Multi-Spectral Clear-Sky Composites of MODIS/Terra Land Channels (B1 - B7) Over Canada at 250m Spatial Resolution, 2000-03-01 to 2013-01-10
The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS ) is one of the most sophisticated sensors that is used in a wide range of applications related to land, ocean and atmosphere. It has 36 spectral channels with spatial resolution varying between 250 m and 1 km at nadir. MODIS channels 1 (B1, visible) and 2 (B2, near infrared) are available at 250 m spatial resolution, an additional five channels for terrestrial applications (bands B3 to B7) are available at 500 m spatial resolution, the other twenty-nine channels not included in this data set capture images with a spatial resolution of 1 km. The MODIS record begins in March 2000 and extends to present with daily measurements over the globe. This level 3 product for Canada was created from the following original Level 1 (1B) MODIS data (collection 5): a) MOD02QKM - Level 1B 250 m swath data, 5 min granules; b ) MOD02HKM - level 1B , 500 m swath data, 5 min granules; c) MOD03 - level 1 geolocation information, 1 km swath data, 5 min granules. All these data are available from the DAAC Earth Observing System Data Gateway (NASA http://ladsweb.nascom.nasa.gov/data/search.html). The terrestrial channels MODIS (B3 to B7) at 500 m spatial resolution were reduced to 250 m with an adaptive regression system and normalization described in Trishchenko et al. (2006, 2009), and the data were mapped using a Lambert Conformal Conic (LCC ) projection (Khlopenkov et al., 2008). These data were combined to form pan-Canadian images using a technique for detection of clear sky, clouds and cloud shadows with a maximum interval of 10 days (Luo et al., 2008). Atmospheric and sun-sensor geometry corrections have not been applied. For each date, data include forward and backward scattering observations as separate files. This allows data to be optimized for a given application. For general use, data from either forward or backward scattering or both should be used. Future release of the MODIS time series will correct the forward and backward scattering geometry to provide a single best observation for each pixel.

GDPS Forecasted Accumulated Precipitation - 168 & 240 hrs
This polygon layer provides medium-range (up to 10 days) accumulated precipitation forecasts from the Global Deterministic Prediction System (GDPS), a worldwide numerical weather model run by Environment and Climate Change Canada. It addresses broad-scale weather systems and supplies boundary conditions for nested regional models.Global Scope: The GDPS covers the entire planet at ~15 km resolution, projecting large-scale atmospheric developments over a 240-hour window. Coupled Model: Integrates atmospheric and oceanic interactions, improving forecast accuracy for cyclones, frontal systems, and long-traveling storm patterns. Operational Backbone: Frequently used as a reference for regional or local models (e.g., RDPS) and for medium-range planning in water resource management or agriculture. Forecast Frequency: Runs twice daily, producing deterministic outputs that guide meteorologists, hydrologists, and emergency preparedness teams.
Medium Resolution Digital Elevation Model (MRDEM) - CanElevation Series
**ATTENTION! The files in this dataset are designed for streaming, not downloading. For the best experience, please follow the instructions available in the resources.**In replacement of the former Canadian Digital Elevation Model (CDEM) that is no longer supported, the Medium Resolution Digital Elevation Model (MRDEM) product is a multi-source product that integrates elevation data from the Copernicus DEM** acquired during the TanDEM-X Mission (AIRBUS, 2022), and the High Resolution Digital Elevation Model data derived from airborne lidar. This product provides a complete, 30 meters resolution, nationwide coverage for Canada. It includes a Digital Terrain Model (DTM), a Digital Surface Model (DSM) and other derived products. The spatial coverage extends into the USA, where needed, to provide coverage for cross-border watersheds in support of hydrological studies and applications. The MRDEM-30-DSM is partially based on the GLO-30 version of the Copernicus DEM** (hereafter named GLO-30). Since elevation values from the GLO-30 are referenced to the EGM2008 geoid model, they were transformed to the Canadian Height Reference System of 2013 (CGVD2013), using the CGG2013 geoid model. Where available, the MRDEM-30-DSM integrates surface data from the lidar-derived HRDEM mosaic, resampled from 1 m to 30 m. The process to generate the MRDEM-30-DTM is more complex. Where available, the HRDEM Mosaic derived from lidar was used since it already provides reliable terrain elevation values. The HRDEM Mosaic data used was resampled from 1m to 30m. Elsewhere, the processing workflow combines a forest removal model and a settlement removal model that is applied to the GLO-30 values in order to estimate the terrain elevation values. Both datasets are projected to Canada Atlas Lambert NAD83 (CSRS) (EPSG:3979).The MRDEM is referenced to the CGVD2013 which is the reference standard for orthometric heights across Canada. The product Medium Resolution Digital Elevation Model (MRDEM) is part of the CanElevation Series created in support to the National Elevation Data Strategy implemented by NRCan.** This product was in part produced using Copernicus WorldDEM-30 © DLR e.V. 2010-2014 and © Airbus Defence and Space GmbH 2014- 2018 provided under COPERNICUS by the European Union and ESA; all rights reserved. The organisations in charge of the Copernicus program by law or by delegation do not incur any liability for any use of the Copernicus WorldDEM-30.

Forecasted Basin-Average Accumulated Precipitation (ECMWF - 7 Days)
This polygon layer displays sub-basin-level average precipitation derived from the ECMWF (European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) model. This layer helps hydrologists, forecasters, and planners see how much rainfall/snowfall is predicted or has occurred in each sub-basin, supporting medium-range water resource and flood management. We are intersested in the forecast period of 7 days. This layer aggregates ECMWF forecast precipitation over polygonal sub-basins. Each feature includes attributes for average accumulated precipitation, forecast run/valid times, and sub-basin identifiers. ECMWF is a leading global model offering medium-range (up to 10 days) forecasts at a high skill level. By focusing on sub-basins, this layer aids in local-scale decision-making—enabling more precise flood risk assessments, reservoir inflow estimates, and water resource planning across the region of interest.

Peak Season Leaf Area Index of Canada from Medium Resolution Satellite Imagery
Leaf area index (LAI) quantified the density of vegetation irrespective of land cover. LAI quantifies the total foliage surface area per groud surface area. LAI has been identified by the Global Climate Observing System as an essential climate variable required for ecosystem, weather and climate modelling and monitoring. This product consists of annual maps of the maximum LAI during a grownig season (June-July-August) at 100m resolution covering Canada's land mass.
Monthly Fraction of Vegetation Cover of Canada from Medium Resolution Satellite Imagery
FCOVER corresponds to the amount of the ground surface that is covered by vegetation, including the understory, when viewed vertically (from nadir). FCOVER is an indicator of the spatial extent of vegetation independent of land cover class. It is a dimensionless quantity that varies from 0 to 1, and as an intrinsic property of the canopy, is not dependent on satellite observation conditions. This product consists of a national scale coverage (Canada) of monthly maps of FCOVER indicator during a growing season (May-June-July-August-September) at 20m resolution.References:L. Brown, R.
