W-L data were reconstructed from archived computer printouts using Optical Character Recognition methods. Analyses of water quality data indicate that the two banks provided different fish habitats with Sturgeon Bank having a greater freshwater influence. Although Iona area water quality was exposed to sewage outfall from a nearby sewage treatment plant, it appears that fish communities were not different from the other Sturgeon Bank area (Steveston). The fish communities were found to be different between the two banks with Roberts Bank having greater overall abundance and diversity. Interestingly, of the seven fish species used for condition factor analyses, five were found to have lower Relative Condition Factors in the Roberts Bank sampling area.
Coastal Environmental Baseline Program (Newfoundland Region), Placentia Bay Nearshore Fish Community Sampling
This project was completed by the Coastal Environmental Baseline Program (Coastal and Freshwater Ecology Section) in the Newfoundland and Labrador Science Branch of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO). The nearshore fish and invertebrate community was sampled annually in Placentia Bay at 14 sites for 5 years (2018 – 2022). The objective of this program was to collect data on juvenile fish (specifically Atlantic cod) communities and habitats within Placentia Bay. The sites and timing (October) were selected based on historical sampling. There were several data types collected during each of these sampling trips. Boat-based beach seining was used to collect data on fish and invertebrate diversity, abundance, distribution, and size. Visual transects were used to identify vegetation and substrate (habitat) types and proportions at seine sites. CTD profiles (temperature, conductivity, depth, and salinity) were obtained using a castaway CTD. Finally, eDNA samples were collected at each site (2018-2021) to obtain complementary information on the presence of juvenile fish and other species present. This record contains the geographic locations of the 14 sites, and information on the timing and type of data collected at each site.

Fish Health Database
The Fish Pathology Program (FPP) located at the Pacific Biological Station in Nanaimo has been assessing the health of aquatic animals since the early 1970’s. Utilizing traditional diagnostic methods, the FPP has supported internal and external clients to provide clinical data and management advice on the health of aquatic animals. The dataset contains information from diagnostic fish health cases coming from the Salmonid Enhancement Program, Research, Public and I&T submissions. Data contained in the database includes pathogen findings from submitted cases from all of the Pacific Region. The publication of The Fish Health Database will comply with public release recommendations documented in recommendation twenty two, made in volume three of the Final Report (October 2012) submitted by the Cohen Commission of Inquiry into the Decline of the Sockeye Salmon in the Fraser River.
Beaufort Sea Marine Fishes Project (BSMFP) 2012 - Fish identification and measurements
Basic biological data for all fish caught during the 2012 BSMFP expedition. Includes identification, weight, length (total, fork, and, standard), liver weight, gonad weight, sex and maturity level.
Ocean Salmon Program - Barkley Sound Juvenile Salmon Study from 1987 to 1994
During the period of 1987 to 1994, Robin J. LeBrasseur and N. Brent Hargreaves lead a juvenile salmon predation research project in Alberni Inlet and Barkley Sound BC. This dataset contains the research survey catch data and individual fish examinations data.
