High-resolution wetland year count for Canada (1984-2016)
The wetland year count data included in this product is national in scope (entire forested ecosystem) and represents a wall to wall wetland characterization for 1984-2016 (Wulder et al. 2018). It is developed within the framework of Canada’s National Terrestrial Ecosystem Monitoring System (NTEMS). This product was generated using both annual gap free composite reflectance images and annual forest change maps following the Virtual Land Cover Engine (VLCE) process (see Hermosilla et al. 2018), over the 650 million ha forested ecosystems of Canada. Elements of the VLCE classification approach are inclusion of disturbance information in the processes as well as ensuring class transitions over time are logical. Further, a Hidden Markov Model is implemented to assess individual year class likelihoods to reduce variability and possible noise in year-on-year class assignments (for instances when class likelihoods are similar). The values can range from 0 to 33 denoting the number of years between 1984 and 2016 that a pixel was classified as wetland or wetland-treed in the VLCE data cube. For an overview on the data, image processing, and time series change detection methods applied, as well as information on independent accuracy assessment of the data, see Hermosilla et al. (2016; http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/17538947.2016.1187673). A detailed description of the VLCE process and the subsequently generated land cover product, including an accuracy assessment, please see Hermosilla et al. (2018). The focused wetland analyses can be found described in Wulder et al (2018).Geographic extent: Canada's forested ecosystems (~ 650 Mha)Time period: 1985–2011

CA Forest Wildfire (1985-2022)
Wildfire change year 1985-2022.Wildfire changes occurred from 1985 to 2022 displaying the year of greatest wildfire disturbance. It is developed within the framework of Canada’s National Terrestrial Ecosystem Monitoring System (NTEMS). The information outcomes represent 38 years of wildfires in Canada's forests, derived from a single, consistent, spatially explicit data source in a fully automated manner. Time series of Landsat data with 30 m spatial resolution were used to characterize national trends in stand replacing forest disturbances caused by wildfire for the period 1985-2022 for Canada's 650-million-hectare forested ecosystems. When using this data, please cite as: Hermosilla, T., M.A. Wulder, J.C. Ratio of new immigrant arrivals (2001 – 2016) to older immigrant arrivals (before 2001) by census division, 2016
This service shows the ratio of immigrants who arrived between 2001 and 2016 to immigrants who arrived before 2001, by 2016 census division. The data is a custom extraction from the 2016 Census - 25% sample data. This data pertains to persons in private households who are immigrants by their period of immigration. 'Immigrant' includes persons who are, or who have ever been, landed immigrants or permanent residents. Such persons have been granted the right to live in Canada permanently by immigration authorities. Immigrants who have obtained Canadian citizenship by naturalization are included in this category. In the 2016 Census of Population, 'Immigrant' includes immigrants who landed in Canada on or prior to May 10, 2016. 'Period of immigration' refers to the period in which the immigrant first obtained landed immigrant or permanent resident status. For additional information refer to the 2016 Census Dictionary for 'Immigrant status' and 'Period of immigration'.For additional information refer to the 2016 Census Dictionary for 'Immigrant status' and 'Period of immigration'.To have a cartographic representation of the ecumene with this socio-economic indicator, it is recommended to add as the first layer, the “NRCan - 2016 population ecumene by census division” web service, accessible in the data resources section below.

DFO Gridded Commercial Fishing Data - Various Years
These datasets show the general spatial distribution of commercial fishing harvest and landed values by fishery on a 1km x 1km planning grid. They aggregate key statistics around fleet specific fishing activity and catch in British Columbia (BC) within the exclusive economic zone (EEZ). These gridded data describe the annual average landed weight (Rounded KGs), and landed catch values (CAD $2016) of the subject fishery over the period. The data represented were created from logbook records and matched to prices from fish slips submitted to DFO by participants of BC’s commercial fishing fleets. The dataset is comprised of an aggregate of all species over 10, 9, or 5 years of fishing seasons, depending on the fishery. To preserve potentially proprietary information, a privacy filtering Rule of Five has been applied to each planning unit (each 1km x 1km planning unit). If any planning units do not meet this minimum of 5 unique vessels/unique identifiers during the time span then they are flagged as being filtered and an average of all filtered planning units is applied. The accompanying GeoDB contains two data layers, “all_fisheries_filtered_gridded “, which includes all of the commercial fisheries data in 1km x 1km grids, and “DFO_marine_bioregions_NSB_subregions”, which includes polygon feature boundaries for the federal marine bioregions and Northern Shelf bioregion sub-regions.This dataset contains data for the following fisheries:- Bottom trawl (2012-2016)- Midwater trawl (2012-2016)- Shrimp by trawl (2007-2016)- Prawn trap (2007-2016)- Rockfish (2012-2016)- Sablefish (2007-2016)- Halibut (2007-2016)- Combo trips - halibut/sablefish (2007-2016)- Lingcod (2007-2016)- Green sea urchin (2006-2015)- Red sea urchin (2007-2015)- Sea cucumber (2008-2016)- Geoduck (2007-2015)
