Regulation of the Chief Gold Commissioner under - Section 22 of the Mineral Tenure Act: Mineral reserves - Section 21 of the Coal Act: Coal land reserves and it is the legal instrument used to prevent or restrict access to mineral, placer and coal lands.

The grid system used in Mineral Titles Online (MTO). This grid is used to determine the location of mineral and placer cell titles in B.C. The grid is designed based on the Mineral Title Online Grid Regulation. The mineral-placer grid does not show current cell availability status. The dataset is very large and cannot be downloaded for the entire province. Try selecting specific mapsheet grids or selecting by an area of interest to download in sections.

A mineral lease is a mineral claim that has been surveyed by a Canada Lands Surveyor. A mineral lease can be applied for after an exploration prospecting company has done a minimum of representation work in the claim area and if a legal survey on the claim has been recorded. This polygonal dataset represents authorized applications for a Mines Act permit known as a Permitted Mine Area (PMA). This dataset can be used in combination with the NoW point dataset which represents both applications for a Mines Act permit and issued authorizations for mining activities proposed in the application. **The regional mine PMA dataset is not complete for all mine sites in BC. Regional mine permits are issued for mineral and coal exploration activities, sand and gravel production, quarry production, and placer mining. Major mine permits are issued for producing mineral and coal mines. Permits are issued by the chief permitting officer under section 10 of the Mines Act and administered by the ministry. **Regional mines include:** * Exploration — mineral, coal, rock quarry, industrial mineral or dimension stone * Sand and gravel — aggregate, rock or natural substances used for construction purposes * Placer   Most exploration and development activities require a permit under the Mines Act. A decision marks the end of the permitting process for a NoW application.
