The Public Land Use Zone (PLUZ) dataset is comprised of all the polygons that represent Public Land Use Zones in Alberta. A Public Land Use Zone is an area of land to which legislative controls are applied to achieve particular land management objectives identified in a guiding land and resource plan. They can be used to protect areas containing sensitive resources such as wildlife and their habitats, vegetation, soils and watersheds as well as to separate or manage conflicting recreational activities. These areas have been designated as Public Land Use Zones, under the authority of Section 178 and 208 of the Public Lands Administration Regulation (PLAR) under the Public Lands Act. Public Land Use Zones were formerly known as Forest Land Use Zones (FLUZ) which were designated under the former Forest Recreation Regulation under the Forests Act. The Public Lands Administration Regulation came into effect on September 12, 2011. At this time, Forest Land Use Zones under the Forest Recreation Regulation were incorporated into the Public Lands Act and Public Lands Administration Regulation. As a result, Forest Land Use Zone became Public Land Use Zone.

The Public Land Recreation Area dataset is comprised of all the polygons that represent Public Land Recreation Areas in Alberta. A Public Land Recreation Area is an area of recreation land designated under the authority of Section 179 of the Public Lands Administration Regulation under the Public Lands Act. Public Land Recreation Area was formerly known as Forest Recreation Area under the Forest Recreation Regulation under the Forests Act. No changes to the Forest Recreation Area data layer were made when it was migrated to become the Public Land Recreation Area dataset.

The Lands Officer Districts dataset is comprised of all the polygons that represent the Forestry and Parks Lands Officer Districts within the Province of Alberta.

This dataset contains all the unsurveyed Yukon First Nations Interim Protected Lands. A Crown land reservation is a tool under Section 18(c) of the Public Lands Act, to identify a management intent that will inform and provide direction to potential land users and regulatory bodies as authorized under the Public Lands Act. A reservation is not a disposition, does not grant any rights to public land or rights to access or occupy public land or rights to the resources on the land or under it. The Crown Land Reservations dataset displays reservations under application or active with their associated data attributes allowing users to view and access existing or proposed reservation information that could influence their application if a proposed activity intersects. The spatial representation for a Public Sustained Yield Unit, which is an area of Crown land, usually a natural topographic unit determined by drainage areas, managed for sustained yield by the Crown through the Ministry of Forests. It includes all Crown lands within the currently established boundaries of the unit and excludes federal lands, provincial parks, experimental forest reserves, gazetted watersheds and tree farm licences. It includes Wildlife Management Areas (WMA) designated by Order in Council (OIC). Source data are from Tantalis as well as the derived product from GeoBC. Overlap between this dataset and the [__NGO Conservation Areas - Fee Simple__](https://catalogue.data.gov.bc.ca/dataset/ngo-conservation-areas-fee-simple) dataset will occur where NGO lands have been leased to the province. Discrepancies between the provincial layers and this dataset are due to differing source cadastral information. A [__Conservation Cross Reference Table__](https://catalogue.data.gov.bc.ca/dataset/db6d4e9d-aa20-4682-9e43-ad6ae52f4466) provides a link between this dataset and the NGO Conservation Areas – Fee Simple dataset. The Grazing Rental Zones is comprised of two polygons which determine which zone a grazing disposition (GRL, FGL, GRP) is in. These zones are used to apply the rental rate that grazing leases (GRL), grazing licenses (FGL) and grazing permits (GRP) pay to the government of Alberta for use of public lands. The Public Lands Modernization (Grazing Lease and Obsolete Provisions) Amendment Act came into force January 1, 2020. Under the new rental rate framework (Ministerial Order 01/2020), there are now two grazing rental rate zones based on the transition of the boreal region of the province. The North Saskatchewan River is the dividing line between the south (Zone 1) and north (Zone 2).

The Public Lands Camping Pass does not apply in the Kananaskis Conservation Pass area. The pass does not apply to: private, municipal, or federally owned lands. Provincial Parks, Wildland Provincial Parks, Provincial Recreation Areas. Wilderness Areas, Ecological Reserves, Heritage Rangelands, Natural Areas. All acts and regulations will continue to apply including the Recreation Access Regulation that applies to agricultural dispositions. The boundary represents the external boundary of the pass area.
