From August 2nd to September 9th, 2013, Fisheries and Oceans Canada conducted a baseline survey of marine fishes and their habitats on the Canadian Beaufort Shelf and slope. Sampling was conducted from the F/V Frosti at 64 stations along ten transects. Standardized sampling was conducted on the transects at pre-determined depth stations (20-40, 75, 200, 350, 500, 750, and 1000 m) using a variety of sampling equipment including benthic fishing trawls, plankton nets, sediment cores, and CTD and water sample profiles. A specialized CTD probe (UCTD) was deployed at an additional 72 locations while the ship was underway.Presented here is the information on the sampling locations, and the sampling gear deployed at each station.

Multi-Agency Ground Plot (MAGPlot) database (DB) is a pan-Canadian forest ground-plot data repository. The database synthesize forest ground plot data from various agencies, including the National Forest Inventory (NFI) and 12 Canadian jurisdictions: Alberta (AB), British Columbia (BC), Manitoba (MB), New Brunswick (NB), Newfoundland and Labrador (NL), Nova Scotia (NS), Northwest Territories (NT), Ontario (ON), Prince Edward Island (PE), Quebec (QC), Saskatchewan (SK), and Yukon Territory (YT), contributed in their original format. These datasets underwent data cleaning and quality assessment using the set of rules and standards set by the contributors and associated documentations, and were standardized, harmonized, and integrated into a single, centralized, and analysis-ready database. The primary objective of the MAGPlot project is to collate and harmonize forest ground plot data and to present the data in a findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR) format for pan-Canadian forest research. The current version includes both historical and contemporary forest ground plot data provided by data contributors. The standardized and harmonized dataset includes eight data tables (five site related and three tree measurement tables) in a relational database schema. Site-related tables contain information on geographical locations, treatments (e.g. stand tending, regeneration, and cutting), and disturbances caused by abiotic factors (e.g., weather, wildfires) or biotic factors (e.g., disease, insects, animals). Tree-related tables, on the other hand, focus on measured tree attributes, including biophysical and growth parameters (e.g., DBH, height, crown class), species, status, stem conditions (e.g., broken or dead tops), and health conditions. While most contributors provided large and small tree plot measurements, only NFI, AB, MB, and SK contributed datasets reported at regeneration plot level (e.g., stem count, regeneration species). Future versions are expected to include updated and/or new measurement records as well as additional tables and measured and compiled (e.g., tree volume and biomass) attributes. This layer is the authoritative source for locating Active Status Growth and Yield plots also known as Permanent Sample Plots (PSPs). These plots are protected and require an additional minimum windfirm buffer of 50m radius in the interior and 100m radius on the coast. These plots are generally 16m radius fixed area plots. Therefore, protected areas need to be a minimum of 66m radius around the plot centre in the interior and 116m radius on the coast. Best practices are to locate the plot centre on the ground as coordinate accuracy varies. The program now maintains partially damaged plots in order to provide critical data on how partially damaged plots grow over time. Therefore, salvage logging is NOT permitted within protected plots. Coordinates for plots with a more recent (since 2000) last measurement are generally quite accurate (3m). However, plots measured in the 1990's have a wide range of coordinate accuracy. In this spatial layer, low accuracy coordinates are buffered 300m to ensure they do not get missed from development planning.
