Agri-Environmental Indicator – Risk of Water Contamination by Pesticides
The Agri-Environmental Indicator Risk of Water Contamination by Pesticides dataset reports the annual and semi-decadal status of pesticide transport to surface water, the concentration of pesticide in ground water, and the risk of water contamination by pesticide. Products in this data series present results for predefined areas as defined by the Soil Landscapes of Canada (SLC v.3.2) data series, uniquely identified by SOIL_LANDSCAPE_ID values.
Agri-Environmental Indicator – Risk of Water Contamination by Nitrogen
The Indicator of Risk of Water Contamination by nitrogen (IROWC-N) estimates the risk of water contamination by nitrogen leaching on agricultural lands in Canada from 1981 to 2021. High nitrate level ( > 10 mg N/L) in drinking water may lead to various health impacts including methemoglobinemia (blue baby syndrome) and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. High nitrate levels in surface waters can also contribute to algal growth and eutrophication.
Shellfish Water Classification Program – Marine Water Quality Data in British Columbia
This dataset provides marine bacteriological water quality data for bivalve shellfish harvest areas in British Columbia, Canada. Shellfish harvest area water temperature and salinity data are also provided as adjuncts to the interpretation of fecal coliform density data. The latter is the indicator of fecal matter contamination monitored annually by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) within the framework of the Canadian Shellfish Sanitation Program (CSSP). The geospatial positions of the sampling sites are also provided. These data are collected by ECCC for the purpose of making recommendations on the classification of shellfish harvest area waters. ECCC recommendations are reviewed and adopted by Regional Interdepartmental Shellfish Committees prior to regulatory implementation by Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO).This dataset is 'Deprecated'. Agri-Environmental Indicator – Risk of Water Contamination by Coliforms
The Agri-Environmental Indicator Risk of Water Contamination by Coliforms provides two variables including the Soil Coliform Load and the Coliform Risk to Water. The Soil Coliform Load indicator is the estimated accumulation of coliforms on the soil and the Coliform Risk to Water indicator is the relative risk of coliforms getting into the waterways.Products in this data series present results for predefined areas as defined by the Soil Landscapes of Canada (SLC v.3.2) data series, uniquely identified by SOIL_LANDSCAPE_ID values.

Long Term Water Chemistry
Digitization of long-term water chemistry data collected between 1920's - 1990's from lakes across Saskatchewan by the Saskatchewan Fisheries Research Laboratory. Samples were collected using methods from the Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater (APHA, AWWA and WPCF). This data serves as a baseline for water quality. This dataset is a digitization from paper records of water chemistry data across Saskatchewan collected by the Saskatchewan Fisheries Research Laboratory. Data ranges from the 1920's to the 1990's and were sampled using methodes from the Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater (American Public Health Association, American Water Works Association and Water Pollution Control Facility) This long-term water chemistry data serves as a baseline for water quality. Different variables of water chemistry are organized into individual fields. The units of measurement appear at the end of each field name. Due to the historical nature of the data some uncertainty exist in values. Additonal notes on data: ND: no detection Trace: trace amounts Nil: zero NA: no data
Water samples
Water sampling data includes several thematic layers. 1) Water samples authorized by the MELCCFP: This thematic layer shows the location of water sampling sites authorized in Quebec under section 22 of the Environment Quality Act (chapter Q-2) and their associated volume (liter per day). The database includes active authorizations to take water since the Water Withdrawal and Protection Regulation (RPEP) came into force on August 14, 2014.2) Water uses by municipality: The data from the game “Water Uses by Municipality” is an estimate of the volumes of water collected annually on the territory of Quebec municipalities, based on water samples or declared water uses available in various government databases.**This third party metadata element was translated using an automated translation tool (Amazon Translate).**
Aquifer Vulnerability Index
The Aquifer Vulnerability Index (AVI) is a method of assessing the vulnerability of aquifers to surface contaminants in Alberta. An aquifer is a geological formation that is permeable enough to transmit sufficient quantities of water to possible to support the development of water wells. In the assessment of aquifer vulnerability to potential contamination, the depth to the aquifer and the types of geological materials above them are considered. For example, aquifers closer to the surface overlain with pervious surface materials are more vulnerable to contaminants, as compared to aquifers found deeper and covered with a thick layer of impervious material. The AVI ratings indicate the potential of surficial materials to transmit water withy contaminants to the aquifer over a period of time. This data was created in 2002 using ArcGIS.
