Morrison Creek lamprey, Lampetra richardsoni variety marifuga are found only in Morrison Creek in Courtenay, BC. In 1995, this variety was designated Endangered by COSEWIC and is currently protected under the Species at Risk Act (SARA). For the years, 2011-2013 and 2015-2017, efforts were made to live trap Morrison Creek lamprey on and around spawning time. In 2014, DFO worked collaboratively with Hancock Forestry Management to assess the extent of the distribution of lamprey within the headwaters of Morrison creek on the land owned by the company. This dataset includes data for 2011 to 2017 inclusive.

A tribal council is a grouping of First Nations with common interests who voluntarily joined together to provide services to member First Nations.The tribal council geographic location dataset contains the geographic location of all tribal councils in Canada as points as well as basic attributes data. Each tribal council point represents its address as it is registered in Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) Indian Government Support System (IGSS). A connection with the IGSS is in place to ensure that any update to the system is reflected in the attributes data associated with the geography of each tribal council. This dataset is Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) and Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) official source for Tribal Councils geographic location on maps.

Community Areas are a standard analytical and service delivery geography for the city of Winnipeg and the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority.Community Areas are a standard analytical and service delivery geography for the city of Winnipeg and the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority.  The Community Areas geographic areas were developed by the Community Data Network (now more commonly referred to as the Winnipeg Community Data Consortium), with input from the WRHA, Manitoba Health, the City of Winnipeg, and other stakeholders. Community areas can be defined to either include or exclude the municipalities of East and West St. Paul. Because the Winnipeg RHA is defined to include East and West St. Paul, use of the geographies in a health services or health status context includes East and West St. Paul. Conversely, because the City of Winnipeg excludes East and West St. Paul, use of the geographies in a municipal administrative context excludes East and West St. Paul. This shapefile reflects the use of Community Areas in a health services or health status context, and includes East and West St. Paul.

Often these parcels were surveyed before township surveys in their area. They may also be supplemental to them (as is the case with some Cadastral Islands). Sometimes these were laid out after a township survey was done, so some may be part of a geographic township. Cadastral Location includes the following: GTP Block - Timber block used by the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway for feeding steam engines, building bridges, and for supplying railway ties. Mining Location - A parcel of land whose surveyed boundaries were laid out during the late nineteenth century for the Crown sale of land for mining purposes to groups or individuals. Cadastral Island - Island delineated on survey plans. It may or may not be part of a geographic township. Other Location - A parcel of land whose surveyed boundaries were laid out during the late nineteenth century for the Crown sale of land for various agricultural or farming purposes to groups or individuals. These locations are mainly found in Northern Ontario and also exist in the un-surveyed territories.

This point dataset represents both applications for a Mines Act permit and issued authorizations for mining activities proposed in the application. Applications for regional Mines Act permits are known as Notice of Work (NoW) applications. Regional mine permits are issued for mineral and coal exploration activities, sand and gravel production, quarry production, and placer mining. Major mine permits are issued for producing mineral and coal mines. Permits are issued by the chief permitting officer under section 10 of the Mines Act and administered by the ministry. Regional mines include: * Exploration — mineral, coal, rock quarry, industrial mineral or dimension stone * Sand and gravel — aggregate, rock or natural substances used for construction purposes * Placer   Most exploration and development activities require a permit under the Mines Act. A decision marks the end of the permitting process for a NoW application. The decision can either be to reject the application or to authorize the mining activities proposed in the NoW. * For new NoW authorizations, a Mines Act permit is issued * For an existing open Mines Act permit, the newly authorized mining activities are amended to the existing permit and the permit is re-issued   **NOTE:** Administrative amendments to a NoW are not captured in this dataset. We are currently working to include this addition for a more complete view of the data. For proponents, please log into https://minespace.gov.bc.ca/ to confirm any authorizations on your permits. The ministry is transitioning from point data to polygonal data for permits and authorizations. The polygon dataset is added to when data becomes available. Users should use both the point dataset and the polygon dataset in combination. The government needs to action the next steps * Withdrawn – Client requested the application to be withdrawn * Pending verification – Category for records needing review and verification. Typically, these are historical NoW applications with approvals. Emerald Basin on the Scotia Shelf off Nova Scotia, Canada, is home to a globally unique population of the glass sponge Vazella pourtalesi. Through the analysis of both in situ photographs and trawl catch data from annual multispecies bottom-trawl surveys, we examined community composition, species density, and abundance of epibenthos and fish associated with V. pourtalesi compared to locations without this sponge. Using generalized linear models and analysis of similarities, the importance of V. pourtalesi in enhancing species density and abundance of the associated epibenthic community was assessed against that of the hard substrate on which it settles. Our results indicated that the megafaunal assemblage associated with V. pourtalesi was significantly different in composition and higher in species density and abundance compared to locations without V. pourtalesi. Analysis of similarity of trawl catch data indicated that fish communities associated with the sponge grounds are significantly different from those without V. pourtalesi, although no species were found exclusively on the sponge grounds. Our study provides further evidence of the role played by sponge grounds in shaping community structure and biodiversity of associated deep-sea epibenthic and fish communities. The mechanism for biodiversity enhancement within the sponge grounds formed by V. pourtalesi is likely the combined effect of both the sponge itself and its attachment substrate, which together comprise the habitat of the sponge grounds. We also discuss the role of habitat provision between the mixed-species tetractinellid sponges of the Flemish Cap and the monospecific glass sponge grounds of Emerald Basin.
