Rock Samples Index
Location of rock samples collected during Precambrian mapping projects more recent than 1985 in northern Saskatchewan and stored at the Subsurface Laboratory.Location of rock samples collected during Precambrian mapping projects more recent than 1985 in northern Saskatchewan and stored at the Subsurface Laboratory. This is an on-going compilation so not all map projects are present. The data was created as a file geodatabase feature class and output for public distribution. **Please Note – All published Saskatchewan Geological Survey datasets, including those available through the Saskatchewan Mining and Petroleum GeoAtlas, are sourced from the Enterprise GIS Data Warehouse. They are therefore identical and share the same refresh schedule.
Waste Management Attenuation Zone
A "contaminant attenuation zone" is a three-dimensional zone that is, * located on land adjacent to a landfilling site, * in the subservice or extends into the subsurface, and * is used or is intended to be used for the attenuation of contaminants from the landfilling site to levels that will not have an unacceptable impact beyond the boundary of the zone. This product requires the use of geographic information system (GIS) software.
Soil Survey Project Boundaries
Soil Survey Project Boundaries (soil mapping study areas) contains the soil survey project area and attributes describing each project (project level metadata), plus links to the locations of other data associated with the project (e.g., soil survey reports, polygon datasets, plotfiles, scanned maps, legends). Soil Mapping divides the landscape into units according to soil association, name, type, drainage, parent material, and texture. This layer is derived from the STE_TEI_PROJECT_BOUNDARIES_SP layer by filtering on the PROJECT_TYPE attribute. Project types include: SOIL, TIMSOI, and SOILSW. Current version: v11 (published on 2024-10-03) Previous versions: v10 (published on 2023-11-14), v9 (published on 2023-03-01), v8 (published on 2016-09-01) The Soil Survey dataset contains project boundaries as well as the soil survey polygons which are available in a variety of formats including: 1) via the [Soil Information Finder Tool](http://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/environment/air-land-water/land/soil-information-finder) Mapping App (interactive app), 2) [Soil Survey Spatial data](https://catalogue.data.gov.bc.ca/dataset/soil-survey-spatial-view) with [Soil Name and Layer Files](https://catalogue.data.gov.bc.ca/dataset/soil-name-and-layer-files) (for download or viewing via iMapBC), or as 3) [Soil Mapping Data Packages](http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/esd/distdata/ecosystems/Soil_Data/Soil_Data_Pkgs/) with geodatabase or shape files, and a data dictionary.
Ground Water Aquifers
Polygon features represent developed ground water aquifers in BC (that have been mapped). Most aquifer boundaries are delineated based on geology, hydrology and topographic information. Some aquifer boundaries stop at the border of BC mapsheet boundaries due to resource or data constraints at the time of mapping.
Land Cover - 250k - Canvec
Land Features entities are: Island, Shoreline, Wooded Area, Saturated soil, Landform Feature (esker, sand\...), and Cut Line. CanVec is a digital cartographic reference product of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). It originates from the best available data sources covering Canadian territory, offers quality topographical information in vector format, and complies with international geomatics standards. CanVec is a multi-source product coming mainly from the National Topographic Data Base (NTDB), the Mapping the North process conducted by the Canada Center for Mapping and Earth Observation (CCMEO), the Atlas of Canada data, the GeoBase initiative, and the data update using satellite imagery coverage (e.g. Landsat 7, Spot, Radarsat, etc.).Distributed from [GeoYukon](https://yukon.ca/geoyukon) by the [Government of Yukon](https://yukon.ca/maps) . Baseline Thematic Mapping Present Land Use Version 1 Spatial Layer
This layer represents Land use polygons as determined by a combination of analytic techniques, mostly using Landsat 5 image mosaics . BTM 1 was done on a federal satellite image base that was only accurate to about 250m. The images were geo-corrected, not ortho-corrected, so there is distortion in areas of high relief. This is not a multipart feature
Surficial Geology 1M Point Landforms
This dataset shows the surficial geology points for the Province of Saskatchewan and is designed for the Resource Map of Saskatchewan. This dataset shows the surficial geology points for the Province of Saskatchewan and is designed for the Resource Map of Saskatchewan. Mapping in support of the dataset includes years of field observations which were then compiled and integrated into this dataset. The data was created as a file geodatabase feature class and output for public distribution. 1:1,000,000 scale surficial geology points map of Saskatchewan symbol layer. **Please Note – All published Saskatchewan Geological Survey datasets, including those available through the Saskatchewan Mining and Petroleum GeoAtlas, are sourced from the Enterprise GIS Data Warehouse. They are therefore identical and share the same refresh schedule.
Bedrock Geology
This layer contains polygon features that represent geological units in New Brunswick. The associated Bedrock Geology Relate Table contains details about each map unit, including: a brief legend description, Group name, Formation name, and rock age. This layer is the result of nearly 50 years of bedrock mapping and it continues to change as new interpretations are made and more data is collected through field work and analysis.
Southern Ontario Surficial 3D Model
To support improved groundwater geoscience knowledge for southern Ontario, a regional 3-D model of the surficial geology of southern Ontario has been developed as a part of a collaboration between the Ontario Geological Survey and the Geological Survey of Canada. Covering approximately 66,870 km2 in area, the model is a synthesis of existing geological models, surficial geology mapping, and subsurface data. The model is a simplified 9-layer reclassification of numerous mapped local surficial sediment formations in places over 200 m thick with a total volume of approximately 2,455 km3. The model integrates 1:50,000 scale surficial geology mapping with 90 m bathymetrically corrected topographic digital elevation model (DEM) and 8 existing local 3-D models. Archival subsurface data include 10,237 geotechnical and stratigraphic boreholes, 3,312 picks from geophysical surveys, 15,902 field mapping sites and sections, 537 monitoring and water supply wells and 282,995 water well records. Roughly corresponding to regional aquifer and aquitard layers, primary model layers are (from oldest to youngest): Bedrock, Basal Aquifer, Lower Sediment, Regional Till, Post Regional Till Channel Fill, Glaciofluvial Sediment, Post Regional Till Mud, Glaciolacustrine Sand and Recent Sediment / Organics. Modelling was completed using an implicit modelling application (LeapFrog®) complemented by an expert knowledge approach to data classification and rules-based Expert System procedure for data interpretation and validation. An iterative cycle of automated data coding, intermediate model construction and manual data corrections, expert evaluations, and revisions lead to the final 3-D model. A semi-quantitative confidence assessment has been made for each model layer surface based on data quality, distribution and density. This surficial geology model completes the development of a series of regional 3-D geological and hydrogeological models for southern Ontario.
