Dolly Varden Harvest Monitoring Biological Data 2007-2014
Situated in the Gwich’in settlement Area (GSA), the Rat River is inhabited by anadromous Dolly Varden (Salvelinus malma malma) that are harvested by both Gwich’in and Inuvialuit beneficiaries. The harvest of Dolly Varden from the Rat River occurs during the summer at feeding areas along the coast (by the Inuvialuit) and during upstream migration in the Mackenzie Delta (by both Gwich’in and Inuvialuit). Dolly Varden stocks are co-managed under an Integrated Fisheries Management Plan (IFMP) whose signatories include Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), Gwich'in Renewable Resources Board, Fisheries Joint Management Committee, and Parks Canada Agency. The Rat River Working Group, the co-management body that makes recommendations for harvest levels for Dolly Varden stocks in the GSA, has supported research activities that facilitate implementation of the IFMP, including studies to monitor harvest levels and assess population status. Population studies (e.g., abundance estimates, biological and genetic sampling) and coastal harvest monitoring activities allow for a comprehensive assessment of this stock. The data are used to inform co-management partners on the status of Dolly Varden from the Rat River.

Dressed Weight/Whole (Round Weight) Relationships for Halokvik River Arctic Char (Cambridge Bay Region, NU)
Commercial and exploratory fisheries for Arctic Char, Salvelinus alpinus, provide significant economic opportunities for Nunavummiut in several Nunavut communities. Having an accurate understanding of the weight of the Arctic Char that are harvested is important for tracking harvest and for understanding how biological parameters may be changing over time as a result of exploitation and/or climactic and environmental changes. Unfortunately, most fish enter the processing plants as dressed (gills and viscera removed) and therefore conversion factors have to be applied to reconcile whole (round) weight from dressed weight. Here, we provide an updated conversion factor based on linear regression for Arctic Char from the Halokvik River (locally known as 30 Mile) near the community of Cambridge Bay. This conversion factor can be used moving forward as the Halokvik River continues to be commercially harvested.

Program Activity Tracking for Habitat (PATH) system
The Government of Canada continues to strive to be ever more open and transparent. This means a government that is open by default providing better digital capacity and services for Canadians.Under a modernized Fisheries Act, Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) has made available an online Fisheries Act (FA) Registry that facilitates access to data and information, including geospatial data, about projects as well as regulatory process information. The new online version of the FA Registry is now available to Canadians. The FA Registry is currently accessible through the Common Project Search Portal, a one-stop online location for Canadians to search and browse through DFO authorizations as well as projects and assessments submitted to the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada and Transport Canada.DFO will be undertaking continuous development of the Fisheries Act Registry. This release is the second step towards implementing the full FA Registry that will provide additional content as well as new features to the FA Registry, increasing transparency and proactive disclosure as well as improving digital capacity and service for Canadians.

Passamaquoddy marine resource pilot study - 1982 Fisheries
This data record contains a digitized map reproduced from the original Passamaquoddy Marine Resource Pilot Study - 1982 Fisheries. The original map was produced by the Maritime Resource Management Service, using its GEO-BASED SYSTEM: an automated geographic information system used to create data bases and to manipulate and plot information for numerous natural resource applications. The original map is a product of the GEO-BASED SYSTEM and a conventional phot mechanical process. The fisheries information was extracted from a marine data base gathered by A.C.R.I.C. on behalf of the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Parks Canada adn the New Brunswick Department of Fisheries, encompassing the Passamaquoddy region of the Bay of Fundy.Cite this data as: Maritime Resource Management Service 1982. DFO Newfoundland and Labrador Region Inshore Trap Survey - Snow Crab 2018-2025
This data is from the Newfoundland and Labrador Region Inshore Trap survey, specific to Snow Crab from 2018-25, with only successful sets included in the database. Details of annual survey coverage and an overview of the survey program can be found in Pantin et al. (2025). This trap survey follows a depth-stratified random survey design, designated by type = 1 (Survey). Data were available from DFO inshore trap surveys in Fortune Bay, St. Mary’s Bay, Conception Bay, Trinity Bay, Bonavista Bay, Notre Dame Bay, White Bay, and infrequently along the Northeast Avalon Peninsula. All surveys follow a depth-stratified survey design with set locations randomly distributed within each stratum, and stratum-specific set allocations weighted by area. All surveys utilize large-mesh (5.25”) and small-mesh (42 mm) traps intermittently placed within each ‘fleet’ of gear, with traps spaced approximately 45 m (i.e., 25 fathoms) apart. Each fleet includes six baited traps, with two additional end traps not baited. Squid (Illex spp.) hung on skivers is attached to the inner entry cone of each trap as bait, with approximately 2–3 pounds of squid on each skiver. Although soak times are intended to be standardized to 24–48 hours, weather and other factors can affect the surveys and soak times are ultimately variable. Biological sampling is conducted at-sea from all traps at each station and is described in Pantin et al. (2025). Whole weights of Snow Crab are not always taken for every crab (e.g., in poor weather, missing limbs, carapace covered in biofouling) and those without measurements are denoted by an NA in the dataset. Analyses by the DFO NL Snow Crab group apply a length-weight relationship to determine weights, which is not in this dataset. Traps that caught zero Snow Crab are denoted in the dataset by a ‘number’ of 0.References:Pantin, J., D. Mullowney, K. Baker, K. Lefort, W. Coffey, F. Cyr, H. Munro, and Koen-Alonso, M. 2025.
