Lands Division Region Boundaries
The Lands Officer Region dataset is comprised of all the polygons that represent the Forestry and Parks Lands Officer Regions within the Province of Alberta.
Public Land Use Zone
The Public Land Use Zone (PLUZ) dataset is comprised of all the polygons that represent Public Land Use Zones in Alberta. A Public Land Use Zone is an area of land to which legislative controls are applied to achieve particular land management objectives identified in a guiding land and resource plan. They can be used to protect areas containing sensitive resources such as wildlife and their habitats, vegetation, soils and watersheds as well as to separate or manage conflicting recreational activities. These areas have been designated as Public Land Use Zones, under the authority of Section 178 and 208 of the Public Lands Administration Regulation (PLAR) under the Public Lands Act. Public Land Use Zones were formerly known as Forest Land Use Zones (FLUZ) which were designated under the former Forest Recreation Regulation under the Forests Act. The Public Lands Administration Regulation came into effect on September 12, 2011. At this time, Forest Land Use Zones under the Forest Recreation Regulation were incorporated into the Public Lands Act and Public Lands Administration Regulation. As a result, Forest Land Use Zone became Public Land Use Zone.
Map of Forest Management in Canada
Forests cover large areas of Canada but only some of these forests are actively managed. The Map of Forest Management in Canada provides a generalized classification of forest management in Canada, including: protected areas, Treaty/Settlement Lands (including Treaty Lands identified in Final Agreements, Land Claim Agreements and Settlements), Indian Reserves, other federal reserves (including military training areas), provincial and territorial reserves and restricted use areas, private lands, short- and long-term Crown forest tenure areas and areas with no current Crown timber dispositions. The Managed Forest Map of Canada dataset provides a wall-to-wall classification of lands in Canada. It does not differentiate areas of forest from non-forest. The Managed Forest Map of Canada differs from maps defining the area designated as “managed forest” for greenhouse gas inventory reporting purposes and does not replace those maps. Instead, the Managed Forest Map of Canada shows areas that are currently managed, as of June 2017, and provides generalized management type classification for those areas. Collaborating agencies plan to update the dataset periodically as needed, and remain open to receiving advice from experts concerning refinement priorities for future versions.
Stand Improvement
Dataset featuring the spatial location of stand improvement (precommercial thinning, plantation cleaning) treatments on private woodlots and provincial Crown Lands. The dataset is a record of silvicultural treatments going back to 2005 which is used to inform the history of forest management activities on private woodlots and provincial Crown Lands.
Provincial Forest Boundary Polygon
Represents the gross area boundary within which Saskatchewan Crown resource lands are designated as provincial forests. For the entire Canwood, Nisbet, Fort a la Corne, Torch River, and Porcupine Provincial Forests, and the southern portion of the Northern Provincial Forest, boundaries follow the textual descriptions found in The Forest Resources Management Regulations, F-19.1 Reg 1, amended June 2020. For the northern, eastern and western portions of the Northern Provincial Forest, boundaries were sourced from the SaskGIS Provincial Boundary data set (ADMINISTRATIVE.provincial_boundary) produced by Information Services Corporation. This data set depicts the provincial boundary of the province of Saskatchewan as reflected in the respective jurisdictional boundary acts, and is kept current on a monthly basis. The version used here has an effective date of 31 May 2020. Crown resource lands contained within these boundaries are designated as provincial forest. Certain lands have been deemed to be withdrawn from the provincial forest pursuant to subsection 12(4) of the Act. The Forest Resources Management Act The Forest Resources Management Regulations
