Near-seafloor drift transect video and high-resolution digital still imagery from a three-year survey in the Fundy Isles region of the lower, western Bay of Fundy
Funded under DFO's Marine Conservation Targets Program, this optical imagery benthic survey captured 73 drift-camera transects from September 21, 2022 to October 3, 2024 in the Fundy Isles region of the lower, western Bay of Fundy, New Brunswick, Canada. The survey area includes the 'Head Harbour/West Isles Archipelago/The Passages' Ecologically and Biologically Significant Area (ESBA, ~113 km2), the Wolves Islands and Grand Manan Island. High-resolution still images (n=5081) were taken periodically throughout each transect, while continuous high-definition downward- and forward-facing video (~30 hours of each) was collected simultaneously. Distance travelled and distance between still images (m) was calculated using ArcGIS tools. Field of view (FOV) was estimated by measuring the length and width of a subset of still images (n=863) in ImageJ2, using 10-cm lasers for scale. FOV was standardized for each reported altitude. Transects ranged from 133 m to 2.6 km in length (~47 km surveyed in total), collecting imagery continuously for 3 minutes to more than 1 hour at a time, surveying depths from 15 to 188 m below chart datum. Transect locations were selected based on unique bathymetric features, areas previously predicted to have high habitat suitability for vulnerable marine ecosystem species, as well as proposed areas for inclusion in the regional marine conservation network plan.Additional information and imagery pertaining specifically to the 2022 datasets can be found at the following link in the Open Government Portal: https://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/8ea6c28a-3d6c-47ef-8cf7-56790ee0c7f5Cite this data as: Lawton P, Teed L. Benthoscape Map of German Bank
The data layer (.shp) presented is the result of an unsupervised classification method for classifying seafloor habitat on German Bank (off South West Nova Scotia, Canada). This method involves separating environmental variables derived from multibeam bathymetry (Slope, Curvature) and backscatter (principal components: Q1, Q2, and Q3) into spatial units (i.e. pixels) and classifying the acoustically separated units into 5 habitat classes (Reef, Glacial Till, Silt, Silt with Bedforms, and Sand with Bedforms) using in situ data (imagery). Benthoscape classes (synonymous to landscape classifications in terrestrial ecology) describe the geomorphology and biology of the seafloor and are derived from elements of the seafloor that were acoustically distinguishable.Unsupervised classifications (acoustic classifications) optimized at 15 classes using Idrisi CLUSTER method (pixel based)Number representing the benthoscape classes (CLASS) derived from in situ imagery and video (See Brown et al., 2012, Figure 3, Table 1).Benthoscape classes (See Brown et al., 2012, Figure 3).Reference:Brown, C. High Resolution Digital Elevation Model Mosaic (HRDEM Mosaic) - CanElevation Series
The High Resolution Digital Elevation Model Mosaic provides a unique and continuous representation of the high resolution elevation data available across the country. The High Resolution Digital Elevation Model (HRDEM) product used is derived from airborne LiDAR data (mainly in the south) and satellite images in the north. The mosaic is available for both the Digital Terrain Model (DTM) and the Digital Surface Model (DSM) from web mapping services. It is part of the CanElevation Series created to support the National Elevation Data Strategy implemented by NRCan. This strategy aims to increase Canada's coverage of high-resolution elevation data and increase the accessibility of the products.Unlike the HRDEM product in the same series, which is distributed by acquisition project without integration between projects, the mosaic is created to provide a single, continuous representation of strategy data. The most recent datasets for a given territory are used to generate the mosaic. This mosaic is disseminated through the Data Cube Platform, implemented by NRCan using geospatial big data management technologies. These technologies enable the rapid and efficient visualization of high-resolution geospatial data and allow for the rapid generation of dynamically derived products. The mosaic is available from Web Map Services (WMS), Web Coverage Services (WCS) and SpatioTemporal Asset Catalog (STAC) collections. Accessible data includes the Digital Terrain Model (DTM), the Digital Surface Model (DSM) and derived products such as shaded relief and slope. The mosaic is referenced to the Canadian Height Reference System 2013 (CGVD2013) which is the reference standard for orthometric heights across Canada.Source data for HRDEM datasets used to create the mosaic is acquired through multiple projects with different partners.Collaboration is a key factor to the success of the National Elevation Strategy. Refer to the “Supporting Document” section to access the list of the different partners including links to their respective data.
Cobb Seamount Visual Survey 2012 (ROV)
This dataset contains observations of species occurrences from seafloor imagery collected by the remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) during the 2012 Expedition to Cobb Seamount. The ROV operated by Fisheries and Oceans Canada was a customized Deep Ocean Engineering Phantom HD2+2 which collected photographic images from 12 transects ranging from 35 m to 211 m in depth.

Ski Resorts is a point dataset identifying the location of ski resorts in British Columbia.
NWT Aster DEM Basemap
The ASTER instrument that was launched onboard NASA’s Terra spacecraft in December 1999 has an along-track stereoscopic capability using two telescopes in its near infrared spectral band to acquire data from nadir and backward views. Over 1.2 million scenes (level-1A products) acquired between March 2000 and August 2008 were used to generate the ASTER Global DEM (ASTGTM) collection. An ecological sketch of some Fundy fisheries
This data record contains four digitized maps recreated from an original report entitled An Ecological Sketch of Some Fundy Fisheries published by the Conservation Council of New Brunswick. The selected maps summaries information obtained from active and retired fishermen, combined with a survey of the scientific and historical information. They illustrate knowledge on spawning, migration, and nursery grounds for herring and other fisheries for Grand Manan, Bay of Fundy, and Gulf of Maine.Cite this data as: Coon, D. 1999. GeoAI - Change detection use case - Victoria
Temporal analysis of changes for Victoria, British Columbia, based on GeoAI features automatically extracted from satellite images acquired in the 2000s, 2010s and 2020s. Simple geospatial analysis intersecting Statistics Canada's Open Database of Buildings, version 3 (ODB v3) with GeoAI multidate building features enables the detection of buildings observed in the 2000s, 2010s and 2020s. The addition of new buildings is a good indicator of urban development and/or sprawl. Using the same approach, GeoAI multidate roads enable the detection of Statistics Canada's National Roads Network (NRN) segments present in the 2000s, 2010s and 2020s. The development of new roads is also indicator of urban development and/or sprawl. Complementarily, an analysis of changes in the forest coverage from the GeoAI datasets is done between the 2000s and the 2020s. This analysis reflects the gains and losses between both dates.GeoAI enables temporal coverage of various areas in Canada, thus providing a useful tool for change detection and trend analysis at high resolution. While the series is still fairly new, and such examples are limited for the time being, NRCan strives to gradually increase its GeoAI data offering for both spatial and temporal coverage. For more information about the GeoAI - GeoBase Series, please visit the following link: https://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/74738ff5-5367-5958-9aee-98fffdcd1876
