The dataset represents known concentration areas of harvested or unharvested Softshell clam (Mya arenaria) in the intertidal zone of the Estuary and the Gulf of St. Lawrence, Quebec region. The dataset was created for the National environmental emergencies centre (NEEC) for preparation and response in case of an oil spill. Concentration areas were defined using Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) inventories conducted between 2000 and 2020.This layer is dependent on the inventories carried out and thus only represents known clam areas. For example, for the Haute-Côte-Nord, inventories have been limited to areas open to harvesting (with the exception of 4 sectors), but it is known that the Softshell clam is also present outside these areas. In addition, little information was available for the Moyenne and Basse-Côte-Nord.This data layer does not represent the general distribution of the species nor the extent to which fishing is allowed. The extent of shellfish beds may vary over time in response to, among others harvesting and the recruitment rates. The boundaries of polygons from inventory data may be underestimated relative to the actual size of the deposit since the inventories were conducted at the location where the resource is most abundant, without necessarily sampling the entire bed. Past wind directions are mapped from stabilized sand dunes in Canada and the northern United States. The map shows the near-surface wind directions responsible for transporting sand when the dunes were active. The directions were mapped by interpreting the orientation of parabolic dunes from open-sourced Lidar (light detection and ranging) derived digital terrain models. The map also shows new dune areas that add to the existing knowledge of dune fields in North America. The interpreted wind directions provide insight into the past atmospheric circulation patterns that occurred during the deglaciation of North America and the transition to modern circulation patterns that occur today.

The North America Surface Water Values point dataset contains the current water level and stream flow values as recorded by Canadian and USA hydrometric gauging station locations. Daily values are recorded as well as comparisons with historical measurements, including difference in values from the previous day, the mean level for that calendar date, the annual mean water level, and maximum and minumum recorded levels. In the southern Gulf of St. Lawrence, these bottom trawl surveys has been carrying out each September since 1971. Spatial distribution of the Winter Skate relative occurrence based on the annual Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) groundfish research surveys realised between 2004 and 2010.The probability of catching a Winter Skate in a set and within a cell (relative occurrence) was calculated as the ratio of the number of sets in which a species was recorded and the total number of sets made.
