DND Military Base
The DND Military Base dataset is comprised of all the polygons that represent the Military Bases established for the Department of National Defence, Government of Canada, within the Province of Alberta. A Military Base is an area owned by the Department of National Defence, Government of Canada where various military activities occur.
DND Air Weapons Range
The DND Air Weapons Range dataset is comprised of all the polygons that represent the Air Weapons Range established by the Department of National Defence, Government of Canada, within the Province of Alberta. Air Weapons Range is the area used as a practice and firing range with restricted access provisions and which is owned and operated by the Department of National Defence, Government of Canada.
Vector Digital Topographic Map - VMap1, 1945 -1996
The VMap1 collection is a legacy product that is no longer supported. It may not meet current government standards.VMap1 is a vector digital topographic reference product developed by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and The Department of National Defence (DND). VMap1 complies with international military specifications vector map, level 1. There are 24 VMap1 libraries covering the Canadian territory. The National Topographic Data Base (NTDB) at scale of 1:250 000 is the main source used to populate the Canadian VMap1 Libraries. Administrative Boundaries from Statistics Canada are used to add international borders, provincial and Indian reserve limits. NRCan paper maps at scale of 1:250 000 and the information in the Canadian Geographical Names Data Base (CGNDB) are used to capture the names. The JOG (Joint Operations Graphic) paper maps were used by DND for the production of libraries 37, 38 and 66. Topographic features mainly from the NTDB have not been updated. VMap1 is published once and no product revision is planned.
Labrador DND Waterfowl Survey 1994-2004
The Canadian Wildlife Service (CWS), as commissioned by the Department of National Defense (DND), conducted the Labrador DND Waterfowl Survey using helicopters to survey breeding waterfowl in eight years between 1994-2004 on fourteen 10x10 km (100 km²) plots located in Labrador. The objective of the survey was to assess the effects of jet overflights in the DND low-level flight training area in Labrador on breeding waterfowl densities. The survey design included a subset of plots designated as control plots with no history of overflights and experimental plots that were subjected to high frequency, low (generally <500m above ground level) overflights (>4 per day). Earlier analyses based on the three control plots (DND-9, DND-10 WL-15) and three experimental plots (DND-1, DND-3, DND-8) surveyed from 1995-1998 showed high densities of Canada Goose and American Black Duck on the high frequency plots compared to the control plots, suggesting these species can use habitat that is subjected to frequent low-level jet overflights (Bateman et al. 1999). This is the first publication of the complete survey dataset including all plots, years and species.Complete bilingual metadata including detailed survey protocols and data dictionaries is available in downloadable files.Bateman, M.C., Hicks, A.H., & Bowes, S.M. 1999. STAC-Item - NRCAN Gibbons UTM12 2015 1m - Mosaic of High Resolution Digital Elevation Model (HRDEM) by LiDAR acquisition project
High-Resolution Digital Elevation Model (HRDEM) generated from LiDAR. This data collection includes a Digital Terrain Model (DTM) and a Digital Surface Model (DSM). The HRDEM product is referenced to the Canadian Geodetic Vertical Datum of 2013 (CGVD2013). Source data for HRDEM datasets is acquired through multiple projects with different partners. Since data is being acquired by project, there is no integration or edgematching done between projects. The data in this collection have been reprojected from the source reference system to the Canada Atlas Lambert projection (EPSG:3979). **This third party metadata element follows the Spatio Temporal Asset Catalog (STAC) specification.**
