Airborne Radionuclide Concentrations Dataset
The Airborne Radionuclide Concentrations (ARC) Dataset is a general dataset of airborne radionuclide concentrations analyzed at the Radiation Protection Bureau (RPB). The RPB is responsible for delivering Health Canada’s program in the area of ionizing radiation protection. This dataset includes radionuclide concentrations at locations in RPB’s Canadian air monitoring networks including its Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) stations and the Canadian Radiological Monitoring Network (CRMN). The dataset may also include additional airborne radionuclide concentration data from other networks, fieldwork and any additional data collected during emergencies. The dataset shows concentrations of airborne radionuclides that were targeted for analysis and detected, for example, Beryllium-7 (7Be), Lead-210 (210Pb), Cesium-134 (134Cs), Cesium-137 (137Cs), Iodine-131 (131I), Xenon-133 (133Xe), and Xenon-135 (135Xe), among others. The data is presented in xml file format, selected to conform to the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) International Radiological Information Exchange (IRIX) Format. The IRIX format is used to facilitate the exchange of web-based emergency data and information to help organizations respond to radiological incidents and emergencies. The map shows the approximate sampling location for each monitoring station. Stations are found within the associated location range.
Contaminants in fish database
The contaminants in fish database is a compilation of contaminant data analysed from fish tissue at the Fresh Water Institute from 1970 to 2005. Data include lab number, region, analysis, organs, species, lake, form (whole fish, headon dressed, headless dressed), weight, and length and contaminant concentrations. Total mercury was the predominant contaminant measured. Results were expressed as ppm or ppb based on the parameter analyzed. Concentrations are expressed based on wet weight.

Ocean Data Inventory ( ODI ): A Database of Ocean Current, Temperature and Salinity Time Series for the Northwest Atlantic
The Ocean Data Inventory database is an inventory of all of the oceanographic time series data held by the Ocean Science Division at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography. The data archive includes about 5800 current meter and acoustic doppler time series, 4500 coastal temperature time series from thermographs, as well as a small number (200) of tide gauges. Many of the current meters also have temperature and salinity sensors. The area for which there are data is roughly defined as the North Atlantic and Arctic from 30° - 82° N, although there are some minor amounts of data from other parts of the world. The time period is from 1960 to present. The database is updated on a regular basis.
Institute of Ocean Sciences Moored Instrument Data (Arctic), 1974-present
Moored instrument time series data include current velocity, temperature, salinity, oxygen, fluorescence, transmissivity, turbidity, and particle capture of carbon, nitrogen, and silicon. Also included are sediment trap, ice drift and ice draft data. These data were collected by researchers from the Institute of Ocean Sciences, Sidney, BC, from locations ranging from the Beaufort Sea, and across the Canadian Arctic Archipelago to Baffin Bay.The data links below are only a representative sample of the entire collection. Mean fork length of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) from 1971-2021
Mean fork length for returning adult Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) that spent one or two years (1SW and 2SW, respectively) in the marine environment for 16 rivers throughout Eastern Canada spanning an 10° latitudinal gradient. These data were collected as part of monitoring programs for Atlantic salmon returns run by Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO). Data from at least eight populations, spanning all provinces in Atlantic Canada, over a 50-year period (1970-2021) will be included in this meta-analysis.These data, as well as mean fork length for returning adult Atlantic salmon from three rivers in Québec (1979-2021) collected as part of monitoring programs for Atlantic salmon returns run by the Ministère de l’Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs, Government of Québec, are also available at: http://doi.org/10.17605/OSF.IO/78PWT.
Long Term Water Chemistry
Digitization of long-term water chemistry data collected between 1920's - 1990's from lakes across Saskatchewan by the Saskatchewan Fisheries Research Laboratory. Samples were collected using methods from the Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater (APHA, AWWA and WPCF). This data serves as a baseline for water quality. This dataset is a digitization from paper records of water chemistry data across Saskatchewan collected by the Saskatchewan Fisheries Research Laboratory. Data ranges from the 1920's to the 1990's and were sampled using methodes from the Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater (American Public Health Association, American Water Works Association and Water Pollution Control Facility) This long-term water chemistry data serves as a baseline for water quality. Different variables of water chemistry are organized into individual fields. The units of measurement appear at the end of each field name. Due to the historical nature of the data some uncertainty exist in values. Additonal notes on data: ND: no detection Trace: trace amounts Nil: zero NA: no data

Releases of harmful substances to water - Releases of arsenic to water by facility
The Canadian Environmental Sustainability Indicators (CESI) program provides data and information to track Canada's performance on key environmental sustainability issues. These indicators track facility-based releases to water of 4 substances that are defined as toxic under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999: mercury, lead, cadmium and arsenic and their compounds. For each substance, data are provided at the national, regional (provincial and territorial) and facility level, as well as by source. The indicators inform Canadians about releases to water of these 4 substances from facilities in Canada. The Releases of harmful substances to water indicators also help the government to identify priorities and develop or revise strategies to inform further risk management and to track progress on policies put in place to reduce or control these 4 substances and water pollution in general.Information is provided to Canadians in a number of formats including: static and interactive maps, charts and graphs, HTML and CSV data tables and downloadable reports. See the supplementary documentation for the data sources and details on how the data were collected and how the indicator was calculated.Canadian Environmental Sustainability Indicators: https://www.canada.ca/environmental-indicators
Scientific survey of sea scallop (Placopecten magellanicus) and Icelandic scallop (Chlamys islandica) around the Magdalen Islands (fishing area 20A)
Since 1985, research surveys targeting scallops—primarily the sea scallop (Placopecten magellanicus) and, to a lesser extent, the Icelandic scallop (Chlamys islandica)—have been conducted by Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) at one- or two-year intervals around the Magdalen Islands (fishing area 20A). The main objective of this survey is to assess the status of sea scallop stocks. The study area is situated south of the Magdalen Islands, where scallop beds are typically sampled at depths ranging from approximately 25 to 35 m. Sampling stations are randomly selected from a predetermined fixed grid, with sampling conducted along transects at these randomly assigned locations within the study area. Each station is sampled using a lined Digby scallop dredge (20 mm mesh size), towed for roughly 500 m across the seabed. This publication includes three files: the file biometriePetoncle_20, which contains detailed biometric data (species, size, weights and sex) from 1998 to 2024; the file taillePetoncle_20, which provides the size of the individuals sampled from 2009 to 2024; and the file traitPetoncle_20 which contains the abundances and densities per tow from 2009 to 2024. Data on abundances and densities per tow from 1998-2008 is available upon request. This dataset is updated every one to two years as data becomes available. A cleaning of aberrant data has been carried out. However, there is missing data in various columns of the dataset – use the data with caution. If you have any questions please contact DFO.DataManagementSAISB-GestionDonneesDAISS.MPO@dfo-mpo.gc.ca or the author. For certain time periods, associated species are identified and semi-quantitatively counted directly on the sorting table, and the results are presented in the following publications: - https://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/6529a4b0-f863-4568-ac71-1fa26cf68679- https://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/71732ad5-5c70-4dbf-916d-a94e1380c53b
