River Ice in Canada - Current Year
River ice roughness products from the current calendar year in selected Canadian regions that have been designated for observation, monitored by Natural Resources Canada using satellite imagery for emergency response. Coverage is not comprehensive nationwide. In order to mitigate ice jam induced floods risks, Natural Resources Canada emergency geomatics service (EGS) may be activated by Canada’s emergency management authorities. As new satellite imagery becomes available, NRCan will produce river ice roughness maps and update the dataset in near real time (4 hours). This item contains record of the river ice roughness products generated in the current year. For the complete archive, please refer to the [River Ice in Canada - Archive](https://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/5e6b40bf-299f-4e05-87c8-d10b9c8210f9) entry. The river ice product is generated and validated on a best effort basis. Various factors may affect the quality of the river ice roughness maps. Those factors include but are not limited to: environmental condition at the time of acquisition, image resolution or the limitations of the methodology used. To view a specific product, filter the data by date (UTC Date) and area of interest (AOI). Links to download specific EGS product are available in the Resources section.Disclaimer:Emergency response authorities are the primary users of these satellite-derived river ice roughness map products. These products are generated to provide analysis and emergency response situational awareness and to facilitate decision-making during major flood events. The river ice roughness products are generated rapidly and limited time is available for editing and validation. The river ice roughness products reflect the river ice surface roughness conditions at the date/time of acquisition. While efforts are made to produce high quality products, near-real time products may contain errors due to the limited time available for validation and the limited availability of ground truthing data.Limitation of Liability:Accordingly, the information contained on this website is provided on an “as is” basis and Natural Resources Canada makes no representations or warranties respecting the information, either expressed or implied, arising by law or otherwise, including but not limited to, effectiveness, completeness, accuracy or fitness for a particular purpose. NCC Rideau Canal Skateway - Ice condition
Rideau Canal Skateway - Ice condition by sectionEach winter, the NCC transforms the historic Rideau Canal into the world’s largest skating rink. The Rideau Canal Skateway winds its way through the heart of the National Capital over a total length of 7.8 km. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Rideau Canal in winter becomes a treasure that is the pride of the National Capital and a signature destination. The skating season typically runs from January to early March, but it is weather-dependent. When open, the Skateway is free and accessible 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. When the Skateway is open, ice conditions are monitored by section twice daily, at approximately 8 am and 4 pm.
Douglas-firs (Genus Pseudotsuga) in Canada2011
The raster maps depict a suite of forest attributes in 2001* and 2011 at 250 m by 250 m spatial resolution. The maps were produced using the k nearest neighbours method applied to MODIS imagery and trained from National Forest Inventory photo plot data. For detailed information about map production methods please refer to Beaudoin et al. (2018) "Tracking forest attributes across Canada between 2001 and 2011 using the k nearest neighbours mapping approach applied to MODIS imagery." Canadian Journal of Forest Research 48, 85-93. https://cfs.nrcan.gc.ca/publications?id=38979 The map datasets may be downloaded from https://nfi.nfis.org/downloads/nfi_knn2011.zip or https://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/ec9e2659-1c29-4ddb-87a2-6aced147a990 * Note: the forest composition (leading tree genus) map depicts forest attributes in 2001.How can this data be used? The resolution and accuracy of these map products are best suited for strategic-level forest reporting and informing policy and decision making at regional to national scales. As these maps also offer a coherent set of quantitative values for a large suite of forest attributes, they can be used as baseline information for modelling and in calculations such as merchantable forest volume or percentage of tree species. It is also possible to overlay these maps with other maps produced on the same pixel grid to make assessments of disturbance impacts, such as fire and harvests.

Community Road Names
The Community Roads Names dataset was created to enable road labeling for Yukon Communities. Roads in the communities are mapped and the road names are attributed to allow labeling. The only communities included in the dataset are: Whitehorse and Dawson City.Distributed from [GeoYukon](https://yukon.ca/geoyukon) by the [Government of Yukon](https://yukon.ca/maps). Lac-Mégantic accident: aerial photography by Aéro-Photo after the incident (July 10, 2013)
On July 6, a train of 72 cars, carrying 100 tons of crude oil each, exploded in Lac-Mégantic. A high-resolution aerial photograph was collected by Aéro-Photo after the train derailment. This aerial photograph was provided and georeferenced by Aéro-Photo (1961) inc. Purpose: This aerial photograph makes it possible to identify the impact radius of the accident. The image web service (WMS) is offered as an open service. However, to obtain the raw image, please contact Aéro-Photo (1961) inc.**This third party metadata element was translated using an automated translation tool (Amazon Translate).**
Integrating Gut Microbiota and Population Genomics in White Hake (Urophycis tenuis): Supporting Data
PURPOSE:The purpose of this work was to determine (1) how the population genomic structure relates to gut microbiota composition of White Hake (Urophycis tenuis), and (2) whether microbiota community variation provides complementary insights into population structure of this species in eastern Canada.DESCRIPTION:Integrating host-associated microbiota with genomic approaches offers an opportunity to better understand the multiple biological dimensions shaping population structure in marine fishes. A clear understanding of population structure and dynamics is essential for informed fisheries management and conservation decisions; however, while genomic approaches have greatly improved our ability to delineate biological populations, they provide only a partial representation of biological structure, as patterns of differentiation reflect both historical divergence and contemporary ecological conditions. Host-associated microbiota can influence population-level ecological processes by contributing functional, potentially heritable variation that shapes host phenotype and fitness. In this study, we combined genotyping-by-sequencing with 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing to examine how population genomic structure relates to gut microbiota composition and to evaluate whether microbiota community variation provides complementary insights into population structure in White Hake (Urophycis tenuis) in eastern Canada. Genomic analyses identified two populations with greater spatial overlap than previously reported. Variation partitioning revealed that host genetics explained a negligible proportion of microbiota variation compared to environmental factors and fish length, suggesting that ontogenetic shifts in habitat use and resource acquisition influence gut microbiota composition. Several taxa were differentially abundant among fish length categories used as a proxy for diet, including taxa with chitin-degrading potential such as Photobacterium and Lachnospirales, which were enriched in smaller fish known to consume a crustacean-dominated diet. Together, these results indicate that gut microbiota composition in White Hake primarily reflects ecological and life-history processes rather than host population structure. PARAMETERS COLLECTED:Environmental parameters were also collected at most sampling sites, including depth, water temperature, oxygen and salinity levels.PHYSICAL SAMPLE DETAILS:Fin samples were collected to characterize the fish genotypes. Intestine (rectum) samples were collected to study fish gut microbiome.SAMPLING METHODS:In 2022 and 2023, White Hake were sampled during Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) annual bottom trawl ecosystem monitoring surveys.USE LIMITATION:To ensure scientific integrity and appropriate use of the data, we would encourage you to contact the data custodian.
