Trends of surface pressure change based on adjusted and homogenized climate station data
Monthly, seasonal and annual trends of mean hourly sea level and station pressure change (hectopascals) based on homogenized station data (AHCCD) are available. Trends are calculated using the Theil-Sen method using the station’s full period of available data. The availability of surface pressure trends will vary by station; if more than 5 consecutive years are missing data or more than 10% of the data within the time series is missing, a trend was not calculated.

Homogenized Surface Pressure (AHCCD)
The Homogenized Surface Pressure data consist of monthly, seasonal and annual means of hourly sea level and station pressure (hectopascals) for 626 locations in Canada. Homogenized climate data incorporate adjustments (derived from statistical procedures) to the original station data to account for discontinuities from non-climatic factors, such as instrument changes or station relocation. The time periods of the data vary by location, with the oldest data available from 1953 at some stations to the most recent update in 2014. Data availability over most of the Canadian Arctic is restricted to 1953 to present. The data will continue to be updated every few years (as time permits).
Rural Utilities Alberta Low Pressure Gas Distribution
This dataset is provided by the Ministry of Utilities and Affordability, Rural Utilities Branch, and represents rural low-pressure pipelines (less than 700 kPa) and customer meters in Alberta that are under the jurisdiction of the Gas Distribution Act, including Gas Co-operatives, First Nations, Municipalities and Counties, Private Systems, Apex Utilities Inc., and ATCO Gas Inc. The data is based on the annual submissions of construction as-builts to Rural Utilities, Alberta Affordability and Utilities. The geodatabase contains linear pipeline data features and customer meter point features. The pipeline data features contain: Pipe material. Status. Year built, if known, and the name of the natural gas distributor and general contact information for inquiries and requests. The meter attributes include the type of meter and the contact information for each distributor. The Customer meters features contain: Meter Code. Meter Type. and the name of the natural gas distributor and general contact information for inquiries and requests.
Canada’s Low-Head Hydropower Resource Database: Sites with Head Under 15 m and Capacity Below 50 MW
This dataset identifies potential low head hydropower development sites across Canada, based on a comprehensive review of existing studies and resource databases. Low head hydropower refers to sites where the vertical drop (head) is 15 meters or less. Sites included in this dataset also have an estimated generation capacity of 50 megawatts (MW) or less.The original database was developed by Hatch Ltd. for Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) as part of a national low head hydropower market assessment. It integrates data from multiple sources, including provincial inventories, prior Hatch studies, and legacy fieldwork records. To enhance data completeness, NRCan subsequently revised the database by supplementing missing site names, river names, and geographic coordinates where possible.The finalized dataset comprises 2,629 potential low head hydropower sites distributed across Canada. It is provided in the form of provincial and territorial shapefiles, each containing detailed site-level attributes. Attributes include site name, river name, site ID, source of information, local map number, geographic coordinates (X and Y), site region, presence of a dam, grid connection status, Indigenous affiliation, catchment area, mean annual flow, rated discharge, gross head, penstock length and diameter, estimated installed capacity, dedicated transmission line length, site comments, and Indigenous reserve name.Disclaimer:This dataset was developed to support preliminary assessments of low head hydropower potential in Canada and is subject to the following limitations:• The original database was compiled from various secondary sources, including data provided by third-party contributors and Hatch Ltd.’s own records. Some of these sources date back several decades. The water level data comes from the groundwater monitoring network of Nova Scotia (Canadian province). Each well in the observation network is equipped with a hydrostatic pressure transducer and a temperature sensor connected to a data logger. A second pressure transducer located above the water surface allows for adjusting the water level according to atmospheric pressure variations. The time series refers to the level below which the soil is saturated with water at the site and at the time indicated. The water level is expressed in meters above sea level (MASL). The dataset consists of a general description of the observation site including; the identifier, the name, the location, the elevation and a series of numerical values designating the water levels at a defined date and time of measurement.
