The Aboriginal Lands of Canada Legislative Boundaries web service includes legislative boundaries of Indian Reserves, Land Claim Settlement Lands (lands created under Comprehensive Land Claims Process that do not or will not have Indian Reserve status under the Indian Act) and Indian Lands. More specifically it includes the following lands: 1) Indian Reserves that include: 1.1) surrendered lands or a reserve, as defined in the Indian Act (this definition excludes Indian Settlements and Indian Communities); and 1.2) Sechelt lands, as defined in the Sechelt Indian Band Self-Government Act, chapter 27 of the Statutes of Canada, 1986; 2) Land Claim Settlement Lands that include: 2.1) Category IA land or Category IA-N land, as defined in the Cree-Naskapi (of Quebec) Act, chapter 18 of the Statutes of Canada, 1984 (category 1B and category II Lands are excluded from this definition); 2.2) Settlement land, as defined in the Yukon First Nations Self-Government Act, and lands in which an interest is transferred or recognized under section 21 of that Act (only Yukon First Nations Settlement Lands, which were surveyed and the survey plan recorded, are included in the map service); 2.3) Inuit Owned Lands as defined in the Agreement between the Inuit of the Nunavut Settlement Area and Her Majesty the Queen in Right of Canada given effect and declared valid by the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement Act (it includes all parcels that have been surveyed and those that do not require a survey (this includes the islands)); 2.4) Gwich’in Lands as defined in the Gwich’in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement, given effect and declared valid by the Gwich’in Land Claim Settlement Act; 2.5) Inuvialuit Lands as defined in the Western Arctic (Inuvialuit) Claims Settlement Act; 2.6) Sahtu Lands as defined in The Sahtu Dene and Métis Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement given effect and declared valid by the Sahtu Dene and Métis Land Claim Settlement Act; and 2.7) Tlicho lands, as defined in the Tlicho Agreement, given effect and declared valid by the Tlicho Land Claims and Self-Government Act; 3) Indian Lands that include: 3.1) Lands in the Kanesatake Mohawk interim land base, as defined in the Kanesatake Mohawk Interim Land Base Governance Act, other than the lands known as Doncaster Reserve No. 17.The data available for download is the former Geobase-Aboriginal Lands product. There are some attribute differences between the data available for download and the web service; however both contain the same underlying data. Please refer to the Supporting Documents for additional information on the Geobase - Aboriginal Lands dataset. Work is under way to align these two data products.

The Metis Settlement is a dataset comprised of all the polygons that represent Metis Settlements lands in Alberta. Metis Settlements are lands set apart by provincial legislation for the use and benefit of the members of the eight Metis Settlements in Alberta. The legal title of these lands rests with the Metis Settlements General Council, a legislated-body that holds the fee simple interest on all Metis settlement lands, equivalent to full ownership of the land, with certain limited rights reserved for the Crown. The provincial government has primary jurisdiction over these lands and the people living on them.

The Lands Officer Region dataset is comprised of all the polygons that represent the Forestry and Parks Lands Officer Regions within the Province of Alberta.

