Forecasted Basin-Average Accumulated Precipitation (REPS - 72 Hrs)
This polygon layer shows the spatial distribution of forecasted accumulated precipitation across watershed sub‑basins using data derived from the Regional Ensemble Prediction System (REPS). In other words, it aggregates precipitation amounts—computed from processed REPS forecast output (converted from GRIB2 files into raster [TIF] format)—over defined watershed boundaries to provide a detailed view of expected rainfall over a typical 72‑hour forecast period. This information supports regional hydrological forecasting, flood risk analysis, and water resource management.REPS forecast data are first processed to extract the accumulated precipitation field (APCP) and converted into high‑resolution raster images. These “REPS APCP rasters” represent the spatial distribution of forecast precipitation (in millimeters) over the region. Next, using pre‑defined watershed or sub‑basin boundaries, zonal statistics are applied to compute the average precipitation for each sub‑basin. The final layer displays these averaged values as polygon features, highlighting variations in forecasted rainfall across different drainage areas. This approach helps users pinpoint regions that may receive higher or lower rainfall, thereby enhancing hydrological assessments and emergency planning.
BC Wild Mountain Sheep Registry - Distribution
A spatial representation of the general distribution of wild mountain sheep (bighorn and thinhorn sheep) in British Columbia. Populations that extend into neighbouring provinces and states are also included. The distribution polygons are divided by species into bighorn and thinhorn sheep.
3D model spatial extents, Groundwater Geoscience Program
The dataset shows the distribution and spatial extent of the 3D models that were created in the context of Canadian aquifers mapping projects from the Geological Survey of Canada.
2021 Census - Thematic maps
A thematic map shows the spatial distribution of one or more specific data themes for standard geographic areas.Thematic maps include:PopulationAgeIncomeLanguage of workInstruction in the official minority language
Natural Resource (NR) Districts
The spatial representation for a Natural Resource (NR) District, that is an administrative area established by the Ministry, within NR Regions.
Characteristics of Environmental Data Layers for Use in Species Distribution Modelling in the Maritimes Region
Species distribution models (SDMs) are tools that combine species observations of occurrence, abundance, or biomass with environmental variables to predict the distribution of a species in unsampled locations. To produce accurate predictions of occurrence, abundance or biomass distribution, a wide range of physical and/or biological variables is desirable. Such data is often collected over limited or irregular spatial scales, and require the application of geospatial techniques to produce continuous environmental surfaces that can be used for modelling at all spatial scales. Here we provide a review of 102 environmental data layers that were compiled for the entire spatial extent of Fisheries and Oceans Canada’s (DFO) Maritimes Region. Variables were obtained from a broad range of physical and biological data sources and spatially interpolated using geostatistical methods. For each variable we document the underlying data distribution, provide relevant diagnostics of the interpolation models and an assessment of model performance, and present the final standard error and interpolation surfaces. These layers have been archived in a common (raster) format at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography to facilitate future use. Based on the diagnostic summaries in this report, a subset of these variables has subsequently been used in species distribution models to predict the distribution of deep-water corals, sponges, and other significant benthic taxa in the Maritimes Region.Cite this data as: Beazley, Lindsay; Guijarro, Javier, Lirette; Camille; Wang, Zeliang; Kenchington, Ellen (2020). Drinking Water Sources (Surface Water PODs)
Province-wide SDE spatial layer displaying consumptive water licence points of diversion for drinking water systems. In the context of this layer, Drinking Water Systems means two or more water licences for domestic purposes at a single POD; and/or a water licence(s) for any other purpose indicating a water diversion and distribution system supplying water directly to residences and/or buildings for human consumption. This layer is an instantiation of the spatial view WLS_BC_POD_DRINKING_SOURCES_SVW
Geographic Township Improved
A Township is a land subdivision in Ontario. This information was captured through the Ontario Base Mapping Program, is maintained by the Ministry of Natural Resources and distributed through Geospatial Ontario (GEO) Warehouse. The spatial accuracy for some of the townships was improved through the Ontario Parcel, Township Realignment and Township Improvement projects. Improvements may include: * road allowance widths * spatial changes to better represent where the township boundaries are located * more consistent concession names Materials used to improve the location of township lines may include: * township Improvement plots * survey information i.e. retracements * original township plans * surveys notes * the physical features e.g. fence lines in the corporate editing environment * water bodies * GPS Ontario Road Network geometry This product requires the use of geographic information system (GIS) software.
School Districts of BC
The School Districts dataset contains the spatial representation (polygon) of the current extent of the administrative areas defined under section 176(1) of the School Act for the purposes of preservation and promotion of the fundamental principle of local autonomy and control of public education at the public and governmental levels through locally elected school boards.
FADM - Region Compartment
The spatial representation for an Inventory Region or Compartment. Established by the Resource Inventory Branch, Inventory Regions are large drainages encompassing groups of small drainages also known as compartments. These were once used for planning purposes, similar to the current Planning Cells. They are now maintained in the files as reference for many administration boundaries
