The Settlement dataset is comprised of all the polygons that represent Settlements in Alberta. A settlement is an area of land that was surveyed prior to the Third System of Survey and does not normally follow the ATS grid.

Surveyed Cadastral Framework for Yukon First Nations Settlement Lands and Tetlit Gwich'in Yukon Lands (settlement like) of the First Nations that have ratified their agreements. Settlement land is land identified in a First Nation's land claim agreement as settlement land of the first nation. There are three types of Settlement Land that a Yukon First Nation can own and manage: Category A: ownership of surface and subsurface; Category B: ownership of the surface only; Fee Simple (FS): private ownership. Note: Some surveys for Settlement Lands identified in their agreement are not yet complete therefore there may be parcels identified with the same land claim selection ID. The Metis Settlement is a dataset comprised of all the polygons that represent Metis Settlements lands in Alberta. Metis Settlements are lands set apart by provincial legislation for the use and benefit of the members of the eight Metis Settlements in Alberta. The legal title of these lands rests with the Metis Settlements General Council, a legislated-body that holds the fee simple interest on all Metis settlement lands, equivalent to full ownership of the land, with certain limited rights reserved for the Crown. The provincial government has primary jurisdiction over these lands and the people living on them.

Hamlets are smaller settlement areas identified in municipal official plans, generally without municipal water and sewer servicing. For precise boundaries and locations of hamlets, the appropriate municipality should be consulted.

This polygon dataset represents Crown land parcels contained within flood compensation/settlement agreements with certain Northern Affairs communities, excluding First Nations.The purpose of this dataset is to show Crown land parcels contained within flood compensation/settlement agreements with certain Northern Affairs communities, not including First Nations. The dataset includes the Grand Rapids Forebay (GRF) agreements for the Northern Affairs communities of Moose Lake and Easterville, plus recently added Cross Lake Community and Norway House Community Settlement lands. The agreements provide for lands to be held by permit and/or certificate of title in the name of a community corporation, or set aside for traditional use. Best efforts have been made to reasonably represent the parcels within the dataset as set out in the respective agreements. The mapped parcels are not removed (or regularly updated) following survey or transfer of any Crown (Manitoba) land to the community. All boundaries are to be considered approximate and for illustrative purposes only. This polygon dataset shows Crown land parcels covered by formal flood compensation and other settlement agreements with specified First Nations. It does not include Treaty Land Entitlement (TLE) sites.The purpose of this dataset is to show Crown land parcels contained within formal flood compensation and other settlement agreements with specified First Nations (does not include Treaty Land Entitlement sites). The Crown lands are intended for transfer to the Government of Canada to be set apart as Reserve land. There are different categories/types of compensation lands noted in the various settlement agreements and every agreement has different provisions. Best efforts have been taken to reasonably illustrate the parcels within the dataset as set out in the respective agreements. All boundaries are to be considered approximate and for illustrative purposes only.
