Areas of Natural and Scientific Interest
The dataset identifies the location and types of Areas of Natural and Scientific Interest (ANSIs) that are commonly used in maps for resource management purposes. Official GEO title: ANSI
Canada west coast topo-bathymetric digital elevation model
The joint Natural Resources Canada/Department of Fisheries and Oceans Marine Spatial Planning Program requires the highest resolution marine based bathymetric elevation data and adjacent land based topographic elevation data that are available. This digital elevation model of Canada's west coast compiles the best data available from multiple government agencies to create a regional model gridded at 10 meter spacing. The transitions between the marine and terrestrial areas are seamless creating a continuous surface of elevations for scientific research and mapping.
Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler data from the Coast of Bays, Newfoundland
The dataset includes timeseries of horizontal current speed and direction, vertical current speed, water depth, and temperature at instrument depth from Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) moorings. Data were collected as part of a multiyear effort lead by Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) to support sustainable aquaculture regulation in the Coast of Bays, an area of the south coast of Newfoundland. This dataset is the third of a series aiming to provide an oceanographic knowledge baseline of the Coast of Bays, Newfoundland. It consists of 73 ADCP timeseries varying in length from about 26 days to 235 days collected between 2009 and 2014. Analyses from this dataset were presented during a Canadian Science Advisory Secretariat (CSAS) meeting which took place in St John’s in March 2015 (http://www.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/csas-sccs/schedule-horraire/2015/03_25-26b-eng.html) and from which a Science Advisory Report (http://www.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/csas-sccs/Publications/SAR-AS/2016/2016_039-eng.html), Proceedings (http://www.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/csas-sccs/Publications/Pro-Cr/2017/2017_043-eng.html) and several research documents were published.
Conservation Reserve Regulated
Displays areas regulated as a conservation reserve in order to: * permanently protect representative ecosystems, biodiversity and significant elements of Ontario's natural and cultural heritage * provide opportunities for ecologically sustainable land uses, including traditional outdoor heritage activities and associated economic benefits * allow for scientific research and provide points of reference to support monitoring of ecological change on the broader landscape Official GEO title: Conservation Reserve Regulated
Places administered by Parks Canada
The purpose of this feature class is to show areas that are National Parks (NPs), National Park Reserves (NPRs) and National Marine Conservation Area (NMCAs). Parks Canada manages more than 43 NPs. (See: https://parks.canada.ca/voyage-travel/recherche-tous-parks-all) for a list of PCA administered parks.By using this data, it is important to understand and accept that the data is not to be used for defining boundaries. Administrative decisions should be based on legal documents and legal survey plans.Canada Lands Surveys: https://clss.nrcan-rncan.gc.ca/clss/plan/search-recherche
British Columbia Coastal Anchor Marks
The marks left in the seabed by the commercial anchoring process can be seen as linear features in high-resolution multibeam bathymetry data. These features have been digitized to polylines for individual marks and polygons for anchor scour zones for British Columbia's (BC) commercial anchorages. They are made available via the Federal Geospatial Platform (FGP) for use in a Geographical Information System (GIS). This feature dataset is complete for published BC commercial anchorages and the multibeam bathymetry data available in 2021. It does not represent features produced since the collection of each multibeam bathymetry survey nor any features infilled since. The data are intended to be used for scientific research to better understand the cumulative impacts to the seabed from commercial anchoring at a 1:5000 scale or greater.
BC Parks, Ecological Reserves, and Protected Areas
This dataset contains parks and protected areas managed for important conservation values and are dedicated for the preservation of their natural environments for the inspiration, use and enjoyment of the public. Places of special ecological importance are designated as ecological reserves for scientific research and educational purposes. Source data is Tantalis. *April 18, 2018: Prior to this date this dataset had one spatial boundary per park per survey plan that intersected the boundary of that park. This resulted in multiple identical boundaries for each park that had more than one survey plan overlapping it’s boundaries. The change aggregated the park data so that there is just one boundary per park with the plan numbers concatenated into a single column where each different plan number is separated by a comma.
Historical trace metals concentrations from sediment samples and suspended particulate matter (SPM) samples, 1976 - 1987
This dataset is a compilation of numerous data files recovered as part of a data request in 2024 from a historical archive of DFO research data. Sediment and Suspended Particulate Matter (SPM) samples were collected over more than a decade as part of Dr. Douglas Loring’s research program while working at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography (BIO). Samples were collected as part of individual and collaborative research projects, and links to the relevant primary science publications and reports are included in the data in an effort to provide context to the data, as well as describe the field and laboratory techniques used to generate the attached data.

Bathymetry of the Magdalen Islands Lagoons Marine Refuge
This bathymetric dataset of the five inland water bodies of the Magdalen Islands was produced by the Quebec Regional Science Directorate (DRS) of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) as part of the characterization of the Magdalen Islands lagoon marine refuge. The data comes from several sources, including a bathymetric LiDAR survey, satellite-derived bathymetry (SDB), acoustic surveys, and spot depth sampling conducted in inland water bodies. The final product is a 5 m resolution raster projected in NAD83 / MTM zone 4. Depths are expressed in meters and reduced to chart datum (CD). This dataset is provided for information, analysis, and research purposes and is not intended for navigation. This dataset is a derived scientific product generated through processing, interpolation, and integration conducted by a DRS research team, and it does not constitute a hydrographic product of the Canadian Hydrographic Service (CHS). The data may contain uncertainties, acquisition artifacts, or processing errors, and do not meet the hydrographic standards of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO).This dataset is provided exclusively for informational, analytical, management, and scientific research purposes. It must not be used for navigation, for operational decision‑making at sea, or for any activity where the safety of persons or property may depend on the accuracy of depth information.DFO and CHS disclaim all liability for the use, interpretation, or decisions made on the basis of this product. For more information on the methodology and an overview of the results, see the report by Grégoire et al. (2026).
