DESCRIPTION:The yearly spawning stock biomass estimates of southern Gulf of St. Lawrence Atlantic Cod were obtained using a Statistical Catch-at-Age model as part of the stock assessment to year 2023.The yearly estimates presented come from Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) simulations. The yearly median estimates are provided, along with uncertainty estimates (2.5th, 25th, 75th and 97.5th percentiles). The values are in thousands of tons of spawning stock biomass. The Department of National Defence has designated Firing Practice and Exercise Areas off the coasts of Canada. Activities in these areas may include bombing practice from aircraft, air-to-air, air-to-sea or ground firing, and anti-aircraft firing, etc. In Atlantic Canada, the Nova Scotia Area includes sea area employments for sub-surface operations and firing exercises (FIREX). The Gulf of St. Lawrence Area, excluding the French territorial waters of Saint-Pierre et Miquelon, includes sea area employments for sub-surface operations and underwater demolition training. PURPOSE: Adult salmon logbook data are collected annually from volunteer anglers on the Margaree River. These data are used as an input to the current model for predicting abundance of large and small salmon returns each season in the Margaree River (Breau and Chaput 2012). Logbook data used in the model come from in-season fishing. However, the dataset provided also includes early out-of-season fishing that was conducted by volunteer anglers under a scientific license issued by DFO. This early out-of-season early fishing began in 2015 as a pilot project and ran until 2023. The NAFO Convention does not indicate which datum should be used for spatial representation. The datum used at the time of development of the NAFO Convention would have been North American Datum 1927 (NAD27). In addition, “NA" indicates that data are unavailable because they are either incomplete or withheld; contact the custodian for more information. For the "Region" column specifically, "NA" indicates that the location is outside stock assessment region boundaries. There are a few caveats to consider when interpreting Pacific Herring spawn index data, which are discussed in the technical report (see supporting documents).
