Northeast BC VRI Old Forest [BCOGC-182627]
The Northeast BC VRI Old Forest (NEBC_VRI_OLD_FOREST_PY) is a value-added product derived from the 2023 vintage of the annually updated Forest Vegetation Composite Polygons and Rank1 Layer (VRI) that represents forest stands 140 years and older. This data was originally published in the [BC Energy Regulator (BCER) Data Centre](https://www.bc-er.ca/data-reports/data-centre/) and listed in the BC Data Catalogue with permission from BCER on "as is" basis. Available for download/access through the [BC Energy Regulator (BCER) Open Data Portal](https://data-bc-er.opendata.arcgis.com/datasets/3a6629d370944e56a5a250f15d723e52_1/about) as CSV, Shapefile, GeoJSON, KML, File Geodatabase, Feature Service.
Great Bear Rainforest - Landscape Reserve Design
This layer contains current Landscape Reserve Design (LRD) polygons associated the Great Bear Rainforest. The spatial data layer excludes sensitive information and is publicly viewable and downloadable. This data represents legally established and spatially defined LRD areas and are designed to meet Great Bear Rainforest requirements for Old Forest representation, Indigenous features and resources, wildlife values, and rare and endangered ecosystems that are identified during landscape unit planning or operational planning processes. Forest licensees are required to implement Ecosystem Based Management during operational planning processes to concurrently maintain ecosystem integrity and improve human well-being. This spatial view displays the current legal polygons, with more to be added as LRDs are established. This data is viewable in iMapBC by adding this layer name: ***Landscape Reserve Design – GBRO - legal***.
VRI - 2025 - Forest Vegetation Composite Rank 1 Layer (R1)
Geospatial forest inventory dataset updated for depletions, such as harvesting, and projected annually for growth. Sample attributes in this dataset include: age, species, volume, height. The Vegetation Resources Inventory (VRI) spatial datasets describe both where a vegetation resource (ie timber volume, tree species) is located and how much of a given resource is within an inventory unit. Forest Inventory Ground Plots - Public Access
The Forest Analysis and Inventory Branch (FAIB) is responsible for coordinating and managing data collection and analyses from a range of different ground sampling programs that collect data on ground plots. This layer shows ground plots from the PSP and VRI programs. **Vegetation Resource Inventory (VRI):** ground samples primarily used to audit and verify key inventory attributes estimated during photo interpretation. These samples are not protected because they will not be revisited. **Permanent Sample Plots (PSP):** subjectively located fixed-area permanent plots, valued for their long-term re-measurement data to support development of growth-and-yield models in unmanaged stands across a range of stand and ecosystem types. Actual GPS coordinates are provided as protection is necessary. - Active PSPs = plot and buffer are protected from harvesting - Inactive PSPs = not protected from harvesting
Manitoba Provincial Forests – Version 6
Manitoba's Provincial Forest Boundaries (version 6): There are currently 15 provincial forests totalling almost 22,000 km2. Attributes include the name of the provincial forest, the year it was established and its area. Detailed descriptions of Manitoba’s provincial forests are provided in the Provincial Forest Act Regulations.Manitoba's Provincial Forest B oundaries ( V ersion 6 ). Manitoba's provincial forests reserve certain areas in the province for perpetual growth of timber, preserve the forest cover thereon and provide for a reasonable use of all the resources that the forest lands contain. All Crown lands within a provincial forest are withdrawn from disposition, sale, settlement or occupancy, except under authority of the Forest Act . Before the Province of Manitoba was established, European settlers were promised 160 acres of free land if they lived on it and cleared it for agriculture. As a result, farms began replacing our southern forests. The federal government decided they must retain some forests for building material. In 1885 , they established Turtle Mountain, Spruce Woods and Riding Mountain (now a national park) as timber reserves. Duck Mountain and Porcupine Mountain followed in 1906. What started out as federal timber reserves 100 years ago have become our provincial forests of today. Manitoba has 15 provincial forests , totalling almost 22,000 sq. km . These forests are among the highest quality timber stands in the province. Today, our provincial forests are much more than reserves for timber. They are also places for wildlife, recreation and research. Control of Manitoba's forests was transferred from the federal to the provincial governments in 1930. Provincial forests are Crown lands owned by the people of Manitoba. The feature class name (BDY_MB_PROV_FOREST_PY) components include: 1. ISO 19115 Topic Category Name (BDY for boundary); 2. Location code (MB for Manitoba); 3. Intuitive or descriptive name (PROV_FOREST); 4. Data/geometry type (PY for polygon); 5. Version number (v 6 ).Manitoba's provincial forests include Agassiz Provincial Forest, Belair Provincial Forest, Brightstone Sand Hills Provincial Forest, Cat Hills Provincial Forest, Cormorant Provincial Forest, Duck Mountain, Moose Creek Provincial Forest, Northwest Angle Provincial Forest, Porcupine Provincial Forest, Sandilands Provincial Forest, Spruce Woods Provincial Forest, Swan-Pelican Provincial Forest, Turtle Mountain Provincial Forest, Wampum Provincial Forest, and Whiteshell Provincial Forest.Detailed descriptions of Manitoba’s Provincial Forests are provided in the Provincial Forest Act Regulations. The dataset includes the following fields : Name / Nom Alias Description PROV_FOREST_ID Provincial Forest ID / No de la forêt provinciale Provincial Forest identifier Identificateur de la forêt provinciale PROV_FOREST_NAME Provincial Forest Name Provincial Forest name -- NOM_FORET_PROV Nom de la forêt provinciale -- Nom de la forêt provinciale ESTABLISHED Year Established / Année d’établissement The year that the provincial forest was established L’année où la forêt provinciale a été établie AREA_HA Area / Surface (Hectares) Area in hectares La surface en hectares

Seral Stage Assessment for the Cariboo Region
Seral stage assessment for the Cariboo Region to support the [Cariboo Chilcotin Land Use Plan (CCLUP)](https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/industry/crown-land-water/land-use-planning/regions/cariboo/cariboochilcotin-rlup). This assessment is based on [Vegetated Resource Information (VRI)](https://catalogue.data.gov.bc.ca/dataset/6ba30649-14cd-44ad-a11f-794feed39f40) data, and uses the CCLUP [Productive Forest Land Base](https://catalogue.data.gov.bc.ca/dataset/0cfa7f53-272d-47d4-83df-95b4edd75460) as the assessment landbase. Last updated 2026-02-06, based on 2024 VRI (Vegetation Resource Inventory) data. Spatial data and PDF reports and for this and previous seral stage assessments are available for download under "Data and Resources" on the right side of this page. Use the **BC Geographic Warehouse Custom Download** link to download the most recent seral stage assessment data. Web map service and KML files of the most recent seral stage assessment are also available through links on the right. Previous assessments are listed by year; spatial data is available in zipped fgdb format for these.

BC Wildfire Fire Perimeters - Current
Wildfire perimeters for the current fire season, including both active and inactive fires, supplied from various sources. The data is refreshed from operational systems every 15 min. These perimeters are rolled over to Historical Fire Polygons on April 1 of each year Wildfire data may not reflect the most current fire situation, and therefore should only be used for reference purposes. Wildfire data is refreshed when practicable and individual fire update frequency will vary. The information is intended for general purposes only and should not be relied on as accurate because fires are dynamic and circumstances may change quickly.
