Water Sustainability Temporary Protection Orders - Public
Temporary Protection Orders (TPOs) are ministerial orders that can be implemented to curtail water users during times of water scarcity to protect streamflow availability fish populations and the aquatic ecosystem. TPOs were implemented under Section 9 of the Fish Protection Act prior to 2016, but are now implemented under Section 86, 87 and 88 of the Water Sustainability Act. This dataset is a compilation of data hosted on TPOs to date across British Columbia and is maintained by the Watershed Stewardship and Security Branch within the Ministry of Water, Lands and Resource Stewardship. The purpose of the dataset is to communicate to water users when and where TPOs are/were in effect at the watershed scale. For specific details on which water users are affected by a TPO, please refer to the official Ministerial Order document referenced in the dataset.
Vessel Density Mapping of 2019 AIS Data in the Northwest Atlantic
The Automatic Identification System (AIS) is a global, satellite-based and terrestrial-based ship tracking system that uses shipborne equipment to remotely track vessel identification and positional information and is typically required on vessels of 300 gross tonnage or more on an international voyage, of 500 gross tonnage or more not on an international voyage, and passenger ships of all sizes. AIS tracking technologies are primarily used in support of real-time maritime domain awareness and for maritime security and safety of life at sea. This report describes a geographic information system (GIS) analysis of 2019 AIS data to produce yearly and monthly vessel density maps of all vessel classes combined and yearly density maps of each vessel class. The year 2019 was selected to portray shipping densities in a pre-COVID 19 pandemic depiction of the maritime transport sector in the Northwest Atlantic. Vessel density map applications include use in spatial analysis and decision support for marine spatial planning.
Regional Civil and Fire Safety Offices
Location of the regional civil and fire safety offices of the Ministry of Public Security (MSP).**This third party metadata element was translated using an automated translation tool (Amazon Translate).**
Utilities and Communications
UTC - Utility and communication networks (utilitiesCommunication) Energy, water and waste systems, and communications infrastructure and services. For example, resources describing hydroelectricity; geothermal, solar, and nuclear sources of energy; water purification and distribution; sewage collection and disposal; electricity and gas distribution; data communication; telecommunication; radio; and communication networks.
Ministry of Transportation (MOT) Safety Feature
A Safety Feature is one of a number of various appliances/appurtenances that have been installed or constructed either alongside or as an integral part of the road infrastructure to reduce the severity or potential of accidents. It is a Point feature
Source Protection Area Generalized
A source protection area (SPA) is an area of land and water governed by a Source Protection Authority, an agency, person or body. This dataset defines the geographic boundaries where each SPA's terms of reference, assessment reports and source protection plans must be developed. *[SPA]: source protection area
Oil and Gas Rights
The Oil and Gas Rights dataset contains the digital boundaries for existing exploration licences, significant discovery licences, production licences, former permits, former leases and the Norman Wells Proven Area. These boundaries are available for download on the Northern petroleum pesources Website at https://www.rcaanc-cirnac.gc.ca/eng/1100100036087/1538585604719.The Oil and Gas Rights dataset is Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) and Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) primary source for northern petroleum titles geographic location on maps.
TANTALIS - Crown Land Rights-of-way
TA_CROWN_RIGHTS_OF_WAY_SVW contains the spatial representation (polygon) of active and applied for Statutory Rights-of-way. Statutory rights-of-way are registerable in a Land Titles office, and are normally issued to authorize linear uses of Crown Land for transportation, communication, energy production and utility developments. They grant tenure holders right of passage for specific purposes and certainty respecting access to the land and use of improvements. They do not convey non-exclusive use - exclusivity may be granted for safety reasons. A legal survey is required to define the tenured area. The view was created to provide a simplified presentation of this single tenure type from the disposition information in the Tantalis operational system. The same content could be derived from the TA_CROWN_TENURES_SVW by filtering to this tenure type only
Caribou Range Boundary
Shows areas where the health and prevalence of caribou can be linked to the attributes of the land that supports them. Ontario's Woodland Caribou Recovery Strategy (2008) provides advice and recommendations on the approaches needed for the recovery of Woodland Caribou. The strategy recommends the identification of ranges and local populations to: * maintain existing, self-sustaining, genetically-connected local populations of caribou * ensure security for and (reproductive) connections among currently isolated mainland caribou * re-establish caribou in strategic areas to create self-sustaining local populations and ensure connectivity Instructions for downloading this dataset: * select the link below and scroll down the metadata record page until you find **Transfer Options** in the **Distribution Information** section, * select the link beside the **Data for download** label, * you must provide your name, organization and email address in order to access the dataset This product requires the use of GIS software. *[GIS]: geographic information system

Vessel density map applications include use in spatial analysis and decision support for marine spatial planning. In 2023 the process was applied to the years 2013 through to 2022 and were made available using the same processes that were applied to the original 2019 datasets.
