Extreme Flow Statistics
The flood magnitude statistics can be used for applications such as flood plain delineation and design of hydraulic structures. The drought severity statistics can be used for applications such as water abstraction and effluent dilution.
Database of areas at risk of flooding (BDZI)
Data on flood zones include mapping carried out as part of the mapping program of the Canada-Quebec Convention from 1976 to 2001, the Program for the determination of flood ratings from 2001 to 2004 (PDCC), as well as the mapping carried out after that date by the Centre d'expertise du Québec (CEH) and its various partners.**This third party metadata element was translated using an automated translation tool (Amazon Translate).**
Canada Flood Map Inventory (CFM)
The Canada Flood Map inventory shows areas in Canada where a copy of a flood hazard map has been collected by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). The inventory does not display flood zones or extents, but provides information on how to access these flood hazard maps. Depending on the license and availability status to the public, there may be links for download, along with reference information to the original source and/or data owner. NRCan collaborates with provincial and territorial governments to gather flood hazard maps from provinces, territories, municipalities, and other agencies responsible for flood mapping. The inventory is regularly updated to improve its completeness and accuracy. Disclaimer: The Canada Flood Map (CFM) does not include every flood hazard map in Canada and may be incomplete or contain inaccuracies. It should not be relied upon as the official source of flood mapping information. Furthermore, if a map appears to be missing, this does not necessarily mean that the area has never been mapped. For the official version of a map, updated information, or confirmation of applicable regulations, please contact the local authority responsible for flood mapping.Note: Data and maps in the Inventory can be made available upon request to federal and contributing partners.
Mapped Floodplains in BC (Historical)
Historical floodplain boundaries in BC with a descriptive feature name for each floodplain area (i.e., 200-year floodplain, alluvial fan, or nothing/out-of-floodplain). Digitized from hardcopy 1:5,000 Floodplain Mapsheets for each project area
Flood zones
Areas that may be occasionally flooded.attributs:ID - Unique IdentifierMunicipality - Municipality CodeType - Type of areas according to the recurrence of flooding**This third party metadata element was translated using an automated translation tool (Amazon Translate).**
Red River Flood - 2009
The purpose of this feature layer is to provide the 2009 overland flooding boundary in the Red River Valley. This dataset shows the extent of peak overland flooding in the Red River Valley in 20 09 . Data is based on RADARSAT – 1 satellite imagery. During processing, the raw data set was resampled to 12.5 meter pixel resolution, then classified using PCI Geomatica software which is a specialized software designed to manipulate space born imagery. The final output depicting the flooding boundary is available as a TIFF or Shapefile. Launched in November 1995, RADARSAT-1 was a Canadian-led project which provided useful information to both commercial and scientific users in such fields as disaster management, agriculture, cartography, hydrology, forestry, oceanography, ice studies and coastal monitoring. Equipped with a powerful synthetic aperture radar (SAR) instrument, it acquired images of the Earth day or night, in all weather and through cloud cover, smoke and haze. As of March 2013, the satellite was declared non-operational and is no longer collecting data. Many applications were developed to take advantage of RADARSAT-1 capacity for detecting the presence of water. These included monitoring flooding and the build-up of river ice, and mapping the melting of snow-covered areas. When used for flood monitoring, RADARSAT-1 data helped assess the impact of flooding, predicted the extent and duration of floodwaters, analyzed the environmental impact of water diversion projects, and developed flood mitigation measures. Red River Flood - 1997
The purpose of this feature layer is to provide the 1997 overland flooding boundary in the Red River Valley. This dataset shows the extent of peak overland flooding in the Red River Valley in 1997 . Mapped Floodplains in BC (Historical) - Study Area Limits
Lines indicating the limits of the historical floodplain boundary study areas in BC. Digitized from hardcopy 1:5,000 Floodplain Mapsheets for each project area
Flood Risk Areas and Historical Floods
Flood risk areas display the extent of known historical flood events as well as areas that have a probability of flooding as determined from historical records. The polygon data includes the description of the flood event, the typical causes of the flood and any associated place name keys. The line data indicates the limits of the flood risk mapping information and the 2008 and 2018 flood data.Flood extents for the 2008 and 2018 Lower Saint John River floods are included.
STAC-Item - 2015 - (Archived) Flood Susceptibility Index (FSI)
A national map of flood susceptibility or flood prone areas based on patterns of historic flood events as predicted by an ensemble machine learning model. The recommended use is national, provincial or regional scale and can be used as a guide for identifying areas for further investigation. This dataset, while processed and available at 30m cell size, is not recommended for use at the pixel or street level, given the uncertainty in the modelling process and the variability of results as discussed in https: **This third party metadata element follows the Spatio Temporal Asset Catalog (STAC) specification.**
