Submitted effluent quality results under the Wastewater Systems Effluent Regulations effluent quality standards
The Wastewater Systems Effluent Regulations (WSER), developed under the Fisheries Act, came into force in 2012 to manage wastewater releases by systems that collect an average daily influent volume of 100 cubic metres or more. The WSER also does not apply to any wastewater system located in the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and north of the 54th parallel in the provinces of Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador. The WSER set national baseline effluent quality standards that are achievable through secondary wastewater treatment. The map below presents data regarding compliance with the WSER effluent quality standards according to their averaging period. Wastewater systems must report on either a monthly, quarterly or annual basis. The dataset also includes the carbonaceous biochemical oxygen demand (CBOD) and suspended solids (SS) results for each wastewater system. Annual reporting: This map layer shows whether or not the wastewater systems met the WSER effluent quality limit according to an annual averaging period for carbonaceous biochemical oxygen demand CBOD or suspended solids SS. Quarterly reporting: This map layer shows whether or not the wastewater systems met the WSER effluent quality standards according to a quarterly averaging period. Note that a system that meets its CBOD limit or its SS limit for more than 75% of the time is considered to be in compliance with the effluent quality standards of the WSER.Monthly reporting: This map layer shows whether or not the wastewater systems met the WSER effluent quality standards according to a monthly averaging period. Note that a system that meets its CBOD limit or its SS limit for more than 75% of the time is considered to be in compliance with the effluent quality standards of the WSER.The map is available in both ESRI REST (to use with ARC GIS) and WMS (open source) formats. For more information about the individual reporting wastewater systems, datasets are available in either CSV or XLS formats.Data from Quebec and YukonThe data for Quebec municipalities (after 2017) is provided to the department separately through the equivalency agreement that was finalized in October 2018. Beginning in 2015, the data reported for the Yukon is provided to the department separately through an equivalency agreement finalized in 2014.More information on the wastewater sector including the regulations, agreements, contacts and resource documents is available at: https://www.canada.ca/wastewater
Calanus spp. size and lipid content metrics in North Atlantic, 1977-2019
Data set covers metrics and metadata related to wild collected copepods Calanus spp. (C. hyperboreus, C. glacialis, C. finmarchicus) and Metridia longa: - body size in prosome length [PL]- dry weight [DW]- lipid content (oil sac area [OSA] and oil sac volume [OSV])Spatial coverage: North Atlantic sampling sites- Scotian Shelf (SS)- Gulf of Saint Lawrence (GSL)- Gulf of Maine-Georges Bank-Nantucket Shoals (GoM)- Newfoundland shelf (NFL)Cite this data as: Helenius LK, Head EJH, Jekielek P, Orphanides CD, Pepin P, Plourde S, Ringuette M, Walsh HJ, Runge JA, Johnson CL. Distribution of Killer Whales - Coastal Resource Information Management System (CRIMS)
Modeled data showing the likely distribution of Killer Whales. CRIMS is a legacy dataset of BC coastal resource data that was acquired in a systematic and synoptic manner from 1979 and was intermittently updated throughout the years. Resource information was collected in nine study areas using a peer-reviewed provincial Resource Information Standards Committee consisting of DFO Fishery Officers, First Nations, and other subject matter experts. There are currently no plans to update this legacy data.
Natural Resource (NR) Districts
The spatial representation for a Natural Resource (NR) District, that is an administrative area established by the Ministry, within NR Regions.
Natural Resource (NR) Areas
The spatial representation for a Natural Resource Area. An NR AREA is an amalgamation of all NR Regions within the supplied boundaries and acts as an administrative area to these regions as established by the Ministry. This dataset supersedes WHSE_ADMIN_BOUNDARIES.NRO_ADM_AREAS_SP
Distribution of Gray Whales - Coastal Resource Information Management System (CRIMS)
Modeled data showing the likely distribution of gray whales. RESULTS - Openings svw
RESULTS Openings are administrative boundaries for areas harvested with silviculture obligations or natural disturbances with intended forest management activities on Crown Land. The RESULTS openings_svw is a spatial view made up of a number of tables containing information on disturbance dates, generalized bec, forest district, opening category, opening status, previous tree species, opening gross area, average slope, average elevation, aspect, along with maximum and minimum elevation values, and many more fields.
Drinking Water Sources - Intakes/Wellheads
Point features showing the location of intakes and/or wellheads for drinking water systems. A drinking water system is any domestic system servicing anything other than a single-family dwelling, as defined in the Drinking Water Protection Act. These locations are updated as more information is received and is therefore continually being updated and may or may not match the corresponding Point of Diversion locations available through the Water Rights dataset and application. This is one of three Drinking Water Sources datasets (along with the DWS - Source Areas polygons dataset, and DWS - Protection Zones polygons dataset). Note: the polygons all have unique polygon IDs used to relate them to these points.
Natural Resource (NR) Regions
The spatial representation for a Natural Resource (NR) Region, that is an administrative area established by the Ministry, within NR Areas. These boundaries are designated by the Lieutenant Governor in council and published as regulations which establishes the Ministry's management areas. This dataset supersedes WHSE_ADMIN_BOUNDARIES.FADM_REGION
Distribution of Harbour Seals - Coastal Resource Information Management System (CRIMS)
Modeled data showing the likely distribution of harbour seals. Resource information was collected in nine study areas using a peer-reviewed provincial Resource Information Standards Committee consisting of DFO Fishery Officers, First Nations, and other subject matter experts.
