The MODIS Surface Albedo and Surface Reflectance Dataset (or simply Albedo) includes times series of 10-day composite products derived at 250-m spatial resolution over Canadian territory and neighboring areas produced at the Canada Centre for Remote Sensing (CCRS) since February 2000.The datasets contain spectral and broadband reflectance’s and albedo for MODIS bands B1-B7 designed primarily for land applications. The imagery for all spectral bands was downscaled and re-projected into the Lambert Conformal Conic (LCC) projection at 250-m spatial resolution. The area size is 5,700 km × 4,800 km. The specialized MODIS processing system was developed at CCRS to fully utilize the high quality of MODIS L2 swath imagery over the northern latitudes. As such, the CCRS Albedo product is different from the standard NASA product. The MODIS surface albedo dataset was produced by the Canada Center for Remote Sensing (CCRS), Natural Resources Canada. The dataset represents the solar shortwave broadband surface albedo and it is at a 10-day interval covering the entire Canadian landmass as well as northern USA, Alaska, and the Greenland. The dataset was derived from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) onboard the TERRA satellite which provides a global coverage every 1-2 days in 36 spectral bands ranging from visible to infrared and to thermal wavelengths between 405 and 14,385 nm, and was available since 2000. For the estimation of surface albedo, the first seven spectral bands of B1 to B7 ranging from 459 nm to 2155 nm were used. B1 and B2 have a 250 meter resolution and B3 to B7 have a 500 meter resolution. A downscaling method using a regression and normalization scheme was employed to downscale the bands B3 to B7 to 250 meter resolution while preserving radiometric properties of the original data. To obtain clear-sky observations from MODIS, composite images for a 10 day period were generated by using a series of advanced algorithms (Luo et al., 2008). The 10-day composites of B1-B7 reflectance were then used to retrieve spatially continuous spectral albedo by using a combined land/snow BRDF (Bi-directional Reflectance Distribution Function) model. In that method, the modified RossThick-LiSparse BRDF model (Maignan et al., 2004) for land and Kokhanovsky and Zege’s model (2004) for snow are linearly combined for mixed surface conditions. They are weighted by snow fraction (0.0 ~ 1.0). The seven spectral albedo were then converted into the shortwave broadband surface albedo using the empirical MODIS polynomial conversion equation of Liang et al. (1999). The data product is in LCC (Lambert Conformal Conic) projection with a 250m pixel resolution. There are 36 albedo images per year. A dataset representing the pixel state (e.g. cloud/shadow, snow/ice, water, land, et al.) was also generated for each 10-day corresponding to the surface albedo product. References: Kokhanovsky, A. It provides surface material codes and their English and French language descriptions as well as information about the percentage of the polygon that the component occupies. Surface material includes the abiotic material at the earth's surface. The materials can be: ICE and SNOW - Glacial ice and permanent snow ORGANIC SOIL - Contains more than 30% organic matter as measured by weight ROCK - Rock undifferentiated MINERAL SOIL - Predominantly mineral particles: contains less than 30% organic matter as measured by weight URBAN - Urban areas. Note that only a few major urban area polygons are included on SLC source maps, therefore, do not use for tabulating total urban coverage

Mean 2013 to 2022 summer surface conditions in the Estuary and Gulf of St. Lawrence. Data come from the August and the September multidisciplinary surveys. Surface conditions are described by temperature, salinity and nutrient concentration (mmol/m³) interpolated on a 10 km x 10 km grid.PurposeSince 1990, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans has been conducting an annual multidisciplinary survey in the Estuary and northern Gulf of St. Lawrence using a standardized protocol. In the southern Gulf of St. Lawrence, these bottom trawl surveys has been carrying out each September since 1971. These missions are an important source of information about the status of the marine ressources.The objectives of the surveys are multiple: to estimate the abundance and biomass of groundfish and invertebrates, to identify the spatial distribution and biological characteristics of these species, to monitor the biodiversity of the Estuary and Gulf and finally, to describe the environmental conditions observed in the area at the moment of the sampling.The southern Gulf surveys are realized using the following standardized protocol:Hurlbut,T. and D.Clay (eds) 1990. This data series represents the volumetric soil moisture (percent saturated soil) for the surface layer (<5 cm). The data is created daily and is averaged for the ISO standard week and month. The data is produced from passive microwave satellite data collected by the Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) satellite and converted to soil moisture using version 6.20 of the SMOS soil moisture processor.The data are produced by the European Space Agency and obtained under a Category 1 proposal for Level 2 soil moisture data. The data are gridded to a resolution of 0.25 degrees. Data quality flags have been applied to remove areas where rainfall is present during the acquisition, where snow cover is detected and when Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) is above an acceptable threshold.

This dataset includes fifteen GeoTIFFs of Sea Surface Temperature (SST) organized into five distinct marine regions along Canada's Pacific coast, derived from Sentinel 3 satellite data for the period of April-September 2017. For each region, three GeoTIFFs are provided which represent the mean, maximum, and standard deviation values of SST (degrees Celcius). Jupyter notebooks with Python code used for data downloading and processing are also included for reference.The primary objective of this dataset is to provide detailed, regional spatial information on SST for key areas of Canada's Pacific coast, including the nearshore environment. The data can be used for various applications including species distribution modelling.This dataset is intended to fill the knowledge gap by providing high-resolution, spatially explicit regional SST data for Canada's Pacific coast. Existing datasets may not provide sufficient spatial resolution or may not include comprehensive statistical measures (mean, max, standard deviation) of SST for these specific areas.The dataset is structured by region. For each of the five regions, a set of three related GeoTIFFs is provided, representing the mean, max, and standard deviation of SST. Within each regional set, the three layers share the same spatial reference system, resolution, and extent, making them suitable for direct use in analytical stacks (e.g., for species distribution models).The Sentinel-3 satellites, part of the European Union's Copernicus Programme, are equipped with the Sea and Land Surface Temperature Radiometer (SLSTR) which measures SST among other parameters. The SST data products in this dataset are derived from Sentinel-3 satellite data.The intent of the data is to represent the marine environment and so a mask that excludes land was applied during data download and extraction. The SST data products have been resampled using a bilinear interpolation from their native resolution to a 20 m resolution to provide more detailed spatial information.
