Coastal Ferry Routes
The locations of coastal ferry routes in British Columbia. This includes ferries in coastal waters like BC Ferries, barges, water taxis, etc. but does not include freshwater ferries on inland rivers or lakes.
Ferry Schedules
Public Works operates seven ferries. All are links in our provincial highway system and include: Four cable ferries: LaHave - Lunenburg County; Country Harbour, Guysborough County; Little Narrows, Victoria County; Englishtown, Victoria County. Three ocean-going, self-propelled ferries: Tancook Island – Chester; Petit Passage at Digby Neck; Grand Passage at Digby Neck. Content within this dataset relates to the operations schedules for all ferries. Refer to 511 for current availability of service: http://511.gov.ns.ca/en/map/
FERRYSEG OFFICIAL
FERRYSEG_OFFICIAL provides the information about the Ferry Connection Segments. Ferry Connection Segment is the specific representation of a portion of a ferry connection with uniform characteristics. FERRYSEG_OFFICIAL is one of the base layer used to create "Ferryseg" layer for Saskatchewan Upgraded Road Network (SURN) and National Road Network (NRN). This data layer has been created for mainly MHI data users, that require relatively up-to-date and accurate description of all ferry routes in the Province of Saskatchewan.FERRYSEG_OFFICIAL consists of the data for the average route a ferryboat takes when transporting vehicles between two fixed locations on the Road Network. "NID" National Identifier is used to manage the updates between data producer and data users. FERRYSEG_OFFICIAL data layer serves as a foundation for SURN, NRN, SASK911 and other applications.
Martimes Summer Research Vessel Survey
“Summer” missions occur in June, July and August and these focus on the Scotian Shelf and Bay of Fundy (i.e. 4VWX 5Yb, expanding recently to include the Laurentian Channel and Georges Bank (5Zc). Collected data includes total catch in numbers and weights by species. Length frequency data is available for most species, as are the age, sex, maturity and weight information for a subset of the individual animals. Other data such as ageing material, genetic material, and stomach contents are often also collected, but are stored elsewhere.“Summer” cruises occur in May, June, July and August and these focus on the Scotian Shelf and Bay of Fundy (i.e. 4VWX).Cite this data as: Clark, D., Emberley, J. British Columbia Coastal Anchor Marks
The marks left in the seabed by the commercial anchoring process can be seen as linear features in high-resolution multibeam bathymetry data. These features have been digitized to polylines for individual marks and polygons for anchor scour zones for British Columbia's (BC) commercial anchorages. They are made available via the Federal Geospatial Platform (FGP) for use in a Geographical Information System (GIS). This feature dataset is complete for published BC commercial anchorages and the multibeam bathymetry data available in 2021. It does not represent features produced since the collection of each multibeam bathymetry survey nor any features infilled since. The data are intended to be used for scientific research to better understand the cumulative impacts to the seabed from commercial anchoring at a 1:5000 scale or greater.

Satellite telemetry data related to seasonal movements of harbour seals (Phoca vitulina) from the St. Lawrence Estuary and Sable Island, 1994 – 1998
The initial objective of this dataset was to study the seasonal movement patterns of harbour seals (Phoca vitulina) in the St. Lawrence Estuary and Sable Island. This study was part of a larger program that studied the foraging behavior of the species.Ten harbour seals were captured using gillnets from 1994 to 1998 at three sites in the St. Lawrence Estuary (Bic, n=1 individual; île Blanche, n=1; Métis-sur-Mer, n=5) and one site on Sable Island (n=3 individuals). The individuals were equipped with a satellite-linked time-depth recorder (Type3.10, Wildlife Computers) equipped with an Argos tag and placed on the back of the neck. For most individuals, satellite tracking began in September and continued until the following spring. Seasonal dive patterns for these same individuals are available in the following publication: Seasonal dive patterns of harbor seals (Phoca vitulina) from the St. Lawrence Estuary and Sable Island, 1994 – 1998 https://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/b4812613-4cdd-4fdc-b8bc-5e08ffc87eb6The dataset consists of series of geographic locations of ten harbor seals with associated dates and times and movement speeds calculated from successive locations. The location data were only filtered based on the validity class provided by Argos. Class Z locations were excluded.
