Provincial Fish Ranges - Generalized
This file contains a generalized representation of watersheds developed from the 1:50,000 BC Watershed Atlas with each region coded for occurrence of freshwater fish species (including anadromous salmon in their freshwater stages). The initial fish species codes for presence/absence in each watershed were derived from an GIS overlay of fish species occurrences within broadly defined fish regions for BC. This overlay of fish ranges describes the occurrences of fish species in 30 regions throughout the province. These broad species ranges were derived from McPhail and Carveth's 'Key to Freshwater Fish of BC' and refined further based on the most current expert opinion. Coding for watershed polygons based on this expert opinion was originally: 0= out of species range; 4 = core range; 5= introduced range; 6= peripheral range; 9= estuarine polygons only. A further refinement of watershed fish species coding was developed from actual observations of fish species in the lakes and rivers of British Columbia. This data comes from a number of fish inventory sources. Watersheds with known records of occurrence for each fish species were consequently recoded as such: 4, 5, 6, 9 now equal '1' if a museum record, and, 4, 5, 6, 9 now equal '2' for a less reliable record, and, 0 now equals '8'. for an out-of range record
Baseline Thematic Mapping Present Land Use Version 1 Spatial Layer
This layer represents Land use polygons as determined by a combination of analytic techniques, mostly using Landsat 5 image mosaics . BTM 1 was done on a federal satellite image base that was only accurate to about 250m. The images were geo-corrected, not ortho-corrected, so there is distortion in areas of high relief. This is not a multipart feature
STAC-Item - 2010 - 2005–2010 Medium Resolution Land Cover of Canada South of Treeline Derived from 20 m SPOT 4
The Systeme Pour l'Observation de la Terre (SPOT 4-5) satellites include four multispectral bands in the visible to shortwave infrared region at 20m spatial resolution. Five years of SPOT 4-5 data from 2005-2010 were necessary to image all of Canada under clear-sky conditions. These data were used to map 2005-2010 land cover south of treeline. This land cover product includes 16 generic classes based on plant functional type and a minimum mapping unit of 20m. Accuracy was assessed using ground truth data acquired during several field campaigns conducted with other government departments such as Parks Canada and the Geological Survey. This sample was enhanced using points interpreted in Google Earth to provide a more even spatial coverage of Canada. Overall accuracy was assessed at 71% using 1566 reference points, more than half of which were acquired in the field. When assessed using only land cover that was homogeneous within 3 by 3 pixels to account for potential geolocation errors, accuracy increased to 85% for 349 points that were biased towards easily classified classes such as water. **This third party metadata element follows the Spatio Temporal Asset Catalog (STAC) specification.**

Project Returns for North Saskatchewan and Battle River Watersheds Land Cover Dataset
This 5 class 6 m resolution land cover was created for the NSWA and BRWA in 2020-2021 using SPOT6/7 imagery from 2017 and 2018 provided by the Government of Alberta in order to assess riparian intactness for 25,272 km of shoreline in Alberta. The land cover was developed from 44 separate supervised random forest classifications of 41 different SPOT6 6m imagery tiles from 2017/2018 and was then clipped to a 50 m buffer around waterbodies of interest. The full classification is composed of 41 individual polygon files, each of which corresponds to the original SPOT tile that the classification was performed on. Details on the individual SPOT tiles is available in the accompanying report. Two data products are available from this project: Wall to Wall Land Cover (available in TIFF and FGDB formats) and Shoreline Buffer (available in TIFF format).
