GeoAI - GeoBase Series
GeoAI are buildings, hydrography, forests, and roads automatically extracted using Deep Learning models applied to a source dataset, typically aerial or satellite images. The primary aim of GeoAI is to increase Canada's availability of high-resolution foundational geospatial data for both spatial and temporal coverage.The infrastructure and expertise put in place by NRCan enables a rapid, efficient, and scalable data creation process through the use of leading-edge technology and Artificial Intelligence models. Published datasets for a given source can be revisited at a later date as more accurate models are developed and put into production. For now, only static files are available, but as the series develops, new products and services will be added.
Quebec building reference system
The Quebec building reference system consists of a continuous layer, created from a bird's eye view and presented in the form of vector polygons. This work is part of the effort to provide Quebec with a rich and comprehensive database that brings together information related to the built environment. It is the result of collaborative work between the Center for Research in Geospatial Data and Intelligence at Laval University, the municipal sector, Natural Resources Canada and Quebec ministries and agencies.This data set integrates geometries from various partnerships and produced using artificial intelligence and automated extraction algorithms. The geographic coverage corresponds to the information available when it was published and will be extended according to the availability of new data. This release incorporates NC-0 and NC-1 data corresponding to the following descriptions:* NC-0: Raw vector geometries, from various sources, without quality control performed;* NC-1: Geometries validated manually (adjustments, additions, deletions).\ * _Each level of completeness (NC) characterizes the level of editing work, validation, and descriptive content of the dataset. The Automatic Identification System (AIS) is a global, satellite-based and terrestrial-based ship tracking system that uses shipborne equipment to remotely track vessel identification and positional information and is typically required on vessels of 300 gross tonnage or more on an international voyage, of 500 gross tonnage or more not on an international voyage, and passenger ships of all sizes. AIS tracking technologies are primarily used in support of real-time maritime domain awareness and for maritime security and safety of life at sea. This report describes a geographic information system (GIS) analysis of 2019 AIS data to produce yearly and monthly vessel density maps of all vessel classes combined and yearly density maps of each vessel class. The year 2019 was selected to portray shipping densities in a pre-COVID 19 pandemic depiction of the maritime transport sector in the Northwest Atlantic. Vessel density map applications include use in spatial analysis and decision support for marine spatial planning. In 2023 the process was applied to the years 2013 through to 2022 and were made available using the same processes that were applied to the original 2019 datasets.