This dataset contains all the unsurveyed Yukon First Nations Interim Protected Lands. Represents the gross area boundary within which Saskatchewan Crown resource lands are designated as provincial forests.For the entire Canwood, Nisbet, Fort a la Corne, Torch River, and Porcupine Provincial Forests, and the southern portion of the Northern Provincial Forest, boundaries follow the textual descriptions found in The Forest Resources Management Regulations, F-19.1 Reg 1, amended June 2020. For the northern, eastern and western portions of the Northern Provincial Forest, boundaries were sourced from the SaskGIS Provincial Boundary data set (ADMINISTRATIVE.provincial_boundary) produced by Information Services Corporation. This data set depicts the provincial boundary of the province of Saskatchewan as reflected in the respective jurisdictional boundary acts, and is kept current on a monthly basis. The version used here has an effective date of 31 May 2020. Crown resource lands contained within these boundaries are designated as provincial forest. Surveyed Cadastral Framework for Yukon First Nations Settlement Lands and Tetlit Gwich'in Yukon Lands (settlement like) of the First Nations that have ratified their agreements. Settlement land is land identified in a First Nation's land claim agreement as settlement land of the first nation. There are three types of Settlement Land that a Yukon First Nation can own and manage: Category A: ownership of surface and subsurface; Category B: ownership of the surface only; Fee Simple (FS): private ownership. Note: Some surveys for Settlement Lands identified in their agreement are not yet complete therefore there may be parcels identified with the same land claim selection ID. The dataset includes the Grand Rapids Forebay (GRF) agreements for the Northern Affairs communities of Moose Lake and Easterville, plus recently added Cross Lake Community and Norway House Community Settlement lands. The agreements provide for lands to be held by permit and/or certificate of title in the name of a community corporation, or set aside for traditional use. Best efforts have been made to reasonably represent the parcels within the dataset as set out in the respective agreements. The Forest Resources Management Act The Forest Resources Management Regulations The provincial forest boundary is described by clauses and subclauses in The Forest Resources Management Regulations. Each provincial forest boundary description clause and subclause has a corresponding line feature in FORESTRY.PLANNING_Forest_Boundary. Clause descriptions position provincial forest boundary line features according to Saskatchewan’s Land Survey System by Township, Range, and Meridian. Subclause descriptions further positions provincial forest boundary line features within the clause. When a subclause describes the provincial forest boundary according to a water body or water course bank, line features are digitized from the Saskatchewan Geospatial Imagery Collaborative 2016 three-band (red, green, blue) SPOT 6 and 7 satellite imagery mosaic, pan-sharpened to 1.5 m resolution (IMAGERY.SGIC_SPOT_RGB_2016_Ref). In certain situation, applying this satellite imagery to the provincial forest boundary description results in a gap between land and water. In such cases, in order to maintain a contiguous boundary, a new line feature is created that has no corresponding clause and subclause in The Forest Resources Management Regulations. These “Land to Water Gap” features are identified as such in the SUBCLAUSE_DESCR field. When a subclause describes the provincial forest boundary according to the Saskatchewan Land Survey System, line features are extracted from Information Services Corporation CADASTRE data (CADASTRE.SG_SECTION, .SG_QUARTERSECTION, .SG_LEGALSUBDIVISION, .surface, .boundary, .right_of_way). By convention, the west boundary of a line feature is defined by the vector west of the road allowance and the south boundary of a line feature is defined by the vector south of the road allowance. In certain situation, applying this convention to the provincial forest boundary description results in a gap created by an adjacent east or north road allowance. In such cases, in order to maintain a contiguous boundary, a new line feature is created that has no corresponding clause and subclause in The Forest Resources Management Regulations. These “Road Allowance Gap” features are identified as such in the SUBCLAUSE_DESCR field. In spite of west / south boundary road allowance convention, when a road allowance forms the boundary of the provincial forest, in FORESTRY.PLANNING_Forest_Boundary, the line feature is drawn such that the road allowance is excluded from the provincial forest.

This polygon dataset shows Crown land selections by First Nations as outlined by the Treaty Land Entitlement (TLE) Agreements in Manitoba, pursuant to the Crown Lands Act 5(1)(d).The purpose of this dataset is to show Crown land selection boundaries and information as outlined by the Treaty Land Entitlement (TLE) Agreements in Manitoba, pursuant to the Crown Lands Act 5(1)(d). This is a dynamic dataset — data can change daily.Site selections are generally identified and submitted on hard copy 1:50,000 National Topographic System (NTS) maps by the applicable First Nations. Selections are digitized using, where possible, 1:50,000 NTS map sheet base mapping, satellite or aerial imagery in the background. The method used is dependent on the location of the selection and the availability of digital base mapping in the area.
