These boundaries are designated by the Lieutenant Governor in council and published as regulations which establishes the Ministry's management areas. Established by the Resource Inventory Branch, Inventory Regions are large drainages encompassing groups of small drainages also known as compartments. These were once used for planning purposes, similar to the current Planning Cells. They are now maintained in the files as reference for many administration boundaries

Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) regions were created to help manage ministry programs and resources at a regional level. Extents of the regions were originally compiled by description of: metes and bounds, topographic features, geographic township boundaries, territorial district boundaries, etc. MNR regions consist of a number of districts. This product requires the use of geographic information system (GIS) software.

This dataset is a combination of landscape unit, biogeoclimatic zone/subzone/variants and Cariboo Chilcotin Land Use Plan (CCLUP) leading group type (PineGroup or FirGroup) used to roll up seral stage assessments in the Cariboo Natural Resource Region. The Alberta Transportation Region dataset is comprised of all the polygons that represent Alberta Transportation Regions in Alberta. The Transportation Region is the first level of administrative zones established by Alberta Transportation to manage roads (primary and secondary highways) under their jurisdiction. Alberta Transportation Region is sub-divided into Alberta Transportation District.
