Businesses by Census Subdivision
The “Businesses by Census Subdivision” is derived from the Statistics Canada’s Business Register. At the request of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Statistics Canada aggregated the number of businesses per NAICS classification and employment class for each Census Subdivision. The data includes the individual occurrences of a business in each census subdivision by indicating its NAICS classification and employment class. The name, location, and any other identifying information about the businesses has been suppressed by Statistics Canada.
Industry Specialization based on Employment by Functional Economic Regions
The dataset provides information on industry specialization, industry structure and employment for Nova Scotia’s Functional Economic Regions. The data fields include: Functional Economic Region Name, North American Industry Classification (NAICS) - 4-digits; Category and Type of Industry; Location Quotient by Employment; and Level of Specialization category. Fields may be updated or change over time.
National Hydro Network - NHN - GeoBase Series
The National Hydro Network (NHN) focuses on providing a quality geometric description and a set of basic attributes describing Canada's inland surface waters. It provides geospatial digital data compliant with the NHN Standard such as lakes, reservoirs, watercourses (rivers and streams), canals, islands, drainage linear network, toponyms or geographical names, constructions and obstacles related to surface waters, etc. The best available federal and provincial data are used for its production, which is done jointly by the federal and interested provincial and territorial partners. The NHN is created from existing data at the 1:50 000 scale or better. The NHN data have a great potential for analysis, cartographic representation and display and will serve as base data in many applications. The NHN Work Unit Limits were created based on Water Survey of Canada Sub-Sub-Drainage Area.
CA FAO Forest (2019)
Satellite-based forest area consistent with FAO definitions for Canada. It is developed within the framework of Canada’s National Terrestrial Ecosystem Monitoring System (NTEMS). The forest area is based on the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) definition. The FAO definition incorporates land use, whereby trees removed by fire and harvesting for instance, remain forest as the trees will return. The included map displays the current forest cover for year as noted (i.e. 2022), plus the satellite-based temporally informed forest area where tree cover has been temporarily lost due to stand replacing disturbances (i.e., fire, harvest). For an overview of the methods, data, image processing, as well as information on accuracy assessment see Wulder et al. (2020).Open Access: Wulder, M.A., T. Hermosilla, G. Stinson, F.A. Gougeon, J.C. White, D.A. Hill, B.P. Smiley. (2020). Satellite-based time series land cover and change information to map forest area consistent with national and international reporting requirements. UTM (Universal Transverse Mercator) 1 Km Grid
Many geometrical schemes - or map projections - are used to represent the curved surface of the Earth on map sheets. Canada uses the Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) system. It is called transverse because the strips run north-south rather than east-west along the equator. This data class shows a 1 km x 1 km UTM NAD83 grid that is a standard reference index for Ontario. It includes: * Military Grid Reference * Fire Base Map identifier * Fire Base Map Block * Atlas identifier
UTM (Universal Transverse Mercator) 100 KM Grid
Many geometrical schemes - or map projections - are used to represent the curved surface of the Earth on map sheets. Canada uses the **Universal Transverse Mercator** (UTM) system. It is called transverse because the strips run north-south rather than east-west along the equator. This data class shows a 100 km x 100 km grid coordinate system based on the UTM projection using the North American Datum 83 (NAD83). It includes: * Military Grid Reference * Atlas identifier
Areas of Natural and Scientific Interest
The dataset identifies the location and types of Areas of Natural and Scientific Interest (ANSIs) that are commonly used in maps for resource management purposes. Official GEO title: ANSI
Canada's Evolving Geographical Names
This dataset is a collaborative project by Natural Resources Canada and the federal, provincial and territorial members of the Geographical Names Board of Canada, illustrating a curated selection of official geographical names in Canada that have changed over time. The selection comes from the Canadian Geographical Names Database, displaying additional information including the previous name(s) of each feature, the year and the reason why the names changed along with a short history of each name change.
Geographic Place Names Line - 50k - Canvec
Toponymic Features entity is Named Feature (geographical name or toponym). CanVec is a digital cartographic reference product of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). It originates from the best available data sources covering Canadian territory, offers quality topographical information in vector format, and complies with international geomatics standards. CanVec is a multi-source product coming mainly from the National Topographic Data Base (NTDB), the Mapping the North process conducted by the Canada Center for Mapping and Earth Observation (CCMEO), the Atlas of Canada data, the GeoBase initiative, and the data update using satellite imagery coverage (e.g. Landsat 7, Spot, Radarsat, etc.).Distributed from [GeoYukon](https://yukon.ca/geoyukon) by the [Government of Yukon](https://yukon.ca/maps) .
