Permit to Take Water
Companies or organizations who take over 50,000 litres of water/day from a lake, river, stream or groundwater source, must obtain a Permit to Take Water from the Ministry of the Environment -with a few exceptions. Permit holders are legally required to record how much water they take each day. Water Taking
Volumes of water taken daily and annually under a Permit-to-Take-Water, as reported to the ministry under the Water Taking and Transfer Regulation 387/04. The Ontario Water Resources Act (Act) requires anyone who takes more than 50,000 litres of water in a day to obtain a Permit to take Water (PTTW) with some exceptions. Under the Act, the Water Taking and Transfer Regulation requires all holders of a PTTW to report the volume of water taken at each permitted source for each day of water taking. The data includes information from the permit on the purpose of the water taking, water source types and locations, as well as the daily and annual volume of water taken from each source.
Water samples
Water sampling data includes several thematic layers. 1) Water samples authorized by the MELCCFP: This thematic layer shows the location of water sampling sites authorized in Quebec under section 22 of the Environment Quality Act (chapter Q-2) and their associated volume (liter per day). The database includes active authorizations to take water since the Water Withdrawal and Protection Regulation (RPEP) came into force on August 14, 2014.2) Water uses by municipality: The data from the game “Water Uses by Municipality” is an estimate of the volumes of water collected annually on the territory of Quebec municipalities, based on water samples or declared water uses available in various government databases.**This third party metadata element was translated using an automated translation tool (Amazon Translate).**

Province-wide SDE spatial layer displaying consumptive water licence points of diversion for drinking water systems. In the context of this layer, Drinking Water Systems means two or more water licences for domestic purposes at a single POD; and/or a water licence(s) for any other purpose indicating a water diversion and distribution system supplying water directly to residences and/or buildings for human consumption. The Non-Permit Area dataset is comprised of all the polygons that represent Non-Permit Areas in Alberta. The Non-Permit Areas are delineated areas where burning permits are not required by clients.
Ratio of surface freshwater intake to water yield, by drainage region, 2013
This product provides the ratio of surface freshwater intake to water yield for August 2013, with the exception of drainage regions 7, 8, 16, 17 and 18, which use the ratio of August intake to the long-term minimum monthly water yield. Surface freshwater intake aggregates data from the Survey of Drinking Water Plants, 2013 and the Industrial Water Use Survey, 2013 with estimates of agricultural water use for 2013 based on the Agricultural Water Use Survey and the Alberta Irrigation Information report. Data for water use by the oil and gas industry and households not supplied by a public water provider are also excluded.

If 2019/2020 dike survey project data is unavailable, linework based on previous data from 2004 and prior. Water quality in Canadian rivers – Water quality at monitoring sites
The Canadian Environmental Sustainability Indicators (CESI) program provides data and information to track Canada's performance on key environmental sustainability issues. The Water quality in Canadian rivers indicators provide a measure of the ability of river water across Canada to support plants and animals. At each monitoring site, water quality data are compared to water quality guidelines to create a rating for the site. If measured water quality is below the guidelines, it can maintain a healthy ecosystem. Water quality at a monitoring site is considered excellent when substances in a river are very rarely measured above their guidelines. Conversely, water quality is rated poor when measurements are usually above their guidelines, sometimes by a wide margin. These indicators provide information about the state of surface water quality and its change through time, to support water resource management. Information is provided to Canadians in a number of formats including: static and interactive maps, charts and graphs, HTML and CSV data tables and downloadable reports. Water Reserves - Aquifers
Province wide spatial view showing aquifers designated as a Water Reservation. These Reserves set aside water in an aquifer specifically for future treaty obligations, and are formally established through Orders in Council issued by the Lieutenant Governor in Council, as authorized under Sections 39–41 of the Water Sustainability Act.
