The Plains, Northern, Foothills Boundary feature class contains polygon features representing Department of Energy Regional Boundaries for the Province of Alberta. The Alberta Regional Boundaries divide Alberta into the Plains Region, Northern Region, and Foothills Region, for administration of Petroleum and Natural Gas Licences. A petroleum and natural gas licence is issued for an initial term of two years if it is located in the Plains Region, four years in the Northern Region, and five years in the Foothills Region.

This dataset represents the location of the North American Central Plains conductivity anomaly of the Province of Saskatchewan.This dataset represents the location of the North American Central Plains conductivity anomaly of the Province of Saskatchewan. The data was created as a file geodatabase feature class and output for public distribution. **Please Note – All published Saskatchewan Geological Survey datasets, including those available through the Saskatchewan Mining and Petroleum GeoAtlas, are sourced from the Enterprise GIS Data Warehouse.  They are therefore identical and share the same refresh schedule. 

The dataset includes subsurface stratigraphic picks of the tops of the Horseshoe Canyon/Wapiti and Battle formations in the west-central Alberta Plains (Townships 15 to 67, Ranges 16W4 to 3W6) made from wireline geophysical well logs. The dataset supplements Alberta Geological Survey Open File Report 2011-08, which describes the methodology. We screened the well data to detect errors resulting from deviated wells, as well as incorrect well-header ground and kelly bushing elevation data. Statistical methods identified local and regional statistical outliers, which were examined individually.

This layer comprises all the available water wells in GIN (Yukon, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador) and published through the open data platforms. This layer is a combination of all individual provincial and territorial layers. The original databases are dynamically converted by an automatic process managed by Natural Resources Canada (Groundwater Information Network).
