Government of Canada Cumulative Effects Initiatives
The Government of Canada leads or supports a variety of initiatives that involve monitoring, assessing or managing cumulative effects. This record contains information about cumulative effects initiatives that are taking place across Canada. 16 federal departments and agencies that are involved in cumulative effects and related work were surveyed and 388 initiatives were collected. Seamounts of the Northeast Pacific Ocean
Seamounts have been identified as Ecologically or Biologically Significant Areas (EBSAs) due to their unique oceanography and ecology; they frequently serve as sites for fisheries and as habitat for a number of species of conservation concern. A mix of isolated seamounts and seamount complexes are distributed throughout Canada’s Pacific offshore waters, although only a subset of these are named. We used several pre-existing spatial databases and predictive models to map all named seamounts within Canada’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), all named seamounts fished by Canada in international waters, and any predicted (modelled) unnamed seamounts in the EEZ. These data are intended to inform marine planning initiatives in BC by providing collaborative, peer-reviewed scientific data at scales relevant to a BC coast-wide analysis.
Cumulative impacts from anthropogenic activities and stressors on marine ecosystems in Pacific Canada
Fisheries and Oceans Canada has conducted a cumulative human impact mapping analysis for Pacific Canada to support ongoing Marine Spatial Planning. Cumulative impact mapping (CIM) combines spatial information on human activities, habitats, and a matrix of vulnerability weights into an intuitive relative ‘cumulative impact score’ that shows where cumulative human impacts are greatest and least. To map cumulative impacts, a recently developed ecosystem vulnerability assessment for Pacific Canadian waters (Murray et al. 2022) was combined with spatial information on thirty-eight (38) different habitat types and forty-five (45) human activities following the methodology from Halpern et al.(2008) and Murray et al. (2015). The cumulative impact map is provided in a 1x1 km grid used for oceans management by Fisheries and Oceans Canada. For further information, please contact the data provider.
Greenhouse gas emissions from large facilities - Interactive map
The Canadian Environmental Sustainability Indicators (CESI) program provides data and information to track Canada's performance on key environmental sustainability issues. The Greenhouse gas emissions from large facilities indicator reports total greenhouse gas emissions from the largest greenhouse gas emitters in Canada for the 2024 reporting year. The Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program ensures that the greenhouse gas emissions from Canada's largest emitters are tracked and reported. This mandatory reporting contributes to the development, implementation and evaluation of climate change and energy policies and strategies in Canada. Greenhouse gas emissions data reported through the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program are used to inform the development of estimates of greenhouse gas emissions in Canada in the National Inventory Report, and to support regulatory initiatives. Information is provided to Canadians in a number of formats including: static and interactive maps, charts and graphs, HTML and CSV data tables and downloadable reports. Projects funded by the EVAFIDI, ZEVIP, and CHRI infrastructure programs
Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP) and Electric Vehicle and Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Deployment Initiative (EVAFIDI) qualitative, quantitative, and geographic data set derived from the program database. This data defines the project number, the number of chargers, the name of the promoter, the type of connector, the address, the city, the province, the postal code, the geographical coordinates, the status, the opening date, and the type of contribution agreement for each project funded by the program.The Canada Infrastructure Bank’s (CIB) Charging and Hydrogen Refuelling Infrastructure Initiative (CHRI) aims to reduce transportation sector greenhouse gas emissions by accelerating the private sector’s rollout of large-scale ZEV chargers and hydrogen refuelling stations, helping to spur the market for private investment.Through this initiative, the CIB has dedicated a minimum of $500 million to support the federal government’s goals as part of Canada’s 2030 Emissions Reduction Plan. Technology funding current to 30 June 2025.
Forest Resources Management Plans - 250k
The purpose of this feature class is to identify the individual annual allowable cut and annual limit areas as referred to in the Forest Resources Act subsection 20(2) and 31(10 of the Forest Resources Regulation). Where there is no approved Forest Resources Management Plan (FRMP) for an area, forest resources harvesting can only be authorized in an amount less than that prescribed by regulation for that area. The Forest Resources Regulation subsection 31(1) establishes the annual limits for harvesting timber resources for areas without an FRMP. These areas are referred to as the Annual Limit Regions in Schedule 1 of the Regulation titled Timber Harvesting Areas. Major Projects Inventory
Natural Resources Canada’s Major Projects Inventory published annually, provides a snapshot of major natural resource projects in Canada that are either currently under construction or are planned within the next 10 years.The inventory includes major projects that increase, extend or improve natural resource production in Canada, including new extraction projects, infrastructure projects, major processing facilities and large expansion projects. In addition, the inventory includes information on the value, timing and geographic location of projects.To be included in the inventory, projects in the energy and mining sectors must meet a minimum capital worth threshold of $50 million and electricity and forest sector projects must meet a threshold of $20 million. Also included in the inventory are clean energy and clean technology projects, which must meet a minimum capital worth threshold of $10 million.DISCLAIMER: Data is sourced from federal, provincial, and territorial databases, publicly accessible websites, and other sources, including CANOILS.
