Cratonic Elements
This map service provides access to the Cratonic Elements dataset shown on the GeoAtlas application.**Please Note – All published Saskatchewan Geological Survey datasets, including those available through the Saskatchewan Mining and Petroleum GeoAtlas, are sourced from the Enterprise GIS Data Warehouse. They are therefore identical and share the same refresh schedule. This dataset shows the Cratonic Elements of the province of Saskatchewan at 1:1 million scale. This data was compiled using years of bedrock mapping, compiled into a file geodatabase feature class and output for public distribution.

GeoAI - Change detection use case - Trois-Rivières
Temporal analysis of changes in Trois-Rivières, Québec, based on GeoAI features automatically extracted from satellite images acquired in 2013 and 2021-22. Simple geospatial analysis intersecting Statistics Canada's Open Database of Buildings, version 3 (ODB v3) with GeoAI multidate building features enables the detection of buildings observed in 2021-22 that were not detected in 2013. The addition of new buildings is a good indicator of urban development and/or sprawl.GeoAI enables temporal coverage of various areas in Canada, thus providing a useful tool for change detection and trend analysis at high resolution. Solonetzic Soils
This map displays the distribution of Solonetzic soils in the agricultural region of Alberta. Solonetzic soils have developed on saline parent material that is high in sodium and have a characteristic hardpan layer that has formed in the subsoil. This hardpan is very hard when dry and has low permeability when wet. This results in restricted root and water penetration that may limit the productivity of these soils. Solonetzic soils occur in association with Chernozemic soils and, to a lesser extent, with Luvisolic soils.The Agricultural Region of Alberta Soil Inventory Database (AGRASID) soil landscape polygons that contained soils belonging to the Solonetzic Order were identified, and the areal extent of these soils was represented as a percentage of the total area using the following classes: greater than 30, 10 to 30 and less than 10. This resource was created in 2002 using ArcGIS.

GeoAI - Change detection use case - Victoria
Temporal analysis of changes for Victoria, British Columbia, based on GeoAI features automatically extracted from satellite images acquired in the 2000s, 2010s and 2020s. Simple geospatial analysis intersecting Statistics Canada's Open Database of Buildings, version 3 (ODB v3) with GeoAI multidate building features enables the detection of buildings observed in the 2000s, 2010s and 2020s. The addition of new buildings is a good indicator of urban development and/or sprawl. Using the same approach, GeoAI multidate roads enable the detection of Statistics Canada's National Roads Network (NRN) segments present in the 2000s, 2010s and 2020s. The development of new roads is also indicator of urban development and/or sprawl. Complementarily, an analysis of changes in the forest coverage from the GeoAI datasets is done between the 2000s and the 2020s. This analysis reflects the gains and losses between both dates.GeoAI enables temporal coverage of various areas in Canada, thus providing a useful tool for change detection and trend analysis at high resolution. An ecological sketch of some Fundy fisheries
This data record contains four digitized maps recreated from an original report entitled An Ecological Sketch of Some Fundy Fisheries published by the Conservation Council of New Brunswick. The selected maps summaries information obtained from active and retired fishermen, combined with a survey of the scientific and historical information. They illustrate knowledge on spawning, migration, and nursery grounds for herring and other fisheries for Grand Manan, Bay of Fundy, and Gulf of Maine.Cite this data as: Coon, D. 1999. Community Aquatic Monitoring Program (CAMP) data for the Southern Gulf of St. Lawrence Dataset
Each summer, environmental community groups collect important data to determine if groupings of fish, shrimp and crab – what is called a community- can be used as an indicator of the health status of bays and estuaries. Sampling was conducted from May through September for the first years then from June through August. In 2018 and 2019, the sampling was conducted just once in each estuary. Community group members and staff sample six stations once a month in their designated estuary.Fish, shrimps and crabs are collected with a beach seine net and later released live back to the water once identified and counted. From this, the community groups provide important information to Fisheries and Oceans Canada, including:- identification and numbers of fish, shrimp and crab species;- water conditions and samples;- information on aquatic plants;- sediment samples.With this information, Fisheries and Oceans Canada scientists working with government agencies and universities can conduct analyses to determine the suitability of indicators to assess the health of bays and estuaries.PARAMETERS COLLECTED:Parameters: abundance, species richness, species developmental stage (young-of-the-year or adult), water temperature, water salinity, water dissolved oxygen, dissolved inorganic nutrient (nitrate, nitrite, phosphate), sediment % organic content, sediment % humidity content and sediment mean grain size, % submerged aquatic vegetation coverNOTES ON QUALITY CONTROL:Data entry into Excel and first quality control verification is done by CAMP summer students. A second quality control verification is done by DFO staff. See publ # 2823 attached to this record.In 2018, the historical data was migrated into a relationship database. From this year on, annual data will be entered into the database using a custom application.
