Wildlife Management Units are used for a number of wildlife management purposes, like indicating the areas of Ontario where hunting open seasons and harvest quotas apply. Wildlife Management Unit boundaries are regulated under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act - Ontario Regulation 663/98, Part 6 as amended.

The dataset contains approved legal boundaries for wildlife habitat areas and specified areas for species at risk and regionally important wildlife. The wildlife values area and site datasets represent the consolidation of 13 wildlife data classes collected by the Ministry of Natural Resources. Amalgamations of Wildlife Management Units which share similar ecological characteristics and hunter harvest patterns, and thus provide a suitable geographical framework for implementing population management strategies

The Provincial Sanctuary - Corridor Wildlife dataset is comprised of all the polygons that represent the Provincial Sanctuary - Corridor Wildlife areas in Alberta. Provincial Sanctuary - Corridor Wildlife is area designated for the protection of wildlife within 400 yards corridors of various road centre-lines.

The purpose of this dataset is to give an accurate representation of the boundaries of lands closed to hunting in Manitoba.The purpose of this dataset is to give an accurate representation of the boundaries of lands closed to hunting in Manitoba. These are defined as lands where hunting and trapping are either prohibited, or special restrictions are in place for certain species and areas are defined within the General Hunting Regulation (351/87), Moose Conservation Closure Regulation (122/2011), Hunting Seasons and Bag Limits Regulation (165/91), and Trapping of Wild Animals Regulation (245/90) of The Wildlife Act (C.C.S.M c. W130). Hunting and trapping prohibitions or restrictions are implemented in certain areas to ensure the conservation of species or enhance public safety. The Wildlife Refuge feature class provides the geographical boundaries (polygons) of New Brunswick's Wildlife Refuges and Wildlife Management Areas. Most of these entities were established in the mid 1900s for the management of wildlife species that were hunted, trapped or snared by providing areas where hunting, trapping or snaring could be prohibited or restricted. Some areas were included because they were recognized tourist destinations (Acadian Village and Kings Landing Wildlife Management Areas) or other areas designated for "protection". The Wildlife Management Unit (WMU) dataset is comprised of all the polygons that represent the Wildlife Management Units in Alberta. WMU is an area of wildlife managed under Wildlife Act, Alberta Regulation 143/79.
