Pelagic Fish Trawl Survey of Lake Winnipeg
To better understand patterns of temporal and spatial variation of fish assemblages in offshore waters of Lake Winnipeg (Manitoba, Canada), pelagic trawl tows were conducted at lakewide monitoring stations since 2002. Trawl samples collected during spring, summer, and fall from the south basin, channel, and north basin were used to study effects of season and geographic region within the lake on species biomass estimates.
Margaree River and Tributaries Water Temperatures
PURPOSE:To record hourly water temperatures throughout the Margaree watershed.DESCRIPTION:The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) has been deploying water temperature monitoring equipment since spring 1993 in the Margaree River watershed. Coverage has changed throughout the time series and there is little documentation regarding equipment used. In recent years data have been collected using VEMCOs. Maritimes Spring Research Vessel Survey
The Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) ecosystem surveys consist of research vessel survey data collected to monitor the distribution and abundance of fish and invertebrates throughout the Scotian Shelf, Bay of Fundy and Georges Bank. The surveys follow a stratified random sampling design, and include sampling of fish and invertebrates using a bottom otter trawl. These survey data are the primary data source for monitoring trends in species distribution, abundance, and biological condition within the region, and also provide data to the Atlantic Zonal Monitoring Program (AZMP) for monitoring hydrographic variability. Collected data includes total catch in numbers and weights by species. Length frequency data is available for most species, as are the age, sex, maturity and weight information for a subset of the individual animals. Other data such as ageing material, genetic material, and stomach contents are often also collected, but are stored elsewhere.“Spring” cruises occur in January, February, March and April, and focus on Georges Bank (i.e. 5Z).Cite this data as: Clark, D., Emberley, J. Areas of importance for spring herring in the Magdalen Islands
This cartographic dataset of areas of importance for spring herring in the Magdalen Islands was produced by Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) and the Magdalen Islands ZIP Committee, as part of the work to characterize the Magdalen Islands Lagoons Marine Refuge. The initiative aimed to document fishermen's ecological knowledge of spring herring, including good fishing areas and spawning grounds around the archipelago.The data comes from interviews conducted between January and April 2024 with the most experienced fishermen in the archipelago. During the interviews, participants identified directly on digital maps the locations associated with four types of observations made throughout their careers: • Question 8 — Good fishing sites; • Question 9 — Other observations of high concentrations of the resource; • Question 13a — Spawning areas and; • Question 13b — Other observations of signs of spawning. To facilitate temporal contextualization, a four-period timeline (before 1996, 1996-2002, 2003-2006, and 2007-2021) was used.The final product is a GeoPackage (.gpkg) containing 16 vector layers composed of four layers per observation type, each corresponding to one of the defined time periods. The polygons were classified according to the number of fishermen who reported each location, making it possible to assess the degree of overlap and the relative importance of the areas over time. The data are projected in NAD83 / MTM zone 4.For more information on the methodology and data, see Burbank et al. (2025). Spatial Density of Cereals in Canada
This data shows spatial density of Cereals cultivation in Canada. Regions with higher calculated spatial densities represent agricultural regions of Canada in which Cereals are more expected. Results are provided as rasters with numerical values for each pixel indicating the spatial density calculated for that location. Higher spatial density values represent higher likelihood to have Cereals based on analysis of the 2009 to 2021 AAFC annual crop inventory data.Cereals consist of the following specific crop types from the AAFC annual crop inventory; Cereals, Barley (including Spring and Winter), Greenfeed / Mixed Cereals, Millet, Oats, Rye (including Spring and Winter), Spelt, Triticale (including Spring and Winter), Wheat (including Spring and Winter), and Other Cereal

Automatically Extracted Buildings
“Automatically Extracted Buildings” is a raw digital product in vector format created by NRCan. The feature classes of this product delineate polygonal building footprints automatically extracted from airborne Lidar data, high-resolution optical imagery or other sources.The first feature class, Automatically Extracted Buildings by acquisition source, contains building footprints delivered according to the spatial extent of each source dataset used for extraction. When the spatial extents of acquisition sources overlap, footprints for the same building may therefore be duplicated in this class.The second feature class, Optimized Buildings Layer, is an assembled and harmonized layer derived from the buildings by acquisition source. Its objective is to provide a unique representation of each building footprint by removing duplicates and resolving overlaps between sources.
Multidisciplinary Arctic Program (MAP)-Last Ice, 2018 Spring Campaign: Sea ice fatty acids and stable isotopes
In 2018, Fisheries and Oceans Canada initiated the Multidisciplinary Arctic Program (MAP) – Last Ice, the first ecosystem study of the poorly characterized region of Tuvaijuittuq, where multiyear ice still resides in the Arctic Ocean. The program MAP-Last Ice takes a coordinated approach to integrate the physical, biochemical, and ecological components of the sea ice-ocean connected ecosystem and its response to climate and ocean forcings. This program provides baseline ecological knowledge for Tuvaijuittuq and, in particular, for its unique multiyear ice ecosystem. The database provides baseline data on fatty acid composition and stable isotopes signatures of sea ice communities in multi- and first-year ice in Tuvaijuittuq. The data were collected during the 2018 spring field campaign of the MAP-Last Ice Program, offshore of Canadian Forces Station (CFS) Alert, in the Lincoln Sea.
