Rural Utilities Gas Franchise areas are created and maintained by Rural Utilities under the authority of the Gas Distribution Act. It contains the following layers: Apex Franchise Areas, ATCO Franchise Areas, Coop Franchise Areas, County Franchise Areas, Independent Franchise Areas, Community Gas Distributors and Customer Meters. “Changes to boundaries are based on a) additions or deletions of lands under the Gas Distribution Act and b) annexations or dissolutions under the Municipal Government Act.” Franchises cannot be issued for federal lands. However, the gas distributors serving these lands are under the authority of the Gas Distribution Act. For pipelines located in Indigenous Lands, please contact the applicable Band Administration Office or the gas distributor for that area. Designated gas storage areas are land areas designated by the Ontario Energy Board that contain geological formations used for subsurface storage of natural gas. This product requires the use of geographic information system (GIS) software.

Land Plats illustrate in map view the oil or gas Spacing Areas delimited in a pool, and names the geological formation in which the pool is recognised. Land Plats are the sole official record of where the Director of PandNG Titles Branch recognizes a pool of hydrocarbons to exist for the purpose of administering oil and gas title

Spatial data for approved and post construction features for Canada Energy Regulator (CER) related ancillary features and Energy Resources Activities Act (ERAA) associated oil and gas activities collected on or after October 30, 2006. Associated oil and gas activities are related activities which require the use of Crown land and require an authorization under either the Land Act or the Petroleum and Natural Gas Act. The dataset includes polygon features such as campsites, workspaces, deck sites, staging areas, and other temporary disturbances. This dataset is updated nightly.

Facilities are an oil and gas activity, defined in the Energy Resources Activities Act as a system of vessels, piping, valves, tanks and other equipment used to gather, process, measure, store or dispose of petroleum, natural gas, water or a substance referred to in paragraph (d) or (e) of the definition of pipeline. This dataset contains point features for proposed applications collected through the BC Energy Regulator's Application Management System (AMS). This dataset is updated nightly.
